The Dark Knight

Quite possibly, THE best superhero movie, EVER.

And it has firmly wedged itself in my top 10 of all-time favorite movies. (in the top 5 maybe)

Do yourself a huge favor and watch it.

Today, tonight...whenever.

If you haven't seen this within the next few weeks...you are committing a serious crime.

And I know there are other threads about TDK, so sue me.

Anybody else get assumption I did? The man who figured out Batman's identity, he's a smart fellow. He also has short red hair. And his name was Mr. Reese. Anyone else see what I'm getting at here?

I'm probably just over analyzing.

Here's my review I posted over in the other thread:

I really enjoyed the shit outta this one. This is the first movie I decided to go and see on opening night in over probably 10 year or something like that. What made the whole experience for me that much better, is that there were NO children running around, and no small babies screaming. No distractions at all from the crowd, which is pretty much a fucking first for me, in a theatre... ESPECIALLY on opening night.

Though I must say I much prefer Katie Holmes in the role of Rachel, to Maggie Gyllenhaal. I think Maggie's pretty rough to look at, actually.... It looks like her face is smashed in, and she looks much older than I am sure she is. Just not attractive at all, and her performance wasn't any better or worse than Holmes', I didn't think.

Other than that, am I the only one who thinks that Aaron Eckhart looks almost exactly like Thomas Jane? I SWORE it was Tom Jane playing Two-Face! Boy was I wrong! And whatta great character, and acting job he did as Harvey Dent. I was a bit disappointed with his ultimate demise, I was thinking they'd save him for a 3rd film.

Gary Oldman as the commissioner did a helluva job in this too. Much more prominent in this movie, as compared to Begins, and I really got behind him. Helluva job here.

Also absolutely LOVED Bale once again as Wayne/Batman. FUCK Michael Keaton, FUCK Val Kilm, FUCK George Clooney, FUCK Adam West - Christian Bale OWNS this character IMO. Kick-ass, innovative action scenes, sweet gadgets galore, and great character development.

Heath Ledger's final performance turns out to be his absolute GREATEST one as well. Just ridiculous how this guy transformed himself into this looney, likeable, maniacal, insane, twisted, masochistically gleeful individual. He really made this movie for me.... I was smiling ANY and EVERY time he was on the screen.... When he wasn't on the screen, I was anticipating when I'd next see him. Of course that didn't stop me from enjoying the rest of this film though.

This movie was awful long, but I can't complain. I think this is probably the BEST comic book movie out there... It'd be a toss-up between this, X2, Spider-man 1 and Superman Returns. They're all fucking FANTASTIC in my mind.

If you're not a fanboy, and have been thinking about seeing this.... Just do yourself a favour and do it. I was on the fence about it before today.... But I bought into all the hype, and the movie more than outdid itself in being an immensely enjoyable time at the theatre! :)

So, who else caught the ultra-badass and REALLY well hidden Riddler reference?

I didn't make the connection AT ALL when I watched it. Wow...just wow. As if this movie needed to get any fucking cooler?

Was it the one I posted? If it's something else pass a PM my way.

Check this out. I don't really care about the ratings on IMDb, but this is just cool.

Maybe - point me towards your post.

I'm pretty sure I found it on IMDB myself, but I may have got it from you and not connected. What was yours?

The fourth post in this topic.

ChronoGrl 07-19-2008 05:34 PM

Just came out of it and I have to say I was pretty goddamn impressed.

I thought that it ran a bit long, but other than that... Good GOD Heath Ledger was so ridiculously impressive.

Not to mention...

***possible spoiler***

The Two Face makeup was so ridiculously creepy and well done I was actually upset when he died - I was hoping that he'd make it to the next movie just so that I could see that makeup again... as weird as that sounds.

And I agree... Joker in the nurse's outfit... Priceless. Absolutely priceless.

Posher778 07-19-2008 05:43 PM

So... What was everyone's favorite part?

*Mild spoilers*

Mine was easily, EASILY the "Slaughter is the Best Medicine" scene, with the trucks and transportation.... All leading up to the big *flip* and "HIT ME!"

*end spoiler*

massacre man 07-19-2008 05:46 PM

I liked all of The Joker's scenes.

SPOILERS

I liked Cillian Murphy's part with the imposters.

I also liked when Harvey had the guy tied up. And everything after he got scarred.

My favorite Bruce Wayne scene was when he blocked Reese and Gordon's car and just played it off as trying to beat the light.

Fuck it, I liked the whole movie.

Posher778 07-19-2008 05:58 PM

*spoilllllllerrrrrrrrrrrr*

I honestly liked how the Joker basically won in the end. Not completely, but he got exactly what he wanted, and that's the most fucked up thing about the movie. An Unstoppable Force.

The Mothman 07-19-2008 06:29 PM

is this one, like, waaay better than the previous one with Christian Bale?
I wasnt too huge a fan of that one.

Noah 07-19-2008 06:32 PM

Significantly better Mothman. Batman Begins was damned good.... This one was great. :)

I bet it was a little better than batman begins, the ratings are amplified once by hype and 10x by heath ledgers inability to read labels.

Join me in not caring about this movie.

The Mothman 07-19-2008 06:40 PM

There's been a bombardment of super hero movies lately. Hulk, Iron Man, (both of which were good) now this. I'll see it.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 07-19-2008 06:45 PM

I'm going to see this movie and it better be DAMN GOOD.

Noah 07-19-2008 08:33 PM

Just fuckin' see it.... I thought about waiting till it was on DVD myself. But I said "fuck it" and I wasn't disappointed in changing my mind.

James Whale 07-19-2008 10:13 PM

Hyperbole!

I loved this film. I want to see it again, though. I drank a huge 3 dollar Pepsi and had to pee halfway through it; I didn':) t take a break; so, I didn't enjoy the last half of the movie as much. I didn't want to miss anything!

Despare 07-19-2008 11:17 PM

Great movie for sure, not one of my top movies of all time but still a wonderful watch. Can't believe the wife liked Batman Begins better.

The Joker gets a lot of attention because Ledger did a brilliant job playing him but Oldman and Bale both perform well and there's a lot of moral and political depth to explore. Overall it's a riot but I guess with all this "best movie ever" talk I had a different picture in my head... even though I can't fathom how this one could have been better.

alkytrio666 07-20-2008 05:46 AM

I loved everything about the movie except for one thing.
Am I the only one who think Aaron Eckhart put on a pretty awful performance as Dent?
Every line was forced, his voice was sometimes two octives lower than he can control with reasonability.

Spoilers
And I was actually not impressed with Two Face's make-up; I thought it looked campy and cheap.
Spoilers

Yes.

I hated Batman Begins. I still think that Christian Bale makes a shitty Batman (a good Bruce Wayne, but a shitty Batman), but Heath Ledger truly steals the show. And Gary Oldman's talent wasn't wasted this time. He had a beefier role and was quite good. Also, they got rid of the abysmal Katie Holmes and replaced her with Maggie Gyllenhaal. The role itself is still insipid and poorly written (as most comic book ladies are), but Maggie does a much better job with it.

It still suffers a bit from some poor editing decisions and it runs far, far too long.

However, it's definitely worth seeing in the theater.
