favorite horror scene in a non-horror movie?
sorry if this thread's been done to death, just blame the newbie! :)
well we all know a lot of violent films that aren't horror movies but still depict some pretty visceral stuff.. mob and war movies spring to mind in particular. i've heard the normandy scene at the start of saving private ryan is pretty strong with bits of head etc flying about.. so what's your favorite? i have to say, the scene in 'blackhawk down' where the grunt is on the operating table and they're trying to clamp his leg vein was unwatchable for me. so real, so.. 'medical'. i actually fainted dead out in the theatre (never happened to me before, pretty scary when you're brain bubbles back online and you've no idea wtf just happened!). |
Ummmmm
Hard to think. Umm... what about...hmm.. whenever Eric Draven would kill someone in "The Crow" it's a fantasy movie, and the deaths weren't SCARY. But some of them were gory, and it kicked ass!
|
ahh yes? never seen it but that sounds good, inventive 'kills' are always welcome!
what about the scene in pulp fiction, where she gets the adrenaline needle plunged into her chest.. god i was queasy after that one too |
I've never seen Pulp Fiction. But, if you like people getting stabbed in the heart with needles, it happens in "The Crow". Eric Draven stabs some guy in the heart with several needles. Then he carves a crow into the guys chest.
HAHAHAHAHAHA. |
Joe Pesci and a pen is a dangerous combination.

your twisted glee is palpable! i have a thing about needles and the ultra-medical, i.e. i can watch dismemberments or entrail-eating all day long but the hell with turning on the open heart surgery channel on t.v... might have to check this crow out since it has an appearance by the band medicine that i used like |

hehe indeed it is! ugh, what about him watching his brother get battered with that metal bat in the cornfield in 'casino'.. feckin hell |

Full Metal Jacket where the guy who's always made fun of gets his revenge by shooting the drill sergeant.

cheers venger, there's a lot to see, especially since coming onto this board (uh, that's sorta gross ;)), so it's good to weed out the worthwhile stuff from the blehh |

The first Crow is good though. Definitely worth buying. |
how about the scene in sixth sence when suicide moms ghost is ranting in the kitchen?
|
Almost any war movie with graphic footage could qualify. I stay away from those though, too real!
Lots of good scenes in Riki-O which I think qualifies more as an action movie. Also if you don't count sci-fi as horror there are tons of scenes in movies like Alien and Event Horizon comes to mind. Pretty gross! |

I haven't seen any of the sequels, nor do I want to. What's the freaking point?!?! If they all suck so bad. I don't think I ever want to watch any of the sequels. You should see the first one, though. It's really good. I've loved it since it came out. |

"American History X...... curbjob OUCH"
they don't actually show him doing this, but every time that scene comes along, i turn my head ! fucking horrible !! the torture scene in reservoir dogs got to me with the fact that michael madsen's character is such a sick fuck !!! |
yes to those last two, the ear in r. dogs (but even worse the gasoline afterward, the first time you watch it you are riveted) and the curbjob indeed. shit you know robocop has some nice ones, the first bit where weller gets disembodied via shotguns-at-close-range, the 'glitch' where the giant robot runs amok and sprays the guy's chest to bits in the boardroom.. and the fella who falls into the drum of toxic waste and gets blasted to blobs all over the car, that was a great movie!

Another one I can think of is the bar scene in "Desperado". Where practically everyone gets the shit shot out of them, and there's just blood everywhere.
|
The Exterminator and Die Hard 2 had the greatest throat-slittings I've ever seen.
|
y'know one that always freaked me when i was small was when the nazis open the ark of the covenant at the end of raiders. first one german looks like he literally gets the life vacuumed out of him and then there's the close-up of that chap's face melting. oh and the pumping heart removed from the chest in temple of doom! glack hate hearts
|
Maybe it's just me..But I think I'm desensitized to gore....I can't really think of anything that sticks out in my mind as like OMG! I can't believe that just happened...I dunno...Seems like I've got something, but I can't think of it....
|
Sorry for the double post...ADD...Didn't want to lose my train of thought finding the edit button....
Loved the Scene in Fargo with the woodchipper.... |
how about in Casino where they take joe pesci and some other guys to that corn field and beat the fuck out of em with baseball bats and then bury em alive ( i will never forget that for the rest of my life)
|
Yeah, I think I've become desensitized to horror movie gore, too. While although, some scenes are pretty cool (as the ones I named) nothing gore-related shocks me anymore.
When I was younger my Mom sister and I were watching "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" then there was this scene where Frankenstein rips a womans heart out. I FREAKED out. I had to stop watching it. For the next few years whenever I saw someone getting their hearts ripped out in movies I would freak. I think one time I can remember was in "Vampire in Brooklyn". Then I just kind of grew out of it. In Queen of the Damned Akasha rips a vampire's heart out, and eats it. But it doesn't bother me anymore. Nor does the scene in Scream when Casey's hanging from a tree, or when her boyfriend Steve gets gutted. Some guy got his skin ripped off in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". That was kind of funny, though. |
"the last of the mohicans" had a good heart ripping scene, where an Maugwa used a knife to get all up in the guys chest cavity then he pulled it out and ate it. Cool scene
Alot of cool scalping too, that shits hardcore when you can see the victims brain afterwords. Cool movie. |
I laugh sometimes at death scenes in movies. The ones that look so fake. I laugh because they look fake. Like the one in "Freddy Vs. Jason" when Jason stabbed that guy several times in the back, then folded the bed up on him. Good times.
|
Speaking of eating hearts...It did gross me out in Friday the 13th...Whichever one it was, can't recall it off the top of my head, but when Jason's heart started beating again, and the mortician dood went all nuts and Bit into Jason's Heart and it sprayed all the black shit all over the place...It just looked wrong...

very cool movie indeed. the last sequence when the son of the main character's "brother" ( confused yet ? sorry, can't remember names ) gets his throat slit by maugwa was really good. the way the blood sprayed around and across maugwa's face... nice ! |

Hmmm I think I'll go with the opening scene in Basic Instinct. She really stabs the fuck out of that guy.
|
i think that was really the best ending i've ever seen to a movie. poetic and hardcore at the same time, you've really got to love it !
now if i'm going to be picky, the way they all look like they have just recently been in a l'oreal commercial after such a scene struck me as odd, but hey... after a scene like that, i'll let it pass ! :p :D |
Two scenes that come to mind are the one is "1 Hour Photo" when the blood starts pooring from Suy's eyes, and the scene in "Dead Presidents" when he has the dream with all the blood in the butcher's shop. Good stuff.
|
Well, this isnt a non-horror movie, but oh well...
How bout the scenes in The Shining? The blood coming out of the elevators and then the old woman in the bathtub. I found those pretty disturbing when I first saw it. |
There is a scene in David Lynch's "Lost Highway" where a guy is thrown through the air and the corner of a glass table is lodged in his forehead.
Come to think of it, there are a lot of horror scenes in that surreal/noir movie. Eyeball |
