Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth

As some of you may know, my all time favorite film is Jurassic Park. Because it has been since the day I saw it (and it's one of the first films I remember seeing) I've near enough always been interested in Dinosaurs, and pretty much all Mesozoic creatures.

So, anyway, I just wondered if any of you are interested in the subject and just wanna know some of your favorite Mesozoic creatures.

For me, my favourite is the gentle giant -

Brachiosaurus

But I think perhaps a lot more interesting is the -

Troodon (Stenonychosaurus)

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...x-Troodont.jpg

This incredibly intelligent creature is more than just any old lizard, for it is speculated that, due to it's intelligence, had it survived the catastrophic event that wiped out the dinosaurs, it would have evolved. But not evolved into just anything, no, it is thought it would have evolved into what has been dubbed the-

Dinosauroid

A humanoid creature that could quite possibly have dominated the earth as we have. But anyway, your turn.

It's past your bedtime...you know the rules...if you goof around, there's no snack OR storytime!
How many times have I said this?

Jurrassic park was one of the highlights of my senior year (a distant third to my first kiss and seeing real boobs for the first time :D), but i have been a dino nut since i could read (4 years old)

i actually gave serious thought to paleontology as a carreer, but i didnt go to college, and i dont quite have the patience.

my favorite for the longest time was deinonychus:

it was discovered before velociraptor, and it was a lot bigger (10 feet long, as opposed to raptor's 6 ')

I always liked the flying and swimming reptiles, and was disappointed to find out they were actually dinosaurs. they are still cool though.

I am not a big fan of dinosaurs but if I had a favourite one it would be T.Rex

i completely agree. of course, that goes for now too. i would rather be chased by a wolf than a shark any day.

Mr. Grady 06-05-2008 09:11 AM

I would go with those water critters as my faves, too...

I was actually gonna post a pic of him in the sea creatures thread but got distracted.

Deinonychus was actually called velociraptor by some scientists at the time the Crichton wrote Jurassic Park, and so his raptors are actually deinonychus. It's now been revealed that deinonychus weren't any relation to the raptors. But oh well!

I always loved Triceratops. Something about the fact that even though they're not natural killers, they can still kill some of the greatest dinosaurs on earth.

Roderick Usher 06-05-2008 10:13 AM

Don't you all know that Dinosaurs are just a myth created by liberal god-hating scientists in order to undermine the accuracy and authority of the Bible?

Everyone knows that the bones being dug up are just the remains of dragons slain by knights during the middle ages.

Sheesh

where did you hear that? they are both in the family Dromaeosauridae, which means they are related...

ferretchucker 06-05-2008 11:57 AM

fuck you wikipedia!!!!!!!!!!

I think it meant was that deinonychus was not a member of the velociraptor family.

they are related, in much the same way humans chimps and gorillas are related. raptors arent deinonychus, and deinonychus arent velociraptors, but they are both dromaeosaurs.

ferretchucker 06-05-2008 12:29 PM

Yeh what I meant was though they have a connection, the velociraptors in the film and book are actually deinonychus because deinonychus were called velociraptors by some scientists, because they thought they were a type of velociraptor, and though both are dromaeosaurus, like you said, deinonychus are not a type of velociraptor. I got it slightly wrong but I knew what I meant, and you pretty much worded it exactly how I should have done.

Vodstok 06-05-2008 04:12 PM

exactly, the deinonychus is consistent in size with the the raptors in the movies, the real raptors were apprently the size of a turkey, which is a lot less scary.

but raptor sounds cooler. "deiny" would sound stupid.

ferretchucker 06-07-2008 01:19 AM

very true. I suppose one could say that due to the cloning process used in the movie, the raptors may have mutated.
