argento's finest hour

just thought i'd try and clear this up once and for all. feel free to argue for and against any of the movies in the poll. i personally believe suspiria to be his best work. its a triple threat in that it attacks you visually, aurally and mentally. visually i think it is unsurpassed in its genre and that jingle is creepy:eek:

The Mothman 05-03-2007 12:44 PM

Dario didnt direct Demons, but it a whole lot more fun to watch then any of the other films listed IMO.

swiss tony 05-03-2007 01:11 PM

fair comment. i'm waiting for the demons 1&2 boxset with huge anticipation. haven't seen 1 for ages and i've never seen 2.

alkytrio666 05-03-2007 01:59 PM

Profondo Rosso, for sure.

CryptKeeper13 05-03-2007 03:39 PM

It may be becuase of the movies mentioned Suspiria is my most recently watched, but I was so blown away by it that I can't possibly see my vote going in any other direction. Suspiria, my hats off to you.

DP McCoy 05-03-2007 04:02 PM

I voted for Suspiria, but like Moth I really like Demons which strictly speaking is Bava's.Btw if you liked Demons you will like Demons II it is much of the same in more ways than one.

Deep Red

Have you seen "Do You Like Hitchcock?"It's pretty good.

Elvis_Christ 05-03-2007 04:59 PM

No Terror At The Opera or Creepers?

Mictlantechutli 05-03-2007 07:07 PM

For me, it's Tenebre, but Profondo Rosso is a close second

_____V_____ 05-03-2007 07:54 PM

Oh, Suspiria, most definitely. Profondo Rosso aka Deep Red comes a close second...then Tenebre, and Demons.

newb 05-03-2007 07:58 PM

Suspiria

Just watched Demons last week again. A fun ride

i'll check it out. funny, its one of his movies that never gets mentioned. suppose i assumed it mustn't be that good. the proof of the pudding...

jenna26 05-04-2007 12:12 PM

Huge Argento fan here, I can usually find something to love about his films. My favorite is Tenebre. I also love Suspiria, its opening is about as good as it gets, but I don't care for the ending.
Opera is another of my favorites, but I just have no idea what was going on with that ending. Some great death scenes though.

zwoti 05-04-2007 02:09 PM

profondo rosso

i just watched it last night and the ending (SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER)
would've been much better if the girl hadn't have been bluffing. then her and the killer could've gone of on a 'wave of mutilation'. i just thought it was weird how she started rolling around on the grass loving the world thirty feet away from all those cops just after watching her friend being butchered.

crabapple 05-05-2007 06:54 AM

Profondo Rosso all the way. Roast duck, baby!

DEATHH DREAMS author 05-06-2007 04:16 PM

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage...

Herman Munster 05-08-2007 08:55 PM

It's "Phenomena" in my opinion which you forgot to put on the poll.

:p Yeah, its goofy as hell. Its such a great movie until then. The first time I watched it, I was just.......confused. Now I just accept it....;) though I have to say, I don't think it would have knocked Tenebre out as my favorite, but may have come VERY close if not for that ending.

initially released as creepers

BASSI 05-09-2007 11:55 AM

Deep Red
Great movie

Elvis_Christ 05-09-2007 08:03 PM

I prefer the Creepers cut of Phenomena because it doesn't drag on and on and on and on...

Roderick Usher 11-09-2007 05:30 PM

I love Tenabre, but Deep Red is my fave

I'm sure he has a few tricks up his sleeve... maybe even a cool new flick in the works

cactus 11-09-2007 05:50 PM

Deep Red, most definitely.

Well...he is the master of the Giallo, after all :p

missmacabre 11-09-2007 05:56 PM

Suspiria for me. I still get really shakey when I watch it.

Is there still no ink or blood or tears?

Roderick Usher 11-09-2007 06:46 PM

wait'll you hear about the cast!

Phalanx 11-09-2007 06:53 PM

Haven't seen any of 'em except Demons...and I doubt his others aren't better than that.

I hope the movie is as suspenseful as you are.......

knife_fight 11-09-2007 08:25 PM

I voted for Deep Red. I like the plot more than Suspiria and I think it is more frightening than Tenebrae. I don't count Demons as an Argento picture, even though it was co-written by him.
