HDC Vintage 101
Hello, Horror.com.
For almost six months, myself and a panel of some of HDC's most distinguished and impassioned classic horror buffs have been working, debating, data mining, correcting obnoxious clerical errors due to my nonexistent organizational skills, and generally i-dotting and t-crossing in the interest of vintage horror. While the forum itself defines classic horror as pre-1970, I thought that 1967 would make a good cut off, because it was 40 years before when we began and before films like Rosemary's Baby and Night of the Living Dead began to define modern horror. I hope HDC appreciates, learns from, and grows upon these selections, which we fought tooth and nail in order to best represent our panelists and the multitude of films we picked out. Thanks Alky, Countess Marya Zaleska, Despare, ManchestrMorgue, Neverending, Return, Rod, __V__ and Zwoti. Without further ado, here you go, HDC. I'm posting them alphabetically for now and leaving blurb space. Why 101? It's old school and Vintage Horror is at least 1% special. Vintage horror is often inexpensive and fairly easy to collect thanks to Universal, Kino and companies like them. MGM's Hollywood Horror Legends box set contains three of the entries on here. The recent Roger Corman collection boasts Bucket of Blood and X- the Man with the X Ray Eyes. Kino's American Silent Horror box set is an absolute treasure, as are Anchor Bay's Mario Bava collections. Enjoy these classics and remember that as consumers, we vote with our dollar. If we want to see classic horror films restored, purchasing the latest torture porn we kind of liked for the price of four or five good classic horror films isn't going to help. Support them by buying them and giving them a watch. Happy viewing! |
Excellent job, fellows. Sorry I sort of bailed at the end of the process. Things have been a bit crazy for me lately.
So happy to see West of Zanzibar make the final list. That movie always makes me cry. |

Damn fine list people, I can't say that I've seen them all, or that I plan on it, but there are a few that sparked my interest because of the titles. Thanks very much for the hard work, to everybody involved.
|
Thanks Doc, for posting it all and keeping track of everything, it must have been a pain. Especially plugging away at everybody and keeping the list moving forward as things got hectic for some of the people involved.
|
WoW! Great work guys!!
I was looking for a fine list of classic horrors for a long time. This is definitely a very worthy list to follow for any true horror fan. Thanks & congratulations to everyone who are involved with the development of the list. :) |
Very nice list! Still a few I have to see yet myself honestly, but several of my favorites are there. Great job guys. :)

Good work, Doc.
We did a damn fine job, eh gang? |
That is a great list. It's a challenge in finding all of them, but once the consumer info is up it should be easier.
I love some of them. Great Job everyone. |
Hey Doc, Thanks for taking the time to put this list. Could you give me, in no particular order, the top ten in your opinion so that I can have a good starting place.
Thanks |
