Pimp Your Pets

I know you got 'em. How 'bout you show 'em to me?

Your pets that is...

...

I FINALLY got some decent pictures of the naked beast... Ripley, my hairless Sphynx kitten. She is now 14 weeks old and a whopping 2.5 pounds:

Incidentally, it has come to my attention today that I am turning into a Crazy Cat Lady at the ripe age of 26.

Noah 07-27-2008 12:21 PM

That's amazing. Nice! :)

Here're my kids, the first is my 5 year old female cat called Skye:

And then there's her brother, my 3 year old cat called Noah:

Your cat has some really amazing eyes, Chrono. They look almost human.

Marty Feldman jumps to mind.

Angra - I think I <3 you.

...

Noah - Your kitties are gorgeous. We should shave the orange one and make a fur coat for mine. It gets cold 'round here come winter.

Noah 07-27-2008 12:29 PM

Thanks ChronoGrl, I need to take her in for a trim eventually anyway. I think your cat could use the extra fur! ;)

ferretchucker 07-27-2008 12:42 PM

I'm not gonna lie Chrono, your Cat reminds me of an old goosebumps episode with an evil, man eating cat-thing.

Your cats look like kittens Noah!

Here are mine. There's Cleo (Short for Cleocatra)

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/babycleo.jpg
http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/ubercleo.jpg
http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/DSCF0563.jpg

And Tigger

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...er/tigger2.jpg
http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...ker/tiggsy.jpg

Tigger came from a rescue home and it's become apparent she...well, to put it bluntly, she's retarded. We reckon something happened in her past and now she's a very scared, very stupid cat. But I still love her. We've had Cleo since she's a kitten. We got her from a family friend. Infact, her mum came from the same litter as My older sister's two cats, and My brother's cat's mum, and my cousin's cat. So they're all related.

Thats me and my little girl Aimee. Found her on a construction site where I was working. She was 3 weeks old and sick.Anyway she is 4 now and still have her ofcourse.

Here are both my cats Aimee the white one is 4 and my little girl. The other I adopted at 6 months old.She was abused we believe petrofied of all people.Me and my girl have had for 18 months and the last 2 or 3 months we can finally lay down adn pet her.Just cant pick her up or try to pet her in certain parts of the apt,she gets nervous. Its a work in progress.

Noah 07-27-2008 12:48 PM

Very nice Ferret, though your 2nd cat Tigger's picture is really dark.... I love cats. Can't really stand dogs, unless they're well behaved and not up in my crotch all the time.

Noah (the brown/black kitty) was a kitten in the pics I posted up there. Skye was about 4 or so when I took those. :)

ChronoGrl: I love your cat, I want one. Maybe one day I can convince my husband.

And my babies....

That doesn't necessarily mean she has been abused. Pets get that way if they haven't been in much contact with humans since birth.

That's funny. I only like dogs that are up your crotch all the time. :p

And, Jenna - Rascal rules. He is TOTALLY telling Cheyenne who's boss. As for getting a Sphynx cat, I can't even express how much I recommend this breed. I definitely have to note that they are high maintenance (they get dirty easily and I find that we're washing her more than once a week), have high metabolisms (so she eats a LOT which can be expensive, especially if you want to stick to premium cat food brands, which I recommend), and are really needy (she's especially a mamma's girl who was weened early, so she wakes me up most morning sucking on my neck). That being said, she LOVES people, is really friendly, and loves to cuddle. She'll follow you around, just enjoying being in the same room you're in. She's a ball of energy when awake and only likes to be pet on her terms, but she's absolutely charming. And from what I read about the breed, they are very good with children and other pets. I am now absolutely in love with this breed and might get another in the near future.

Then again, we've pretty much decided that when we move into a new place, we're getting a Pug (which I am VERY excited about).

Never knew that. I also assumed it and was told that by the lady who iadopted her from. She is missing like 2 or 3 nails in he front paw,so who knows.

The best one is short and sweet. She was chasing her tail (like all cats) but had been doing it a long time. Eventually, as she was moving along, she smashed her face into the wall. I thought she was in pain but fell about laughing when she started staggering around threw her dizziness and bump to the noggin!

Oh, and you know yawns are contagious? My sister yawned and across the room tigger did it.

There are many more.

You'd really want to go through a breeder. Pet store purebreds can come with a sketchy health history... It's expensive (not gonna lie - we paid $1000), but they'll come with papers certifying that they are a purebred Sphynx (I've seen cross-bread Sphynx with furry cats and the result is either a Velour Sphynx, which is quite lovely, or a half-grizzly beast that has odd sprouts of hair - my hair dresser has one and it looks not unlike a half-turned gremlin) and a health guarantee (though our health guarantee is only 6 months, but it's fairly standard).

I went through Wilbur Street Paws:
http://www.pageweb.com/sphynx/

The website is kinda sketchy, but Shelley's really nice and her cats are beautiful.

I actually spent quite some time finding a relatively local breeder; most breeders were either midwest or west coast (I live outside Boston). We actually wound up driving 6 hours to Long Island to pick her up (she slept the whole way back curled up in a fleece blanket on my lap - too adorable).

I started here to browse for breeders by location:
http://www.kittysites.com/breeder_sphynx.shtml

Also, here's a particular breeder's site that I find really helpful and contains all kinds of Sphynx cat information including care, breeds, and kitty products:
http://www.freewebs.com/sleekatscattery/index.htm

Let me know if you have any more questions. I can prattle on and on and on... PM me and I can spare the rest of the thread-readers. ;)

He's tried.....and she lets him THINK he's boss sometimes, but we all know better....;) Rascal is very spirited, and a bit short tempered, and Cheyenne is the sweetest dog I have ever had, or been around, very well behaved, but also....a little goofy....:p I adore them both, really, I can't believe how badly they were treated by other people before we found them (Cheyenne is from a shelter, and Rascal was given to us by people that just didn't seem to give a damn if he lived or died apparently). They both have so much personality, and are so loveable.

Anyway, your kitty sounds wonderful. And since my hubby is allergic to cats, I guess that is the only way I will ever have a cat again.

Fair warning about cat allergies, though (and this is for Chat Noir too)... A lot of people with allergies are allergic to the dander, not the hair itself, so there is the possibility that they could still be allergic to a hairless cat. My boyfriend's allergies act up from time to time.

HOWEVER:

Since its hairless, there's no shedding, so no dander sticking to hair hanging around your house. And, since it will get weekly baths, the dander won't have a chance to build up as much.

Another breed to look into is the Siberian: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberian_(cat)

Though I haven't tested the theory personally, they are said to be hypo-allergenic.
