The Descent: What's The Difference Between The Original Uncut & Original Unrated Cut?
 

So, what is the difference -- without giving any spoilers -- between the "Original Uncut" & "Original Unrated Cut" editions of this film? I need this answered ASAP!

Unrated... is better.

the "Original Uncut" is the cut of the film that played in the UK, not the US cut (which is slightly shorter), but it is still rated.

The "unrated" is the same, with more blood. As Posher said - get the unrated. It's sort of an easy film rule, regardless of genre. When an Unrated version is offered, choose it over anything that had to pass a ratings board.

But, 'unrated' still has to pass a film classifications board...at least here in Canada which I find stupid; for example here in Nova Scotia where I am currently living 'unrated' gets classified 18.

and unrated means just that - it hasn't been rated. That's why it's tagged with an 18, because it won't submit for a lower classification.

I thought the Original Uncut and Original Unrated Cut was the exact same... Maple does the distribution for Lionsgate in Canada. So in the US, Lionsgate released the Original Unrated Cut, while in Canada Maple released the Original Uncut. They were both the same, the wording on the packaging just differed.

I for one have never seen the Original Unrated Cut, nor even the theatrical cut, DVD here in Canada. I have only ever found Original Uncut, which always comes packaged with a second disc.

I did see the movie in a "festival theatre" -- so called, because they usually carry the festival movies -- when I lived in Calgary, unfortunately I fell asleep watching it, not because I was bored, my insomnia catches up with me at the weirdest times.

I currently have the one that says "Original Uncut" on the box, but it only has one DVD...not two. So, is there a difference between the "Original Uncut" & "Original Unrated Cut"...possibly?!

Mine has 2-discs, the second being a special feature called "The Fine, Fearless and Feisty." Never watched it, but it's there.

The only two that seem to have 2 discs are as follows:

The Descent - Abgrund des Grauens (Deluxe Edition, 2 DVDs; 2006)

The Descent (2 Disc Special Edition; 2005)

Well, I'm not lying to you. Mine is the typical "Original Uncut", with the red and black cover depicting the female lead bursting out of a pool of blood. It was released by Maple, who distributes Lionsgate releases in Canada. It has the original first disc, and an additional second disc in a disc tray (one of those trays which snaps on to the spine...)

I found the original unrated cut at a discount store nearby. It's only one disc. As for Mlauzon, as long as you get the uncut version you're fine. It has a much better ending.
EDIT: looks like it was distributed by Linsgate and not Maple so it must be from the States some how.

Yeah, that happens sometimes. My House of 1000 Corpses DVD is released by Lionsgate, and comes in special packaging (it's a foldout constructed with glossy cardboard.) The Maple versions are simply in regular cases.
