Theater Or Dvd ????
 

How do you prefer to watch your horror?? Or any movies for that matter, do you enjoy going to the theater and seeing the new releases on the big screen? Or do you wait until they are released on DVD to watch them at home ?? I HAVE to see all the good Horror on the big screen !! But I have friends who wait until it's released to DVD no matter how long it takes. I'm not that patient either! *lol* :) Much Love~Blood D~

I prefer the theatre when it comes to horror. You get the full experience. Huge screen, surround sound and lots of preteens yelling and jumping in their seats.

DVD is good for extras and nights at home cuddling though.

I prefer watching at home.

I have got a decent sized screen and good sound, so the cinema experience is not that much better as far as picture and sound goes.

But at home I can start it when I want, sit more comfortably, possibly have a beer or two, and pause it for toilet breaks :)

Also, there are no heads in the way, and the floor is (hopefully) not sticky :)

Theatre by a country mile.

I prefer to go to the theatre but am not able to as much as I like.Money being an issue and not wanting to go watch it alone is another.

there it is.....I got me a nice Mitsubishi projector...100 inch screen I pull down...surround sound....just like a theatre....but cheaper popcorn.

There is no substitute for the theater, especially for horror

It is impossible to be frightened within the comforts of your own home...it's just too familiar and safe. Go into a public setting and something scary is instantly scarier...that and the lack of control.

At home you can turn something off to use the bathroom or pause for a snack which RUINS how the film's intentional pacing is supposed to work on your psyche.

I love watching my DVDs. It fun and it's easy...but it pales in comparison to making an event out of the viewing experience.

That's why I prefer DVD!

yes it is oh so great to not deal with smelly fat people and kids... and I can watch good movies. :D

I prefer the theatre by far!

The impact of the horror comes through on the large screen and surround sound.

There's something too about getting a large box of popcorn and a large icy soft drink .

"Pottying" is my biggest problem as you can tell from my picture. They don't make stalls for 115" hoopskirts.

However, most of my horror is watched at home on DVD from my large collection. But I still enjoy it!

Home, I feel safer in a theatre but at home I'm thinking, "What if someone breaks in and does what this guy does. Copycat killer." Also, I have surround sound and a pretty big screen.

There are some movies where the cinema is the only place to give the film justice, e.g. Jaws, Jurassic Park and the Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong, etc. All of which I've seen at the flicks.

If Im really desperate to see a film then yes, I'll go and see it at the cinemas.
However, the majority of films I've seen are on DVD or VHS.

Its pretty much a matter of convenience for me as the good horror films tend to be on later at night, I don't have my own car and live in the wilds and there isn't a local cinema, so have to rely on either taxis, who milk you dry and buses, which are non existent - around here a film may start at 9:00 or 10:00pm and therefore not finish to 11:00/12:00 pm. The last bus is 10:30pm.

i like both... i get agitated most times at the cinema but with horrors its intense.. if its a good horror.

tho i like watching old reels on a projector... its the noise of the thing that sticks with you

I used to love watching things on an old 8mm projector - until it died many years ago.

Would love to get a 16mm projector one day.

I would rather stay at home and watch dvds. But when it comes to the good stuff then yeah imma see it on the big screen. Don't go to the movies that often as its usually shit expensive and its cheaper just to buy the dvd when it comes out and if its shit then I pass it on to someone else haha.

This I never get. I saw Star Wars(Which will forever be the number one recipient of that label) in a theatre and in my house, same goes for the movies you listed and countless others that've recieved that inexplicable discription. While there is a difference, I just don't see the gap being that huge as to be able to say, ''only place to give the film justice''.

I don't know why but for me, when I pause a movie to go do whatever I'm thinking about it the entire time. So when I go back to it, most of the time, it adds to whatever the intention of the pacing maybe.

Same here. Most of the time you take a break in the theater you tend to miss out on some fun stuff, but thats no problem when watching at home.

Of course, the larger screen is great overall (and unmatched), but going by the size of the TVs and display of LCD projectors today, coupled with some really awesome digital DVD quality and sorround sound speakers, you cant complain much.

And the experience is much like Theater at home, hence the name Home Theater?;)

The theatre will always be the best place to watch movies. Your home is good but sometimes it's just not fun or anything. It's easier to fall asleep in your home and be too comfortable. At the theatre when you laugh alot of others laugh, when you cringe alot of others cringe. It's just so much fun.

american theatres are a LOT more into the movie than english ones. We laugh a bit and collectively jump. Not much screaming, no clapping. No cheering. no throwing popcorn up in the air.

Well how do you enjoy a movie without getting into it and clapping, cheering, and whatnot?

we get into it, but we just dont see the point in cheering and clapping. It's not like a play, they can't hear you.

Yeah but you cheer someone on because you've never seen it before. It makes it fun and makes it seem like your involved.

I had never heard cheering or clapping in a cinema until I went to america.

I always like to go out to the theater, but lately it's been DVD. Just watched 28 Days Later last night for the first time since the theater....hoping to see 28 Weeks eventually:rolleyes:

I like to go to the theater every once in awhile, though really I prefer being at home. I enjoy movies far more in the comfort of my own home, because then I don't have other people around me that climb over me to go to the bathroom or wherever the hell they have to go 15 times during the course of the film , using cell phones, or bringing small children that just aren't into the movie and get bored or sometimes outright terrified (there were several small children in the theater when we went to see the remake of Halloween, for example). I guess I am just not sociable enough or something because almost everytime I go see a movie in a theater, someone makes me regret it. I just get distracted and/or annoyed more easily, which makes me enjoy the movie a lot less than I would otherwise. So no way I could go on a regular basis...lol.

I love that! I cheer at trailers a lot. and I cheer the most for Harry Potter movies haha

I still love the theater for the mega screen , the incredible surround sound , AND the energy you feel in a packed theater, whenever there's a hell of a good movie showing !! Have cheered with the audience, booed with them!! Hysterically laughed, it's amazing how that feels when so many around you are experiencing the same.... :) The ticket prices are what's really SCARY nowdays!! And OMG!!! You can'rt get through concessions without spending a good twenty bucks ....what's the MOST you've spent for drinks and popcorn,candy at the theater??? I spent $77 but paid for a group of us to have goodies....

What is this talk about cheering at the cinema, I cheer at the Football not the movies!!!!

The movies and dvd both have there pros and cons.For example renting a dvd is cheaper, plus when you watch it at home you don't have to worry about people in front of you or people being rude through the whole movie.


At the theatre you get to experience a huge screen and fantastic sound.But like Blood Dragoness said the tickets and food are crazy expensive.

I also LOVE watching the DVD's at home , I actually only see what I think will be the best of those on the mega screen . What was the last movie you went to see at the theater, that was so disappointing it pissed you off, that you'd spent good money to see it??? ...for me it was The Village....sat through that long assed waste of film for THAT ENDING???? WTF ??? I was really pissed !! So were the rest of the people there.....

For me it was the new Halloween.I liked the beginning but after that it just went downhill real fast.But lucky me I got to see it real cheap.

You'll laugh at this one....I've not seen it yet! Have been so busy working , and by the time I've got around to it now, it's gone from the theaters....teach me wait too long, but I REALLY figured it would stay in the theaters until at least after the Halloween holiday itself... :rolleyes:

I agree! I would rather watch my DVD's at home and only special releases at the theatre.

I can sit back and relax in my creaky old rocker, smoke my pipe and sip my claret ( or is it blood?) I put the lights down, sit by my fireplace on a cold night and wrap up in my shawl.

Great atmosphere for watching a horror movie, don't you think?

I just go to the movies on Tuesdays. Half price tickets.

That's probably the BEST idea. :) Some of the dollar theaters here aren't the greatest for sound or picture and forget going on the weekends, packed!! Actually I don't think we even have "dollar theaters" anymore...prices are up to $1.50 ... so they are the dollar -and -a -half theaters now ;)
