august underground mordum?

i'm finally getting round to buying this movie and wanted from you lot the details of the definitive version. don't wanna buy the cut version. so, i'm looking right now so help asap. thanks!

ManchestrMorgue 05-19-2007 05:46 PM

I wasn't aware that there was an edited release available.
However, I think if you get it from toetagpictures.com website you will be ok.

swiss tony 05-19-2007 05:54 PM

is there somewhere you can buy the trilogy in one go. some of the movies are sold out on that site

ManchestrMorgue 05-19-2007 06:00 PM

These guys have all 3 in stock, according to their website:

xploitedcinema.com

Just search on their site for "august underground" and you will see all 3. Note that some of the "snuff editions" are not in stock.

Hope that helps!

swiss tony 05-19-2007 06:21 PM

just ordered the trilogy for $80. don't care if thats too much as i've been hearing about this series of movies on here from day one. lets face it, it'll be weak. audition and irreversible were supposed to be hard going but didn't live up to the hype. hope these are NASTY!!!!!!! thanks for the info morgue. very knowledgeable

swiss tony 05-19-2007 06:23 PM

oh yeah. i meant to ask, is this movie salo worth getting?

swiss tony 05-19-2007 06:44 PM

okay, just checked salo out on imdb. don't bother responding morgue. it ain't my cup of tea. i'd still be interested in your post mortem of the three augusts. i've read a few reviews that say they're pretty dull. is this the case?

Rob Bottin 05-20-2007 02:20 AM

swiss_tony, DONīT buy Salo wtf you ever do, it ainīt worth more than 2 bucks.

No worries mate, glad to help :)

With regards to the 3 august undergrounds:

The video quality of the first two is intentionally degraded so that it looks like an nth generation dub of some sickos' home movie. General nastiness interspersed with some footage of them doing some everyday things. There are some excellent gore effects in these movies (but a few that look a little less than convincing).

However I don't think that is where the power of these films lay. I think it is more that they depict some truly depraved acts, and they try (and for the most part succeed) to depict them in a brutally, nastily realistic manner. You will see what I mean - in many Hollywood movies there is a degree (usually a large one) or sterility when depicting murders on screen. Not so with these films. It is as sickening, messy, and lurid as one could imagine it would be in real life (although I speak with literally no experience on that subject :D ).

In the third film, the main characters obviously got a new camcorder because it is shot in widescreen and not intentionally degraded. I guess that gives a little to authenticity - but we all know it is not real anyway, so I don't think it makes that much of a difference. But you can see all the gore/effects uninhibited.

I think at the end of the day, you will be disappointed with these films for two reasons that I can think of. Firstly, whilst they are powerful, there is little in the way of story and therefore there is virtually no repeat viewing value. They are more an experience than something to enjoy or watch over. Secondly, I think you will be disappointed because these films are so hyped as being the ultimate in gore/nastiness. One's imagination must build them up to a level that they can't possibly deliver on - it is only natural that we tend to imagine things that would be the most disturbing to us individually, and of course the filmmakers can't know what that would be or cater to everyone's most distressing images exactly.

Having said all that, at the end of the day if you want to experience these films, then go for it. Even though I really have no plans to rewatch them, I am glad that I did see them just to know what all the fuss is about, and because some parts of them really did make me feel very uncomfortable. However when I think about a movie that I want to watch, these wouldn't really ever jump to mind (give me a Hammer or Amicus film any day! :D )

Sounds like fun.I too shall watch this film soon.

swiss tony 06-02-2007 06:12 AM

i tried to watch this movie last night and made it to the penis bit about 20 mins in. i deliberately waited to watch it when i was drunk (dutch courage and all that) so i wouldn't be that bothered by it. i failed. i strongly advise not watching this shit. sick isn't the word. i was more disturbed by the dialogue and themes than the actual gore. you've been warned:eek:

jenna26 06-02-2007 07:52 AM

Yeah, pretty sure I will be staying far away from these films.....I haven't even been able to bring myself to watch Cannibal Holocaust or I Spit On Your Grave yet for fear they were bit too much for me. These would probably make me catatonic.....

Necromancer 06-02-2007 11:39 AM

call me a pussy all you want but the mind that dreamed up that shit should be sent to camp xray. it was just believable for me, which made it hard to watch. i watched audition, irreversible and cannibal holocaust no problems. i didn't think i had a threshold, but there it lies. within the blood soaked vomit inducing walls of the world of august underground. to be honest, i found the incest bit really disturbing, way worse thaan the hammer bit. lol, i watched the original haunting last night to balance my damaged psyche. :)

DP McCoy 06-03-2007 04:29 AM

lol. i couldn't get past the 20 minute dick cutting mark what chance do i have of getting to the 90 minute paedo-necro mark? if you took one of the shards of pure evil from the end of the time bandits and were able to convert it onto dvd format you'd have AUM. i have a plan hatching to copy AUM, put it in an envelope with an anonymous note saying 'watch at your own risk and tell no one you've got this' and then posting it through my mates letter box. it would be payback for all the sick real life gross emails he sends me that i hate but feel obliged to watch. does this make me a bad person? i bet he'd think it was real.:D

The Mothman 06-04-2007 09:26 AM

so at least you aren't disapointed like you thought you would be. seems like it affected you quite a bit.

have you watched the first one or Penance yet?
Penance is better IMO.

_____V_____ 06-04-2007 10:23 AM

These kind of movies always have their kind of viewers...so the directors who imagine such stuff are actually catering to THAT part of the audiences.

If Mordum is too much to take in, what will you guys do if you took a peek at Squirmfest?;)

eh...?:D

is that whole movie just people eating bugs?

*correction*
eating shit.

yeah, it got under my skin. the movie i watched was mordum. dunno why it struck a chord but i can say that the BWP is one of my favourites. i think maybe i find that medium very engrossing. it's easier to let your imagination kid you into thinking it's real. i can never watch those home videos of real injuries or deaths, it's too close to home. as far as being disappointed goes, this movie, IMO, lives up to it's billing. it's the real deal

No mate I wouldn't call you a pussy. This is strong stuff and to not be affected by it would be .... strange.

You are right, it's not just the visuals that make this so disturbing, it is the themes.

if it did it would be a zombie rape. has that ever been done in a movie? that's a great idea. the bit in the remake of dawn of the dead where he shoots zombie baby in the head is an all time favourite funny scene for me.

Not people...the whole movie has only 2 characters, a girl and a man. The whole details are given here (which I posted earlier)

http://www.cinemaeulogies.com/squirmfest.htm

Naturally, the girl has the "meatier" role.;)

The reviewer has summed it up nicely...its "Fear Factor" with a Class III twist.

Rob Bottin 06-17-2007 05:11 AM

AUM is just fucking crap, so goddamn boring.

Windowlicker 06-22-2007 04:52 PM

just watched it, was so fucking sick!! never seen anything like that! took me 3 sittings but i got there in the end :p
dont think i could watch it again, the thing that got to me the most i think was how perverted it was, made it so hard to watch. those actors have gota be pretty fucked in the head to even act that stuff out.
but yeah, a much deserved shower is now needed :o

swiss tony 06-23-2007 01:16 AM

here, here! i'm still a bit surprised by the people who think it's boring or 'not that bad'. clearly they're made of sterner stuff.

IDrinkYourBlood 06-24-2007 03:22 PM

I love these films! Fred Vogel is a genius. If you want to understand him better there was a recent interview in last months Rue Morgue issue. I cant wait till i get to see The RedSin Tower at the FantAisa festival this year. Its suppose to be quite different from his August pictures. An actual plot!
