Another piece of Fresh Meat

Hey everyone. I'm new here. I was referred to this site from Dante'sInferno. My name's Shannon. I'm from Baltimore, Maryland; however I'm in Staunton, VA at the moment for college. It appears as if I'm double majoring in English and Political Science, with double minors in Creative Writing and US foreign Policy (Don't quote me on that but that just seems the way things are going). My favorite color is blue. I listen to all genres of music, although most of what I listen to is Hip Hop & RnB (this does not mean that's all I like--it's just what I grew up on most of life because of regional demographics--well besides old school motown because of my parents. I love wrestling. I love reading, acting, and writing. I'm a huge fan of rhyme and alliteration. As you can imagine I'm very detailed. I didn't really know how much to post, but if this was an introducing post, I'd figure I'd go all out. Might as well, right? I'm a sagittarius--my birthday's December 18, until then I'm still 17. I love politics, hope all of you guys are registered to vote because I can't.

I'm a liberal--Loud and proud I am a democrat for life. For any other democrats out there I hope you guys will Barrack and Roll on November 4th. Any republicans out there although I disagree with your beliefs I respect you. And any undecided folks, hopefully by Nov. 4th you will convert to an Obamacan. I've been told numerous times that I am a great speaker (not that I am conceited or anything, it was a compliment) I did forensics (Speech and Debate) all throughout highschool--which would explain the previous comment. Enough on the personal tangents, anything else I forgot to mention I'm sure you'll here it later.

My favorite horror movies are Leprechaun, A nightmare on Elm Street (& anything else with Freddy), and Chucky--hence the user name. Chances are you guys know a hell of a lot more about horror films than me, and I will take no offense of you all "schooling me" on all the good stuff. So feel free. In fact, I encourage you too. I'm all about becoming as versatile as I can get.

Looking forward to get to knowing all of you,
Shannon

And yes Dante has friends. And he'll probably stick around longer than anybody--but I'll try to keep up with him.

Hi, Welcome to the Forum. I joined yesterday. Been a fan a long time but certainly am no expert. If interested check out the HDC top 100 in the general forum. Lots of great movies discussed there.

fortunato 09-28-2008 09:39 AM

welcome welcome.

Hi, I think hitting the quick reply put my reply in the wrong thread. In case you don't come across it, yes, born and raised and hopefully retire in WA.

Depends on who you refer to by "kids". Technically, I still am a "kid." But yes chances are I am familiar with what you are referring to.

urgeok2 09-30-2008 05:35 AM

you mentioned motown - and your parents ..

i'm assuming then you have had proper exposure to real R&B,

aretha, sam cooke, sam and dave, otis redding ....etc ..

i hear what many young people today call R&B and it makes me want to hurl..

Yeah, all that good stuff: The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Spinners, Diana Ross & the Supremes, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas. Yeah, I relate.

However I do listen to the "modern R&B" as well like the Beyonces, Rihannas, Alecia Keys, etc. Those she's probably the only "modern R&B diva" that's still a bit "classic" that would get respect from the "old school" artists--because like many of them she writes lyrics, music and composes herself.

But yeah, when it comes to music, some of my older acquaintences "35 and over" say I was "born before my time." They're shocked at times, how much I know about what was "the heart of music" back then.

we're providing the same musical exposure to our kid as well.

his main criteria for music is being able to make out the lyrics.
if he can sing along - he likes it - no matter what the style.

Yeah, my parents had a very "liberal" approach to what kinds of music I listened to. Nothing was "banned" from being listened to. If there was anything that contianed profanity that I got (for example buying a cd that contains "explicit lyrics" as long as it was in my own privacy it was allowed. But I try to broaden my tastes as much as I can. From country to pop, r&b to gospel, etc. I realized at a young age, we are all different people that like different things; so I tried to teach myself early how to be able to "adapt and adjust" with different styles and different people. I'm all about trying to be as versatile of a person as I can get.

apparently so ..

being a young black woman already sets you way outside the average demographic for horror movie fans- which i believe is still young white males between their mid teens to mid 20s.

on which case i'm way the hell outside of that demographic as well :)

Well, there's nothing completely wrong with that... Many people find "love" on forums. :)

In the words of Forest Gump's mother:

"Life (forums, in this case) is like a box of Chocolates: You never know what you're gonna' get."

Wow, Cougar! I somehow missed this thread when I came here. I didn't know you were only 17. My son just turned 20 and he, too, is a very good writer. I'm embarrassed that I assumed you were a man. :o I think I saw a picture in one of your posts which was of a man. Sorry.

Um....was that the one you see now...with Obama holding Chucky? Oh yeah and on the age then, I get that a lot. Most people assume I'm much older than what I am...when they have conservations with me...unless I'm with my own age group, of course. I didn't know you had a son...especially one that's 20...which means you're older than I assumed. I thought you were in the late twenties to early thirties...perhaps I missed that in your thread. No need for the apologies...it's human nature. We all make mistakes. And you can call me Shannon. I created the UN of Leprucky Cougar to blend my favorite horrors: Leprachaun with Chucky=Leprucky; and Cougar came from Freddy Kruger. I thought it was Freddy Cougar that's what it sounds like to me when I hear people say it. But after I already registered as "cougar" and when Dante'sInferno told me it was really "Kruger" I felt like an idiot. I thought cougar sounded cooler anyway. But life goes on...

Shannon

About how many? On HDC, is the male/female ratio about 60/40 % ?

urgeok2 10-06-2008 10:36 AM

probably 90/10 but the female members are a lot noisier so it seems like there's more :)

wow. Hmm...someone sounds a little sexist...or maybe he's intimidated?

Nella 10-06-2008 11:44 AM

Yes, Shannon, that is the pic I was referring to. I didn't recognize him.

I would love to be in my late 20's or early 30's again. I'm 40 now.

You know what I'ved noticed. Men have some ground when they say they "can't figure us out." When we're 12- 18, we want to be older (whether it be because we want to be able to smoke, drink, party, or etc) so we dress older (usually nowadays with girls more so than the 70s when you were growing up), lie to men about ages, etc. Then 20 years later...boom! We hit our 40s and wish we can be that age again. And when we hear girls 15 stressing about "how lame and dull" ther life is and say stuff like "Child I wish I was xy age again..." But I guess we have a right to...all the physical stress we endure if you get my drift.

pinkfloyd45769 10-06-2008 07:59 PM

I'm here for the studs;)
