on HDC i keep getting some popup for 'encyclopedia.something' asking for my authorization password? i thought it was a virus on my home computer but it also happened here at work? anyone else getting this popup?

I am too, this just started for me about an hour ago.

It started on my pc today, after entering the Horror female character tournament!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! It's been happening since yesterday for me and it's been driving me fuckin' insane trying to figure out what it was and get it off my computer! I'm overjoyed that it's a site issue and not some fucked virus on my new computer!


Soooooo...... How do we get rid of it?

If so, maybe it's from a pic I linked or something. I can go through and look at all the pics, but only if that's the only place it's a problem.

Since this thread, I've only had it pop up in the franchise tourney & the actress tourney & it happens consistently every time I open either of those threads. It has not happened at all when I open this thread or the actornament.

Ok I went to Actressament and it happened to me too.

encyclopedia.quickseek.com is what is being asked for an authorisation password for.

Googling this gives links to forums where images are linked to from encyclopedia.quickseek.com - and the same thing happens.

So I think someone has posted a pic that is linked from this site, and this is why we are being asked to authenticate (because the link that we are downloading is being served by encyclopedia.quickseek.com)

That was my initial thought, but now it turns out that it's happening in multiple threads, not just the actressament.

I wonder if it's in someone's signature or something so any time they post in a thread, it becomes infected. (Until they change their sig) ???

Ok I have had a look at the source code for the Actressament final page. It seems that the culprit is .... Disease ! :)

His Collngwood football club picture in his sig is linked from encyclopedia.quickseek.com

I looked on the "Worrying Censorship Developments" thread, and it happens on the second last page. It also appears to be triggered by Disease's sig.

If you go to the "Members" section under D and check out Disease, when you click on the link to the profile, the *authorisation* thing pops up, so it's not necessarily just the signature??!!

When you click on the link to his profile, it tries to display his sig. So the authorisation thing pops up. When you cancel it, notice how you get a little blue box with a cross in it on the left of his sig, and a pic on the right? The little blue box with the cross is the link to encyclopedia.etc that is not able to be displayed because there is obviously a login required to access it.

Been happening to me since last night, and not just here, but every site I open I get the box, at google or yahoo or whatever.

I just went offline, reset my explorer settings to the defaults, did an Ad-Aware and Spybot run, cleaned off my Temps and cookies, and re-booted.


Box is gone.

So HDC has got some kind of virus now?

It's like a filthy porn site.

It's not a virus.

It is just that the image that is linked to in the sig requires an authorisation to download from the originating site.

This was happening to me earlier, every thread I went on. It stopped now, at least I hope it did.

I've gotten it in a couple threads, tooIt isn't exactly a 'popup'...I mean, yeah it 'pops up'...But, it isn't an ad or SPAM...It's just a request for authorization to view a picture that has been hotlinked to their site

Hotlinking isn't such a great idea, most places forbid it as it eats up their bandwidth...This is why I urge everyone to use Photobucket as they allow each user their own amount of bandwidth to post pictures with, and they don't have as many problems as many other image hosts (ie: Imageshack)

I can remove pictures that are linked to this one...But, if it's in his sig we can only wait until he comes in and changes it
