Stopping with Soda...
Anyone wanna join me?
I understand the sugar levels in most are astronomical, if not replaced by OTHER chemicals your body really doesn't need, then there's the caffeine in the majority of them which pretty much hooks you (if you don't believe it, try going without caffeine of any form for a couple of weeks, caffeinaddicts) I assessed myself, and aside from at work where I drink say a coffee in the morning and then try to do the healthy thing, drink filtered/spring water throughout the day...outside of that, it's actually about 70% soda/softdrinks, about 20% hot drinks mainly containing caffeine, and the rest would be water and alcohol...ha... So I heard from this guy I work with, who's kinda still a fatso, but hey...that he stopped drinking soda, for the year and a half that he did so, without any other dietary changes, or additional excersize, he dropped 23 kilos, which in translation is 50.6 pounds. Sure, took him a year...but that's actually pretty significant. Not that I feel like I would want to drop quite THAT much weight, it represents that better health is behind it, so, I'm gonna try it. Gonna try it for 3 months, a total soda ban, and see how that plays out in terms of weight, and general health. Not quite ready to shed the morning coffee...but gonna try cut down on the other caffeinated drinks too, might get back into green/jasmine tea to sub. Either way....starting tommorow.... Just thought I'd share. Next up...the initiative to actually ATTEND a gym...when there's so many more interesting things to do in life... |
I'm with you
been weeks since I've had a soda I still need my beer, but no more soda for me! |
I normally don't drink soda often. I am more of an iced tea kind of guy.
|
Try iced Jasmine, it's the shit, hot or cold.
Coulda bought some soda as my "last day" stuff at the shop just now...but the girl talked me out of it. I am now the proud owner of 24 bottles of spring water. Hitting up the blue mountains (aussie thing...look it up) for hiking tomorrow, should come in handy. Quote:

Yeah I enjoy drinking even though that is very fattening but hey I am a fat kid so I guess whatever. I need to start exercising a bit and lose about 50 pounds.

I wouldn't go with "fat" fat, but I'm overweight for my height...which of course doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot, I'm average height but a pretty stocky guy so any extra weight I don't need...got some pounds I could shed. Yeah, the excersize thing, probably a good idea...just need to execute. |

Hey,
Drinking only water actually does work. My mother has done this, I really don't know how much weight she lost, but it worked for her. I haven't been drinking soda for a few months now. I mostly stick to Green Tea, my morning coffee, and my nightly beer. Which doesn't help at all, lol. Good luck, and enjoy your hike if you haven't already taken it! |

Yeah I drink as much water as I can. I enjoy water. |
Due to my acid reflux as mentioned in a previous thread messes with your eating habits.A few months ago I stopped taking my medicine and ended up messing my stomach up so bad to the point the only thing I could eat was crackers and water for almost 2 months.I ended going from 240lbs to 160lbs in two months time. While I admit it was a very unhealthy way to lose the weight,I look a lot better.

Not much of a soda drinker. Iced tea or water for me...........when i'm not drinking beer.
beers healthy...all natural ingredients:D |
I never drink soda. unfortunately I drink loads of coffee and alcohol (mostly beer).
I will say that I lost weight when I quit the soda. I'm not fat, but an average size, and I lost probly about 15 lbs fairly quickly, and I wasn't even trying! I've read in magazines and the newspaper that "researchers" have supposedly found some serious links between diet soda and obesity. something about your body stops correlating sweet stuff with calories. I think it has something to do with the fact that most people who drink diet soda are probly making a faint attempt at losing weight, so they are probly fatasses anyway. |
I love juice. Grapefruit juice. Lots and lots of grapefruit juice.
Though my work offers free soda and I think I've imbibed more Diet Mountain Dew in the past three months than my entire life. Good luck with ditching the drink... Quote:

I have thought about trying to give it up... my dentist was presureing me to..
But when I'm hung over I need a cold fizzy drink... Get that head ruch and it seems to take away the dehydration more than juice.. I probably drink around 2 litres of soda a week... It's hard to kick. |
As some of you might know, I'm completely addicted to Coca Cola classic. But I've pretty much stopped drinking it, except for an occasional can or bottle on the weekend. Now all I drink is water, and one cup of tea in the morning. Been doing that since the beginning of September. I also exercise everyday now. I haven't lost a bit of weight. In fact, when I first started drinking the water, I PUT on weight...LOL. I'm sticking with it, but holy hell is it discouraging when everyone else in the world agrees that drinking mostly water helps. I mean, by cutting coke out of my diet, I cut my calories by a rather huge amount. I used to drink a lot of coke.

The ones I drink are, lemonade and Ginger beer... sometimes a pepsi max or a coke zero.
Sometimes rasbery soft drink with vodka.. We call it soft drink in Australia not soda.. strange Phalanx called it soda in the title of the thread. |

Yeah, I figured you did it because no one would know what the hell soft drink was.... ;) Very unpatriotic though... |
I drink water, coffee, green tea, pop (soda to some of you), liqour, and plenty more... I'm not giving any of it up. For some reason I just love to drink stuff.
|
Yeh, I only ever know them as soft or fizzy.
