Please help keep Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare Remake!

You've probably heard the news about the upcoming Nightmare on elm street remake by now. Platinum Dunes plans on remaking the film and has not asked Robert Englund to play Freddy yet. What an insult!

If you're a Freddy fan, please sign our petition to keep Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare Remake.

Also please continue to help spread the word about this petition. Many fans feel the same way I do and now it's time to attempt to stop this. It's too early for Robert to retire this role. He should at least have one final film as Freddy....let's make it happen and let Platinum Dunes and New Line know how we feel here!

Also, here's a protest video i made that you should check out if you haven't yet....

I actually wouldn't mind seeing someone new do the role. I don't think Robert Englund was ever anything special.

BloodRedFlower 04-15-2008 01:55 PM

I signed it.

The Mothman 04-15-2008 02:10 PM

it shouldnt be remade anyway.

newb 04-15-2008 02:10 PM

I understand Keith Richards is vying for the role.

I agree, most remakes are pointless. And it's not just horror films - there was even a remake of 12 Angry Men!!

If NOES is going to be remade no matter what, though, then why have Robert Englund in the role again? If he plays the role in the same way, then people would say it was pointless - and if he played the role differently, people would say he shouldn't have changed it, so it's a no-win situation.

Ditto that.... This is just a bad idea all around.

Doesn't matter how many people sign your petition. Because producers, etc know most horror fans are suckers and will go see it anyway.Horror fans are so desperate for horror movies that they will just about watch anything. How else would you explain paris hilton making it into a remake of what many call a classic. You think she would been picked for a remake of some serious drama classic such the godfather or gone with the wind? of course not cause the movie producers opinion of horror fans is that they will watch anything. but who knows it might be ok. the alien franchise seems to be moving on since they left out whats her face (ripley) even though it did have some help from predator. but halloween sucked since curtis left too. So who knows. i'll go and watch it (dvd) and i bet everyone who signs the petition will go see it too.

The_Return 04-16-2008 03:40 AM

As awesome as Englund is, I actually think it would be cool to see somebody else's take on the role.

That said, I'd prefer no remake at all...but that isn't particularly likely.

Staplez 04-16-2008 01:45 PM

Ugggghhhhhhh.

I dont care if they remake it or not. I dont care who plays what role. If the trailer sparks my intrest Ill check it out, if not, I woulnt.
Im tired of bitching about remakes, watch it or not. Who cares.

colubrid660 04-21-2008 05:48 PM

Englund has played that role more than anyone has reprised any role I can think of (except maybe Doug Bradley as Pinhead). I'd say maybe give him a break and see how someone else hacks it. That is, of course, if they really have to make a remake at all.

Maybe Depp can play Krueger this time...

Now that sounds interesting. If they get a GOOD actor to play Freddy, fine. But if it's someone we've never seen or heard of and that can't act, I think they should stick to Englund (not that he's a great actor anyway...).

And nope, it shouldn't be remade. Maybe a new chapter, but not remade.

But then again... the whole series sucked except the first and the last movie, so maybe they should remake from 2 on.
*get's ready to get spanked*

Englund is a fine actor..I was joking about Depp. He could never be threatening or creepy enough to play Krueger. He'll always be "that guy from 21 Jump St." to me, seeing him try to be scary would be hilarious.

If its a good re-imagining, like Dawn of the Dead or Halloween, then I say go for it.

I thin Lindsay Lohan should be in the starring role

The only 2 that didn't suck are the 1st one and New Nightmare. The 2nd was okay, just a little....80's cliche I guess.

I don't think Englund is much of an actor, but I never saw him in any other role so...

Depp can be creepy! That 21 Jump St. thing was ages ago, I think his roles in some Tim Burton movies granted him some creepiness. Specially in Sweeney Todd. But of course I doubt Depp would ever take that role. It would be ironic, seeing him become Freddy when he died at his hands some 20 years ago :D

somehow I knew Sweeney Todd was going to be mentioned...

Depp looks creepy because his high cheekbones combined the Burton's ubiquitous white pancake makeup gives him a corpselike aspect. But hes too pretty to be scary really...

and yeah it would be ironic not only foryour reason, but he is also the only actor besides Englund in that movie whop is still active.

I'm guessing you didn't like Sweeney Todd :o

I wasn't too huge a fan of it either, actually. it wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that good either. guess i just don't like musicals all that much.

What do you mean the only one who is still alive?

Um....he said "active", not "alive".

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of musicals. Plus, Johnny Depp playing a pale-but-pretty guy in a Tim Burton film has been done like....a lot of times. Enough already.

I understand what you mean. Tim Burton's fame might turn against him because some people tend to get sick of movies that are watched by... too many people. But it's a pity, because I think he has a beautiful mind.

Hey.. and I hate musicals, Sweeney Todd was an exception for me.

I agree. Sleepy Hollow was cool, so was Batman and some others, but its getting a bit overdone.

The only musicals I like are Trey Parker and Matt Stone movies.
