So, I can't believe I'm going to bring this up in a horror forum, but...
I'm losing my hair. I'm 20 years old, and I've got too much shit on my mind to have this additional stresser, but I do. No one I can think of on either side of my family has MPHL, but that's definately what this is shaping up to be.
Like I said, too much fucking shit on my plate to have to start dealing with this this early, but hey, that's life... Does anyone on here who has also had to deal with this have any suggestions? Does Rogaine or Propecia work? Here goes my rep... :) |
Shave your head, accept fate gracefully.
Thats what I'm doing. Of course, I'm 32 so its a bit less of a shock... |
Yeah, I was hoping to get out of college before having to do something like that.
|
Please go see a doctor first.
To rule out anything serious, get some bloodwork done. It could be something as simple as a vitamin deficiency though. |
that sucks.
what kind of hair style do you have? |
This looks like a job for

Also keep this in mind: stress is also a big factor. You said I thin at least 3 times you "have a lot on your plate." There are numerous ways stress can effect your health: -Physically ( Hair color change (usually natural to gray), shedding/receeding, heavy bags under eyes, some people gain weight--(they overeat when stressed or loose) (they undereat when stressed) Mentally & Socially (Paranoia, hallucinations, Severe Migrains--watch these see a doctor ASAP unchecked migrains can lead to Aneirisms-trust me--personal experience, lost in contact with close friends, poor relationships, etc. Again, I'm not a doc. I have no PHD. I'm no psychologist. But because I have a brother who has a mental disorder, and various family members and friends with health issues, I sometimes read the medical books my mom has in the house--like I said in my intro--I try to be as well-rounded as I can. |
Shit...that's unfortunate dude.
I'll echo everyone else - if you don't have history in your family of stuff like this, you should get yourself checked out for sure. Best of luck, my friend. |
Yeah, I've been once, a couple weeks ago, and she recommended Propecia, but she's just the university doctor and didn't really do any thorough exams. I'd like to get some blood tests and what not.
Otherwise I'll wear it like Flayed says (bastard!). |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
 :p |
I think most of those medicines (Propecia, Rogaine, etc.) require that you take them for the rest of your life, don't they?

Anything that you become dependent on is not worth it.

This is what happens when you have the movie tastes of a 50 year old. :D

Anyway, I'll take the Doyle hat and pick my feet in Poughkeepsie- thank newb. |
Well. It could be a number of things. If you're really concerned you could just pm me and I could give you the run down. Since i'm now the hypochondriac doctor.
|
Whoa! Not you of all people, Kev!!
This is bad, bud. You better take the advice of a proper specialist of this field and go ahead with what he says. Losing hair isnt half as bad if its in the early stages, and I am sure specialists have better remedies for it in hand than making you pop in pills for the rest of your life. And also, stop sweating the small things in life. It will make things a wee bit easier to get through. :) |
Could be stress like everyone said, or undereating. I know than when I get stressed I under eat, and when I don't eat I lose hair by the handful. I feel for you though. When I woke up to find my pillow covered in hair I freaked out pretty good.
|
like someone else said - just shave your head ... christ everyone is doing it these days.
your friends and family will be freaked out by it for about 2 days - after which it will become the norm. |
I lost a ton of hair to stress and the fact that I bleached it for dying purposes and have very fine hair to begin with, but it started to grow back when I started exercising and um...girlfriending...more and upped my testosterone level. You might just need to destress and start taking runs and working out more often.
|
That sucks, though I wouldn't suggest doing something as drastic as shaving your head because then you have to shave it every day and that's way more time consuming than putting rogaine on it.
Also, you might really want to check the diet thing since nobody else in your family has this. I would take a multivitamin, especially if you eating college food. yuck. I would also check into an herbal supplement called Saw Palmetto Extract, one of my coworkers swears this is the best thing to take for men and stopped his hair loss. You can buy it in the grocery store or target with the rest of the vitamins. At any rate, it's not the end of the world. I found my first gray hair when I was 20 and I about lost it at the time, but I've come to terms with it now (premature graying is genetic for me, so I was screwed) and just dye it. Just date girls shorter than you and they won't notice. :p |
Bald is sexy!!:DNo worries!!

The hottest guy that I've been with to date had a thinning hair line (and he was 20/21). Not to mention - My current boyfriend... I met him when he was Bic'ing his head on a regular basis (TOTALLY bald) and I've always thought that he was gorgeous. Since then, he's been growing out his hair, and he looks amazing (receding hairline and bald spot and all!). Seriously - You can pull it off AND be sexy. You just have to OWN it. :D |

Maybe try and find some "2nd Chance" shampoo. It won't make it miraculously grow back, but it can slow down it's loss.
|
I remember a couple years ago my hair started to fall out.I went to a salon and the advice i got worked. They said to wash my hair in cool water instead of warm water,it can actually cause that to happen. They also said that its normal to lose hair and that you get new hair to replace it.In your case it may be different,my hair is fine now and i never had bald spots or anything.I just remembered this and thought it might help in some way.
Just remember that bald is sexy and it might be a good look for you:) |
Oh.i almost forgot, massage your scalp for 20 minutes a day.It helps circulate blood to your scalp and it can help your hair to grow.It might keep it from falling out too.
