Dead Silence - (Unrated DVD)

5/10
Not bad. It was a lot better than I expected. Good ghost story flix.
The dummies were pretty freaky. Definitely worth a rent.

Hey I had forgotten about this one.
I was actually kind of looking forward to it at one time, despite myself, I figured it was going to be pretty terrible. ;) I'm not even a Saw fan.
Maybe we will pick it up this weekend. Couldn't be any worse than some of the crap we have been renting lately.....:D

True Dat Sista. :D

This movie let me down. It looked pretty good, but what really sold me was the promise of a SAW-like twist ending. Endings make a movie for me, so I was rather excited - I am also a big fan of twists.

The ending here, and the "twist", is just plain terrible. It's as if it was tacked on last minute. It had no build-up, it lasted a mere ten seconds, and the shock value was about zero. I didn't see it coming, no, but it was delivered in such a way that one would shrug their shoulders and say "So what?"

It was just added on to SAY there was a twist and really didn't connect with the rest of the story at all. DISAPPOINTING.

You can do better, James.

Am I the only one who thought this movie was freakin scary???

If i had been a kid i would've had nightmares for weeks. Maybe even months. I thought it was an almost perfect horror movie.

And i even spotted that "twist ending" at the beginning of the movie. Yes i'm that good.

That movie pissed me off, I was expecting puppets to get up and move around by themselves, but it's just the Toothfairy from Darkness Falls with a fresh suit of skin.

Yeah, i was thinking Darkness Falls as well.

seeingred 07-12-2007 12:35 AM

to be honest, this movie let me down. i thought since it was made by the producers of SAW that it would be a great movie, and that it would be oneo f those movies that would stand out more from the mainstream like the SAW trilogy did. it just seemed like another child's play meets puppet master type of deal. but that's just my opinion.

roshiq 07-12-2007 01:11 AM

...and my opinion is...it was just fine. Though the story was quite simple and traditional, but it got some it's own scary moments and I enjoyed it.
Hope to see a good sequel in future.

How about a remake? :D

Shadow 07-12-2007 11:59 AM

Hell I forgot about this one also.
I seen the Trailer I I acctually do want to see this one.
Looked like a decent story and evil puppets what more can you ask for. lol
I will give it a look.

dawsey28 07-20-2007 04:36 AM

It did not let me down. But that is because I was expecting a descent scary movie and nothing more.

That is exactly what it was.

Roderick Usher 07-20-2007 07:35 AM

I really enjoyed it. A very straight-forward ghost story with creeps, jumps and mood. A throw-back spookhouse movie that totally succeeded in it's goal.

Now I'm looking forward to Wan's ode to Deathwish called DEATH SENTENCE, which comes out at the end of August and stars Kevin Bacon.

Unaboner3000 07-20-2007 12:31 PM

I thought this movie was just OK, but I am disappointed after watching this movie because it really could have been so much more. The plot with the evil ventriloquist woman and her evil dolls was cool. And with so many people that are creeped out by dolls, clowns and such.....this had potential to be one of the scariest movies in years. Unfortunately, the producers, directors, and actors could not pull off this off.

SodaGirl 07-24-2007 12:44 AM

Dead Silence was far better than I expected. I saw it at the theater, and it's suspense had me pretty freaked out. The acting was average, but I enjoyed the story and the ending quite a lot. I got the DVD the day it came out and have watched it a few times since.

Vodstok 07-29-2007 06:56 PM

Anyone else notice that towards the end of the movie, in the old theater, when DOnnie Wahlberg and the other guy are looking at the dolls, there is a pan where the doll from SAW shows up kind of blurry in the foreground.

My wife noticed it immediately.

crabapple 07-29-2007 07:08 PM

I'm very curious to see this one, looks like a good time for all.

Yes, and I noticed something else, why is Donnie Whalberg always a cop?

Yeah I yelled it out instantly to my kid who demanded we rewind and pause...

we're such movie nerds

nightmareslasher 07-30-2007 09:45 AM

i thought it was pretty fucking scary, but maybe thats just because dolls scare the shit out of me

Demonique 07-31-2007 10:46 PM

I enjoyed it. It was exactly what I was expecting and was a good watch. I didn't need it to stand out in any way. It's on my buy list.

gracie 08-04-2007 04:38 AM

I just finished watching it today. It was ok, had a few plot holes, and the acting of Donny was just sooooo bad. Twist at the end was ok, had some good atmosphere in it. I'd give it 6/10.

scarecrow666 08-04-2007 11:51 AM

I loved this film.I love good old spooky stories , and one with creepy dolls....best creepy doll film id seen.

a mccuaig 08-06-2007 03:56 PM

I rented it for bad b-movie night and it was a hit! It was entertaining, goofy and goes well with beer and pizza. I give it three skulls.
