Classic Horror Tournament

After the success of my Sequel Tournament (sure, it wasn't as big as the first, but what did you expect? It was a sequel), I've embarked on another tournament. It's called the Classic Horror Tournament. 40 films will duke it out, to see who will be crowned the King of Classic Horror. The movies span from the 1920's-1960's. I hope you enjoy the tournament. No more need for an introduction. Let's get this thing started.

Round 1, Match 1

Carnival of Souls

VS

Nosferatu

Disease 12-07-2007 03:26 PM

Nosferatu you...............

Yellow Jacket 12-07-2007 03:37 PM

Nosferatu gets the first vote.

fortunato 12-07-2007 03:59 PM

carnival of souls

great tournament idea, by the way.

alkytrio666 12-07-2007 04:03 PM

Yes! Cool tournament.

If we're talking about the 1922 version, then my vote goes to Nosferatu. If we're talking about the 1979 version, which is the DVD pictured above, then my vote goes the other way.

punk666 12-07-2007 05:10 PM

Nosferatu..

Roderick Usher 12-07-2007 05:23 PM

I can't vote for the Klaus Kinski version

Carnival of Souls

neverending 12-07-2007 10:12 PM

Well, he specified films from the 1920s-1960s, and as the Kinski version was 79, I'm going to assume he was sloppy in chosing his graphic.

So, I vote for the original Nosferatu.

If he was sloppy in chosing his films, then I vote for Carnival of Souls.

VampiricClown 12-08-2007 05:15 AM

Oh wow. If you mean the 1922 version of Nosferatu, then this is a really hard one.

Unsure of which one you intended, I'm going to go with Carnival Of Souls.

Freak 12-08-2007 08:52 AM

Carnival of Souls

Disease 12-08-2007 08:56 AM

It must be The 22 version of Nosferatu, as 79 is not in the time frame specified... I'd say just the wrong poster was put up...

paws the great 12-08-2007 10:29 AM

Nosferatu........

ferretchucker 12-08-2007 11:02 AM

it's a shame that due to a bad choice of picture Nosferatu might lose, but it gets my vote.

Nosferatu..

AUSTIN316426808 12-09-2007 02:37 AM

I'll just assume he meant '22 and vote Nosferatu.

ChronoGrl 12-09-2007 06:06 AM

This is tough... But Carnival of Souls scared the HELL out of me when I was younger... In the spirit of nostalgia, I have to go with the Carnival...

Regardless of the Nosferatu version (though the original is such an amazing film)

Ditto......

Yellow Jacket 12-09-2007 02:15 PM

Sorry, picked the wrong DVD cover. I meant the 1922 version.

9-7, Nosferatu (1922 version) slightly wins and moves on. Next match up shortly.

No, it's just the first Cat People. This was the only DVD cover art I could find.

1-0 lead for Cat People.

cat people

alkytrio666 12-09-2007 05:33 PM

Cat People, my favorite classic horror movie ever.

VampiricClown 12-09-2007 05:41 PM

Ashamed to say, but I've never seen Cat People. So my vote is going to have to be given to The Black Cat.

missmacabre 12-09-2007 05:41 PM

cat people :)

Going to have to vote against the crowd and go with Black Cat. It's a truly twisted story of sadism & revenge quite shocking for its time. And one of the few times Lugosi gets the upper hand on Karloff. And the art direction is amazing.

My avatar comes from this film.

Do yourself a favor and just buy the Val Lewton boxset. Cat People, I Walked With a Zombie, The Leopard Man, Isle of the Dead, The Seventh Victim, and The Body Snatcher are all necessities.

And the rest are great additions as well.
