Favorite Film Endings

What are you're favorite film endings? Some that come to mind are:

-Planet Terror (It's got optimism, a little twist, and one last punch of action)

-Casino Royale(The name's bond... James Bond)

- Memento (Where was i?)

- Sunshine (I won't spoil why I like it, but it was good imo)

- Juno (Typical romanctic comedy ending, but effective)

-Scream (and arguably Scream 3)

-Return of the Living Dead (Hilariously macabre)

- The Silence of the Lambs(I think it's very chilling how he hangs up the phone and walks off, and the credits run but the camera never fades, and just shows that same landscape, with Lecter disappearing off.

What are your faves?

I loved it as well, but I don't really like the *very* end. The conversation I mean. It felt kind of lifeless.

Disease 03-06-2008 03:29 PM

Taxi Driver

Friday the 13th pt 3

Harold and Maude

Trainspoting

Smoke

Plenty more...

Vertigo was a good suggestion by Alky...

See it again, and really listen to what is being said. It's nothing short of chilling. I couldn't imagine a better way to end the film.

Wow, Disease- you really impressed me- first by having seen Harold & Maude, and then mentioning how great the ending is. It really puts you through changes. I love that film, and I love the ending.

Some other obvious choices:

Casablanca

Carrie

I'm actually getting the chance to see it at the cinema in a few weeks, which I can't wait to do...

I have a friend who is a huge fan of it and was the first person to show me the movie, I wish he could be here to see it on the big screen with me....

X¤MurderDoll¤X 03-06-2008 04:54 PM

jacob's ladder

I have to admit with the sixth sense, I went to see it at the cinema, fell asleep by the end, afterwards my mate was crapping on about the ending but we drank a lot of Bourbon at the bAr and forgot what he said...

I I watched it again on dvd with friends, fell asleep, again, to wasted fell asllep...

finally about a year later I watched it by myself,, I went oh yeah, that's pretty good, huhu.

It's all true, the same thing happend with the MAtrix...

I think most of us "horror" fans tend to like the more unconventional movie endings.

must be a chemical imbalance :D

Posher778 03-06-2008 05:19 PM

Alky- You're right about NCFOM, I read the conversation, and that is a very spooky finale.

Double Jeopardy has a stellar ending, although it is a bit abrupt.

Staplez 03-06-2008 05:28 PM

Night of the living dead
Rocky
Reservoir dogs
The Decent
The Unforgiven
Goodfellas
Phantsam

I didn't have a problem with the ending, just not memorable...

I can't believe I didn't mention night of the living dead... maybe it was to obvious.

Despare 03-06-2008 06:32 PM

There are soooooooooo many good endings out there, I'll just throw one out there I guess.

Hmm this is interesting...
  • The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (possibly THE best ending ever!)
  • Vertigo
  • The Sixth Sense
  • The Others
  • Reservoir Dogs
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Jacob's Ladder
  • Carrie
  • Planet of the Apes (original...what an ending!)
  • Don't Look Now
  • Night of the Living Dead
  • Wait Until Dark
  • Picnic At Hanging Rock
  • The Shawshank Redemption, and
  • Se7en (try beating that)

I agree. The whole name on the grave thing was really clever, and the final showdown with the music was just awesome! What a great ending to a great trilogy!

The ending to Perfect Blue was very memorable, as well as The Machinist.

Vodstok 03-07-2008 12:15 PM

i wont bother to repeat amny of the nedings listed above that i love, but here are a few that havent been listed (Okay, Se7en bears repeating)

The Usual Suspects
Michael Clayton
28 Days Later (okay, just before then end, Jim going apeshit on the soldier)
Batman Begins (subtle hint there about the next villain)
Team America: World Police. ("You had me at 'Dicks fuck assholes'")

Angra 03-07-2008 12:17 PM

Fight Club
Sixth Sense
Shutter Island (oh, just you wait and see) ;)

Random?

Macready and Childs blew the sit out of the base camp and neither knows if the other is infected, so they sit opposite each other and watch each other freeze to death

it's fucking brilliant

Exactly. Same reason it was on my list.

Cinestro 03-07-2008 04:12 PM

West of Zanzibar - has my bid for probably the best ever ending!
The Fly - both versions
Casablanca
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Sixth Sense
Return of the Jedi
Night of the Living Dead
The Prestige
The Abandoned
Saw
Haute Tension
Jacobs Ladder
Death Proof - last 15 mins were my favorite
The Sign of the Cross (1932)
The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) - one of the best movies ever, ever made!
He Who Gets Slapped
Freaks
Ebola Syndrome
Shrooms

...and so many more!

Zero 03-07-2008 04:31 PM

the gate - without a doubt

newb 03-07-2008 05:01 PM

nor i, although i'd like to.

well, since we're talking about television shows now:
six feet under has without a doubt the most incredibly, astonishingly amazing finale ever. sooooo good.

Angra 03-07-2008 09:46 PM

Oh, "the usual suspects" of course.
The game
Planet of the apes
Bloodsport (not mindblowing, but what the hell)

AUSTIN316426808 03-07-2008 10:21 PM

-Unforgiven
-Million Dollar Baby
-Friday Night Lights
-Requiem For A Dream

MDB and Requiem, aren't exactly enjoyable, but extremely effective.

Zero 03-08-2008 05:39 PM

i don't know - i started to watch one episode but then couldn't get into it - and then it got so much hype i couldn't get around to watching the series

i've been hearing lots of good things about The Wire - anyone watched that?

ChronoGrl 03-08-2008 05:45 PM

I just watched The Departed for a second time. And, for a second time, I think the ending is absolutely fucking phenomenal.

Have you seen Infernal Affairs trilogy (The Departed's inspiration)? Great endings in that series too.
