Actors and Actresses....
Do you feel betrayed when beautiful, likable actor/actress starts portraying really mean, hard to like characters??
Do you start to not like them and are reluctant to watch them again, no matter how beautiful and talented they obviously are? I personally have experienced an intense dislike for several actors because of this, but them again, I am totally shallow about such things and wish to hear many others opinions on this subject. |
nah - i like it when they stretch their wings.
no one make a better villian than someone who normally plays a good guy (gene hackman, Michael Caine) i think they have far more fun doing it and it shows ... same goes for the reverse (Malcolm MacDowell in Time after Time) |
I agree with urge...

Ok, ok.... I did love it when Harvey Keitel was such a complete asshole, that deserved to burn in Hell, in Bad Leiutenant and some others... But there are several actors I am now not even interested in what they are in next...cause their characters have turned me so cold...you know? |

uhhhh no ... sorry :D |

I am actually interested in what other minds are thinking here:cool: |
Well, we're telling you...
I don't judge the person by their roles. The only thing that affects me is if they are such a terrible actor I don't ever want to see them perform again. I wish Steve Martin hadn't done the Pink Panther, but it won't make me stop watching his movies. |
Nova,i'm really bad on this one.For me,its like i really connect with characters or something.Just came to mind,Brad Pitt in Kalifornia,i hated him after that movie.I also start loving an actor because of certain roles they play.Maybe its a woman thing!

i hav trouble when i hear tha t the actor is an asshole in real life - makes me no t like their characters
|
Yeah, that sucks too!! Damn those rich, snobby bastards!!!

John Lithgow is another actor who plays good [Harry & the Hendersons, The World Acording to Garp] and bad [ Cliffhanger, Raising Cain] characters and he is excellent in both.
And I don't pay much attention to their personal life. My brother on the other hand is of the mindset.....if he doesn't like an actor he won't even watch the movie ...such as George C Scott, Nicholas Gage. |

Like I said in the other thread.....zwoti is gonna be busy today.

I typically like it a lot when a normally "nice guy" actor plays a rat bastard. I loved seeing bruce willis in the jackal. Of course, i cant think of any others right now, but i like seeing them do something unusual

I do have a problem with Tom Cruise.
I dislike him as the person he appears to be in real-life (I have no idea obviously what he's like in 'reallife') and I dislike his acting roles. I know some of us do get invested in watching a film emotionally and start to care about the characters...then they start playing the 'bad guy' and it can have an effect. And BTW: I didn't start this thread for people to be an asshole to ME.... so fuck you. I thought it was a valid subject to see what others opinion was. |

Just kidding :D I see what you are getting at, and I know that there are some actors out there that have turned down roles because of their fan base's expectations. I alos know people who think it is inappropriate for an actress who does 1000 nude scenes to suddenly start doing kids movies. I admit knowing things about an actor as a person can impact how i feel about them in a movie. Tom Cruise is an excellent example. he isnt that great an actor, never has been. In his personal life, he is a scientologist, and pretty much in my opinion that makes you a moron and a sheep. It also makes you arrogant because the basic doctrine of scientology is that non scientologists are bareley people. He's smug, self righteous, and in my opinion, deranged. Honestly, the only person who is openly a scientologist that i have even a little respect for is John Travolta, because where Kierstie Alley and Tom Cruise will jam the subject of their religion down your throat, John Travolta has specifically told people to leave alone on the subject of his religion. I can respect that, he doesnt want to discuss it, its his belief system, he treats it as a personal subject, WHICH IT IS. While i may disagree with his beliefs, you have to respect a man who knows his boundaries. |

Some actors can play anything and get away it...their appeal stays the same.
Natalie Portman has been a longtime favorite of mine since she was in The Professional. Then she completely broke type and played a goddess in Closer, which I really liked that she did that. I hated her in The Other Boleyn Girl, and the next role I saw her in My Blueberry Nights. I most likely WILL watch anything she's in, no matter the character, but damn I love her so much when she plays the Good Girl. |
