All Right HDC, time to flex your muscle!

Ryan Rotten, excellent horror news journalist of Shock 'Till You Drop recently posted this opn his blog. It seems that internal politics at Lionsgate might rip off us horror fans by dumping Clive Barker's MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN (which is getting raves in previews) straight to DVD.

Please help us give this film the respect and release it deserves!

------------------------------------------

OPEN LETTER TO ALL HORROR FANS:

WE NEED TO START A VIRAL CAMPAIGN TO GET THIS MOVIE A WIDER RELEASE!!!

A very reliable SOURCE from within Lionsgate has told me that the decision to dump Midnight Meat Train in as few as 100 screens and then rush the film to DVD is based purely on INTERNAL POLITICS.

Something along the lines of: the new head honcho does not like the old head honcho so he is deliberately dumping all of his films out of spite and malice.

But there is HOPE. The only thing that overrides backstabbing politics in Hollywood is PURE GREED. It is clearly not healthy for investor relations to dump a movie that has a vocal and dedicated audience. Midnight Meat Train represents the kind of horror film that audiences have been dying for!!!

There is growing internal pressure within the company for a wider release of this film and PUBLIC FAN PRESSURE may help to push this decision over the edge.

If you wish to see MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN in all its big screen glory at a THEATER near you, please do the following:

Cut and paste the message at the bottom of this post and e-mail it to:

1) investor relations at Lionsgate: [email protected]

2) Lionsgate: [email protected]

3) call Lionsgate at (310) 449-9200 and express your desire to see MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN get the release it deserves.

BE POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL! We do not want to piss them off, just want them to know how many fans out there would like to shell out their hard earned cash to see the most groundbreaking horror film of the past ten years in a real movie theater!

4) SEND THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!

WE HAVE WAITED TOO LONG FOR THIS MOVIE TO LET IT GO STRAIGHT TO DVD!!!

Post this message everywhere, send it to your horror friends and spread the word! We need to act FAST to have an effect!!!

And LONG LIVE THE MEAT!!

HERE'S A SAMPLE MESSAGE FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE (or feel free to compose your own):

Dear Lionsgate,

As a long time Clive Barker fan, I am writing you to express my strong desire to see "The Midnight Meat Train" on the big screen.

Rumors are currently circulating that the film will only be released on a limited basis and I am very concerned that I will miss my opportunity to see the most highly anticipated Clive Barker film in over a decade in all of its big screen glory!

There are millions of horror fans like myself who have been disappointed by the recent trend towards watered down PG-13 horror movies. Clive's work represents a return to serious, thought provoking horror movies and with Ryuhei Kitamura at the helm, I am even more excited to experience this collaboration as it was intended: in a packed theater with hundreds of other horror fans like myself!

I urge you to please give this film the release it deserves!

Many thanks!

Okay, I'm off to send my emails!

Roderick Usher 06-17-2008 11:01 AM

Thanks.:)

If we, as a community, don't ask for the good stuff, we'll just be fed the same old crap.

neverending 06-17-2008 11:03 AM

Hey- if MMT gets a good release and good showing at the box office it will help Gaillo find a decent release in the US.

missmacabre 06-17-2008 11:04 AM

does this have a facebook group yet? It should. Petition groups get a lot of members.

GorePhobia 06-17-2008 11:07 AM

I sent the emails and I went to call Lionsgate hoping I would get to leave a message but some dude answered and I wasn't sure what to say exactly so I hung up. LOL

Not necessarily. I'm just a fan trying to get more quality original horror into the theaters. Sure, what's good for the scene is good for me, but I'm really just a fan and a cheerleader here.

neverending 06-17-2008 11:28 AM

I know you weren't being self-serving, but the idea just occured to me.

My apologies if it seemed I implied otherwise.

missmacabre 06-17-2008 11:28 AM

ok so MMT has a fan facebook, so I created a group to get the word out about this. I've already invited some of you but if you have a facebook account and are not on my friends list here's the link. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=15705242267

invite your friends.

no worries - I didn't take offense at all... rarely do:D

GorePhobia 06-17-2008 01:10 PM

I have joined the FaceBook.

Psycom5k 06-17-2008 01:34 PM

I don't have a facebook, but I sent out the emails, now, I can call them, but I don't know what to say, just like gore didn't. Wanna give us some pointers there Sean?

missmacabre 06-17-2008 01:45 PM

it's a simple "I'm calling on behalf of fans of the horror genre to let you know that I think MMT deserves a wider theatrical release." Anything along those lines. The people probably won't ask you too many questions or anything.

gotcha, I'm gonna call them in a little bit

Disease 06-17-2008 02:07 PM

I'll call them from work tomorrow.. hu hu ha...

roshiq 06-18-2008 12:53 AM

Though whatever type of release it gets at the end...I know it will never able to hit our local theaters at anytime.:( Thus, as a horror movie addict living in Bangladesh I supposed to eagerly wish for the worldwide dvd release as early as it can get. But as a true horror movie freak and for the shake of my all true horror movie loving friends I have already sent two e-mails at the mentioned e-mail IDs.

Thanks sean to figuring out the matter and inviting us for this great cause.

Just so you know MM...you weren't the first to make a group.

I joined yours as well (of course!), but this one is bigger:

I've never been into any of those sites like myspace or facebook. Just found them boring.

Elvis_Christ 06-19-2008 07:28 AM

Wow this is one of the world's biggest problems right now. I'm so signing to make such a great impact on the world.

GorePhobia 06-19-2008 12:52 PM

No need for sarcasm Elvis.

I am glad we made an impact!

Funny how I went through every MMT related group and checked. there were just jokes about "riding the midnight meat train". My group was seriously first but this guy seems to have connections. Whatever. He can be a copy cat as long as the word is getting out.

that kinda ticks me off though but whatever.

James Whale 07-16-2008 06:49 PM

What if it sucks?

Your sense of humor is your greatest asset; taking yourself too seriously is a sign of weakness; I hope it's not some boring torture porn fecal matter. I like Clive Barker's short stories; however, his movies are very uneven. HELLRAISER is a good idea for a film. The film itself is a goofy mess. On the other hand,NIGHTBREED and LORD OF ILLUSIONS are both decent. I want this film to be great, but I can't support something I know so little about. Film studios want to make money. Making money is a great thing; they thought this film would not make money for whatever reason. I truly hope this film makes money unless it's some unimaginative HOSTEL type of film. Watching people being tortured is really boring.
