Forced Viewing

OK, this is how this thread works. I suggest three movies, someone watches one of them and posts what they thought of it. Then they get to suggest 3 movies, this will in all likelihood die a horrible death but that's ok. Don't pick a movie you've seen, the whole point is to FORCE you to watch new movies.

They Call me Bruce (Comedy)
The Living in the Home of the Dead (Drama)
The Sentinel (Horror)

Not a bad idea MD. I wouldn't mind giving They Call Me Bruce a viewing.

The Sentinel....is that the 1977 one with Chris Sarandon?...saw that when it first came out....should probably give that one a revisit as well.

Freak 02-29-2008 07:20 PM

I'd be interested in doing this as well.

I'm with newb on wanting to see They Call Me Bruce.

Marya Zaleska 02-29-2008 07:31 PM

The Sentinel was a 1977 horror movie based on the same name novel by Jeffery Konvitz.

It starred Cristina Raines, Chris Saradon and horror star great John Carradine. A beautiful but highly neurotic fashion model moves into a NYC brownstone house that has been divided into apartments. The house is inhabited on the top floor by a blind priest ( Carradine) who spends all of his time sitting at an open window.

Having starnge physical problems and nasty flashbacks of her earlier suicide attempt, she complains to the real estate agent about the noisy neighbors only to find out that there are none. All of the supposed neighbors were dead criminals. She realizes that she is living in the gateway to hell and ultimately she has been put in the house for a reason. She is now the new Sentinel.

The film originally caused controversy when it was revealed that the director ( Michael Winner) used actual disfigured people to represent demons in the climax.

I personally found this film to be very good and very scary at times. It was an eerie film all the way through. I liked it. I would recommend it for viewing. It is available on DVD.

My recommendations for viewing are:

The Gathering (2001) (horror)
Salem's Lot (1979- TV Movie) (horror/vampires)
Kingdom Of The Spiders (1977) (horror/scifi)

I recommended only films that are readily available on DVD.

:) :) :)

It's amazing how you watched that movie in just over 45 minutes! wow, read my post again k thx.

Newb: Watch "They Call me Bruce" asap and get back with 3 suggestions to continue the thread. you will LOVE it! :)

This may be a slower moving thread, but that's how it has to be. I might think of alterations to it.

2nd edit: sorry for being in a pissy mood, marya... Good review, but the whole point is for people to watch movies they haven't seen.

Admittedly, not too much.....:p I can't help myself. We are never going to make it through all of these movies. But I moved that one up a bit, in hopes that I will be able to participate in any discussion about the film.

Would you be participating this year you think?

Watched They Call me Bruce last night. It was a decent comedy that wasn't subtle in the least. Every one liner was timed well and every movie spoof was accompanied by the proper faux theme. I also really liked how Yune played off his Asian heritage and used Chinese stereotypes to make some good jokes. The only thing that disappointed me was the very end, other than that I liked it. Here's my three for you fine folks.

How to Kill Your Neighbor's Dog
Dreadnaught (Yong zhe wu ju)
2LDK

Somebody should give one of these three a try (it has to be one you haven't seen) and then come up with three more. I really dig this idea and I'll just keep bringing it back from the dead threads graveyard.

Then you might be the next one to post in this thread because I'm to keep bumping it until people get so sick and tired of seeing it they participate. Bastards.

Despare 05-02-2008 09:33 AM

Told ya.

pinkfloyd45769 05-03-2008 09:53 AM

I'm going to try to find one of these tonight.I looked them up and i think i want to watch 2ldk,that or How To Kill Your Neighbors Dog.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 05-12-2008 11:36 PM

I just watched 2LDK and I loved every minute of it. Seriously, everything about this movie is brilliant and everyone needs to see it.

Let's go with a theme of unfortunate romances for my 3:

Love Comes for the Executioner
Nekromantik 2
Spike of Love

Elvis_Christ 05-13-2008 01:27 AM

I've got the first Nekromantik but haven't got round to watching it yet.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 05-18-2008 10:05 PM

I can only find Love Comes.... and it's in my queue. I suppose there are some on here without the time and others who might be afraid to step out of their little well decorated box.

Psycom5k 05-19-2008 10:51 AM

Well I don't have a netflix account, so I've been trying to find one of those movies at the video rental places around here with no luck.

Despare 05-25-2008 09:42 AM

Love Comes to the Executioner

Not bad, an interesting love story with a lot of dark comedy and some really goofy dialogue sprinkled in. Save the world with conjugation? Heh, it made me laugh but it's not up there with my favorite movies that's for sure. I guess I'm not the romantic comedy type. ;) In short; goofy fun. Snapshots during the credits were good too.

Ok, pick one you haven't seen:

Delicatessen
Grave of the Fireflies
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge

Despare 05-27-2008 10:38 PM

I especially would like somebody who hasn't seen a lot of good, mature animated films to check out Grave of the Fireflies.
