John Carpenter's The Thing

I just watched it for like the 9th time this year alone and even still it manages to surprise me. Can someone recommend some (recent) movies like The Thing and/or The Blob? (with shapeshifting ghoulish mutations or something like that).

Invasion of the Body Snatchers, both the 1956 and 1978 versions. From what it sounds like, you'll love the '78 version.

Also, you may like Scanners.

Have you watched the original The Thing from Another World yet? If not, I suggest you watch it at least once. Carpenter's classic was great, but I think Howard Hawks did a lot of justice with the original. It has its fair share of good moments of horror much like Carpenter's, and with better characters.

Also, Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a pretty good recommendation. I would recommend you the original Blob with Steve McQueen. Add The Quatermass Xperiment and Quatermass and the Pit to that list too.

Definitely check out In Company of Wolves.

Also...Prince of Darkness

Thx for your replies guys :) The Fly movies are a bit dull imo, Tremors is hilaaaaaarious, but the creature looks *bleep* awesome. Tremors 1 ftw! The sequels are *insert negative comment here* Hellraiser movies are allright I guess. I never really managed to follow the storyline though :D

I guess a recent one is slither....

how about a couple more Cronenberg films:

Rabid
videodrome
shivers

And one starring Cronenberg:

Nightbreed

lol @ Slither, haven't seen it yet but it seems like an overabuse of special effects. I recently watched Dreamcatcher, which was ridiculous, wtf was that monster omg it cracked me up.

I also see there's a House of 1000 Corpses fan here (maybe some more :p) Rob Zombie ftw!! I haven't seen his Halloween remake yet, pretty curious about it.

Also, does Deep Rising classify as horror? I tremendously loved this movie with cheesy one-liners, I know it's a typical ocean + monster movie, but it has something, dunno how to quite put this...

It isn't...Slither is absolutely one of the best horror movies made in the last ten years. Hysterical and disgusting.
