Gremlins
 

This might be a stupid question for some, but is Gremlins considered a horror movie??? I always thought it was a horror-comedy, but is it even horror at all?

One of it's many genres is "Horror" so yeah it's considered a Horror film.
The last half of the film is pretty intense IMO, and is not comedic at all.

how is gremlins not comedic. i really don't see how it classifies it as horror i see it as being in there w/ movies like disney for the family. i even seen at stores the movie willow is under the childrens movies but to me i would think of it as a action movie or fnatasy not a childrens movie. to me gemlins is more of a childrens movie then horror

I meant the end when Stripe goes Balistic on Billy.

The rest is comedic but not the last battle.

That IMO is a horror spoof along the lines of Saturday The 14th and a Looney Tunes Cartoon.

Director Joe Dante is a huge Looney Tunes fan and he wanted that film to resemble a Looney Tunes cartoon.

Damn, Dante just directed The Awful Looney Tunes Back In Action.lol.

same here otis lol. its on sci fi. i love gremlins 2. i like it more then the 1st one

O no doubt, 2 is far superior and much more fast paced.
Plus it has a gazillion in-jokes which makes it fantastic.

I still consider them in the horror genre though.
Albeit mixed with a few other genres as well.

IMDB and other movie sites list them as "Horror" Comedy" Action"
"Suspense".

I think movie critics would lable anything that has gremlins like the ones in the movie as horror.

Don't get me wrong, there are gremlins in children's movies, but they don't look the same, for obvious reasons :P

It's not straight out Horror but like I said the ending is quite intense and Violent.

Horror/comedy, both are great IMO.

Gremlins 2 rocked. I love when all of them begin drinking the "potions" and start mutating. Who ever thought there would be a gremlin that talked like Tony Randal and sang Sinatra? '


I allso always liked that even as mogwai, they had more individual personalities in 2

The director says on the commentary of the DVD that he meant it to be a comedy, but a lot of people passed it off as horror since a lot of the evil Gremlins were scary.

The second one was definately comedy.

I was thinking the 2nd was more of a comedy too. I can't deside which is better. I like the gargolye looking gremlin and the lightning gremlin in the 2nd. But, i love stripe in the 1st. He throws saw blades at billy, you got to love him.

Yea i was watching it last night on sci-fi.

I don't like the second one, I've seen it way to many times, so I'm pretty much bored with it.

I love the first one though.

i love the second one soooo much more, but id consider it horror/comedy much in the same vain as beetlejuice.

I hated Beetlejuice or however you spell it.

I remember it used to come on comedy central like...6 times a day. I can't stand it anymore.

I got paid to take this brat i babysat to that piece of crap. 15 minutes into the movie, he drops his fucking drink, and rather than sayin "oops" or "sorry", the little shit said "give me yours"


I told him to be more careful next time he got a drink. I bet being thirsty through the movie may have hurt his enjoyment... oh darn........

Having to watch that piece of monkey shit was pain enough for me......

You hate beetlejuice??? I just cant understand it, really i mean whats to hate? Micheal keaton owns, and the baldwin isnt that bad, geena davis is pretty good, and OMG wynona rider is uber hot in this one. Its all about that red dress at the end. It does have a killer soundtrack too, you stumped me evis....

Gremlins is classed as a Horror-comedy as well as such things as Scream. Gremlins was marketed originally as a kids flick which caused some great controversy in the UK as all these kids toys were sold for the movie and sticker books and jnr novels and comics but when the movie was released it was a 15 certificate and kids couldn't go! Part two is 100% comedy.

GREMLINS

I watched this movie as a kid and has loved it since after I watched this movie I wanted a mogwai even thought they didnt exist I remember renting this from a local video shop and after that I went on to buying it. My favourite character in the film is Stripe for those of you who dont know who he is I will attach a photo of him at the bottom of the page he is a evil mogwai and makes me laugh. The first Gremlins was a great movie my favourite scene was at the bar when all those evil mogwais took over and I loved the cinema scene when they where watching Snow White. The second movie was also great but not as good as the original the gremlins got bigger in this movie and was scarier well scary when I was young. now going on to rate the movies out of 10 both movies was brilliant here are the rating I give the movies.

Gremlins (9/10)
Gremlins 2 (8/10)

I enjoyed Critters even more.

Critters was a cool movie but for me doesnt come near Gremlins.

I thought Critters 2 was funnier. probably not as good overall as the original though.

I did enjoy the Critters series except for the last one.

I remember seeing this movie as a kid and I have always loved Gizmo..he is soooo adorable! This movie is a really great ol' horror flick that I could watch again and again!

Same here it a brilliant film.

If Gremlins is to be listed as a horror. Then you may as well add Ben10 and scooby doo to the list as well
