The Tingler
I think that they should be showing this one more often with Percepto in the theaters. It was such a cool concept.
|
All of William Castle's concepts were pretty damn cool.
|
Anyone know if the rumor that Perceptp killed an old man is true? I've read in several fanzines that the jolt stopped some guy's pacemaker, but it sounds like an urban legend to me. David Skal, a guy who should know, said the only person to die viewing a horror movie was some kid with a heart problem who had a cardiac arrest while watching Universal's re-release double feature of Drac and Frank.
William Castle rocks by the way. Even read his book. Ever see Matinee, which Dante kinda based off his career? |
That does seem like Urban Legend material. I never heard anything about a Castle law suit, so it must be. Hehe.
Matinee was a cool flick. A nice little tribute to the man. |
Thats another movie to add to my list. The only movies that I have seen of his are 13 Ghosts and The Tingler.

I always think of the original House On Haunted Hill where they would have the skelentons fly across the audience and how well that would work these days in a theatre packed out watching a horror movie. |
The Tingler is classic Price. When I first watched this on Chiller Theater I thought the story line was fantastic. If a scream kills the creature, find a mute. Brilliant. And as for the wired chairs in the theater for the Tingler and the flying skeletons in House on Haunted Hill, those things can only add to a movie. Great concepts.

I loved loved loved The Tingler... I was lucky enough to catch it at NY's Film Forum where they rigged up the seats w/ the "tingler" shockers :) (it felt more like a buzzer). Also, one of the audience members was planted & during the movie house scene the planted person jupmed up screaming with a rubber Tingler on his spine (while the theater ushers ran after him with flashlights out).
It was a double feature with House on Haunted Hill where the skeleton came across the ceiling of the theater (was that called "Emergo"?). I don't know if the Film Forum still holds these horror festivals. I remember they showed The Tingler 2 years in a row, but that was over 4 years ago (when I last attended). Anyone have any info if the Film Forum still holds these horror festivals? |
