What do you drive?

Inspired by the recent acquisition of a new car by our very own MD (who is probably busy playing GTA in real life with it in her hometown right now)...

So yeah...what do you drive? And how good of a troubleshooting mechanic are you?

I have my own 4x4. I can do the changing of tyres during a puncture and the basic oiling, greasing, battery-charging and stuff. But ask me to fine-tune an engine or repair a zonked-out car, and I am completely clueless. :o

Long trips? Yeah, sometimes. If I am confident enough that the car wont break down, or if there are good garages nearby on the route I will be taking. But umm yeah...I m what they ll call a very BASIC driver.

neverending 05-20-2008 10:11 AM

I drive a seat on bus.

hammerfan 05-20-2008 10:11 AM

I drive a 2001 Toyota Echo. Can't do any troubleshooting at all. Depends on what you mean by long trips. I've driven to upstate New York (about 6 hours).

Nice car.

Yeah 6-7 hour trips would be pretty long. I d need at least 2-3 breaks in-between...just to get the legs stretched and the back straightened out.

Do you feel any sort of fatigue after a 6 hr driving trip? I sure do.

manco hornet 49cc scooter

illdojo 05-20-2008 10:20 AM

97 Toyota Corolla with 147k miles. It now needs new struts from all the fucking pot holes left by the winter.

neverending 05-20-2008 10:21 AM

I have owned vehicles in the past, and indeed enjoyed driving long distances- by that I mean trips that take days. I even wrote a play about it, which can be found here, if you have any desire:

I love my little car! It gets about 40 mpg highway. I just filled up this morning - it cost me $31.00, but it'll last about 2 weeks, barring any long trips.

Oh, I definitely make pit-stops when I do long drives. My back wouldn't be able to take it if I drove straight through. Yes, I definitely suffer fatigue after driving that long. Usually when I get to my destination, that's it I'm staying put until the next day. And I usually fall asleep on the couch (when I go to upstate New York, I go to visit my uncle).

dont you haters be jealous.

i dont do any work on this thing because it's under warranty.

back in the day i changed my own brakes, muffler, crap like that ....

not now .. dont have the time and it would void the warranty anyway

OOOh where did you drive to? Cause thats where I live, I think Zero lives up here too.

urgeok2 05-20-2008 10:37 AM

if you gotsta have a family,
you gotsta get a dadilac.

i joke about it a lot but i'm not ashamed to admit that i really do like it.
i can carry a lot of people - or junk (the seats fold into the floor)
the acoustics are great for blasting music.
and its the only vehicle i've ever owned where my knees didnt end up around my eyes while i'm driving.

it was the leg room that ultimately sold me on it.

(thats not my house by the way - i dont live in california ... but that is the colour of my van)

Comfort is primo uno when getting a car.

I chose my 4x4 truck because it has LOADS of space. And it looks killer on-road. Besides it can always double up for extra people and camping trips. To top it all off, the mileage is awesome.

The only thing which makes me mad are scratches. Every time one of those leaves a mark on it, I swear I wince audibly. :(

Rayne 05-20-2008 10:44 AM

Big, Black Chevy Suburban...Fits everyone, holds everything, takes us where we wanna go.

On a 4x4???

My father in-law dent his CJ5 the first day he got it and was very proud of that. He loved off-roading heh.

urgeok2 05-20-2008 10:45 AM

only problem with 4X4 trucks these days is that they rarely have the 8' box - which was a must for me. i used to have a Dodge Dakota ..8' box - but small cab.

Roderick Usher 05-20-2008 10:45 AM

My car is a turd. A piece of shit 91 Toyota Camry with a dent in the door and no radio that I bought for $600. I only use it to go to meetings or when I need to get out of town. A nice car would be cool, but I really don't give a shit about cars. All I need is something that runs and gets great gas milage.

My day-to-day stuff is all done on my bike!:D

The truck sure has had plenty of suffering of me as a crazyass driver.

the car i'm in now is the 1st thing i've ever had where the sound system wasnt more valuable than the car it was in. (and the sound systems werent expensive)

but i ALWAYS had to have music - no matter what - it was the 1st priority.

i fucking hate riding bicycles. i had to rely on one far too long ... no going back now.

Very true.

Although the wheels and the suspension of one of these babies is killer, and takes you anywhere off the road, like Des pointed out. :D

ferretchucker 05-20-2008 11:11 AM

Though I don't DRIVE it, we have a Sports Blue PT Cruiser Face Lift Model with added 50's crome around the wheels.

It's okay though, everyone says the Suburban kinda looks like a big hearse :D

Was your bike ever this sweet?

I love the bike - 0 environmental impact, great work-out and I finding it tremendously calming when stressed-out to simply hop on the bike and cruise around a bit.

Grocery Store, comic shop, park, hot dog stand and movies are all just a few pedals away.

urgeok2 05-20-2008 12:00 PM

i was insane on a bike.

it's why i never got a motorcycle and it's something that - thank god - didnt transition to driving a car.

i used to have at least 1 spectacular accident on a bike a year, a few of them putting me in the hospital.

i rode so much i could go over an overpass in 10th gear without standing up ...
would strip the gears right off.

i just did it way too long and too dangerously to look at it as fun now ...

(although i appreciate the environmental impact)

i live outside of toronto so there's no way i could bike to work even if i wanted to

amc420vt 05-20-2008 01:36 PM

this is my hot rod. 91' toyota pickup.
it had a run in with a deer. and a guardrail.
and the tires are bald..and yes i took it out in the mud with shitty tires.
and something is wrong with the water pump gasket. or thermostat housing.
but it still gets me from point A to point B.
i like it.
:)

i drive a 2000 saturn LS2 that gives me constant grief.

horrorobsessed 05-20-2008 02:15 PM

i drive a '96 Toyota Camri

it leaks oil, needs an oil change, and a new CV joint in one of the tires (it makes this horrible popping noize). despite how much these things are needed i can't get my stepdad to get off his ass and fix them...seeing as how i know absolutely nothing about how to fix a damn car. i can check and add oil though.

it gets me around though and it has as good stereo.

The_Return 05-20-2008 03:13 PM

Too damn lazy to get my license, but my parents have a 2007 Toyota Rav 4 (looks exactly the same as Newb's), and a 2007 (I think?) Chevy Aveo.

Freak 05-20-2008 03:20 PM

I drive a 98 Dodge Avenger, all black.I'll post a pic of it later.

Vodstok 05-20-2008 03:35 PM

2002 Mitsubishi Galant. I love it, its plain medium grey, has a v6 and kicks balls on the highway :)

Bree has a kia sedona, maroon, and also with a v6, and kicks balls on regular roads. total soccer mom car.

ChronoGrl 05-20-2008 03:42 PM

1996 Subaru Legacy Sedan. Dark blue. Little banged up in the front (ran into my garage space a couple of times - it's narrow).

It's a tank.

GorePhobia 05-20-2008 03:53 PM

I had a 97 Chevy Cavilier but the head gasket went on it a few months ago. So now I am carless.

Until the new (hopefully hybrid ) Crossover...2006 Black Ford 500.
The car tells me if it needs gas, oil, whatever.
I would have no clue otherwise.
I take it to Adam's when it gets dirty.
It's very comfy, but getting too small with two almost tweens and a carseat.

I like that it's a highly safe car... cause if I get plowed by one of these botoxed stepford moms in their white SUV's while talking on their cell and probably will only think they hit a cat when they crush me, I know we'll all survive.

pinkfloyd45769 05-20-2008 05:50 PM

I'm a stepford mom with a BLUE SUV!!! Sorry Nova!:(
