recommend a movie season

i'm coming to the end of my argento movie season. i just picked half a dozen or so movies and watched each over two nights in bed (mostly cause the tv is shit). if you'll humour me and just for a bit of fun, suggest a theme and half a dozen movies for the next 'season'. if i don't have a suggested movie i'll sub in something else. ps, porn or john carpenter movies are not permitted.:D

Cronenberg.

The Fly & The Brood are two of the finest he ever made.

Add Scanners, the Dead Zone, Videodrome, Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch, Crash, eXistenZ, Spider & A History of Violence. Throw in some of the Scanner Cop series and you got a great season of Cronenberg viewing.

swiss tony 05-01-2007 11:38 AM

good suggestion. thats a contender, definitely. i have a couple of those and i know where to borrow a couple more, then if i buy one or two... thanks!

Mictlantechutli 05-01-2007 01:26 PM

Renegade Biker Season!!!!!

THE WILD ONE
THE WILD ANGELS
EASY RIDER
MAD MAX
QUADROPHENIA
SHE DEVILS ON WHEELS
CHROME AND HOT LEATHER
CHOPPER CHIX IN ZOMBIE TOWN
FASTER PUSSYCAT KILL KILL
THE HARD RIDE
HARLEY DAVIDSON AND THE MARLBORO MAN
ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE

Geddy 05-01-2007 01:36 PM

Maybe a Wes Craven one, or maybe a Vincent Price one if you like classic movies.

Doc Faustus 05-01-2007 01:47 PM

50's Drive in Sci-fi might make a good season.
Black Scorpion
The Incredible Shrinking Man
Creature From the Black Lagoon
Teenagers from Outer Space
Invaders from Mars
Them!
The Brain that Wouldn't Die
Tarantula
Earth vs. The Flying Saucers
The Amazing Colossal Man
Robot Monster

newb 05-01-2007 02:08 PM

Are we looking for a movie "season".....or "session".

not trying to bust balls.........just wondering

swiss tony 05-01-2007 02:11 PM

these are all great ideas. i don't have any of the fifties sci fi or biker stuff so i couldn't have a season but if you could both pick your favourite from each genre i'll pick them up. thanks. as far as the vincent price stuff goes i do have the pit and the pendulum, the fall of the house of usher and the house on haunted hill. which other 3 would you add to that list?

The last man on earth, the bat, and i hear the abominable dr phibes is pretty damn good.

Doc Faustus 05-01-2007 02:37 PM

Phibes is amazing. If you want to do Vincent Price, find Masque of the Red Death, Comedy of Terrors, Last Man on the Earth, House on Haunted Hill and Theater of Blood. Regarding 50s sci-fi, the Classic Sci-fi Ultimate Collection is really choice, and there were rereleases of some Harryhausen films recently. I would go with Classic Sci fi Ultimate for Incredible Shrinking Man, Tarantula, and the Mole People, the Creature from the Black Lagoon Legacy Collection and the new Them/Beast from 20000 Fathoms double feature that's out. Those are the real standouts in the genre.

paws the great 05-01-2007 04:05 PM

Some "Sergio Martino" giallo?

Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key

Mountain of the Cannibal God (Slave of the Cannibal God)

Torso

The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh

The Case of the Scorpion's Tail

All the Colors of Darkness

Despare 05-01-2007 04:32 PM

One I would like to see would be pseudo-documentaries about serial killers. I can't think of a great combo right now but here's some to work with:

Man Bites Dog
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer 2 - Mask of Sanity
Scrapbook
The Last Horror Movie
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

swiss tony 05-02-2007 01:13 AM

good work everyone. you've given a lot of good recommendations for movies that never really come up and i haven't heard of about half of them. looks like my credit card is gonna take a battering this month.

garthmanorgirl 05-04-2007 05:32 PM

I'd do zombie flicks.
1) Dead Alive
2) Return of the Living Dead
3) Return of the Living Dead II
4) Shaun of the Dead
5) Dawn of the Dead
6) Land of the Dead
7) 28 Days Later (Some people really hate this film, I'm not a fan of it, but I don't hate it:o )

Hope this helps!

would the zombie flesh eaters and 'the dead' trilogies suffice?

garthmanorgirl 05-05-2007 12:16 PM

It's a start, but you've got to pick up some of the others if you don't have them:D Especially Dead Alive and Return of the Living Dead both GREAT horror comedies!

swiss tony 05-05-2007 05:12 PM

i have return... but i have yet to get dead alive. i know that makes me a bad horror fan

alkytrio666 05-06-2007 02:52 PM

Dante'sInferno 05-06-2007 02:56 PM

i just finished the argento season. it went on a little longer than i anticipated. basically cause stendhal syndrome and the demons 1&2 boxset arrived. this week i received the bat, the last man on earth, dr phibes and dr pnibes rises again so i'm starting the vincent price season next week. thanks for the recommendations. in anticipation of tarantino's new movie i was hoping to get some pointers for the season that follows this one: GRINDHOUSE. i know nothing about it and need to know which are the essentials of 70's grindhouse/exploitation. restrict your selections to 5 only, thanks.

swiss tony 05-30-2007 11:58 PM

how come nobody has responded to the last post? thats a little strange for this place especially when there's a chance to show off some in depth horror knowledge (mainly looking at crabby, rod, BR and V to name only four)

joshaube 05-31-2007 12:05 PM

Not knowledgeable when it comes to Grindhouse movies, but these are the most talked about that I would consider to fit in that genre:

Vanishing Point
I Spit On Your Grave
Last House on the Left
The Hills Have Eyes
Cannibal Holocaust
and my personal favourite...

Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

thanks mate. i have all except i spit... and vanishing point. but those two are are going on my list. particularly i spit... cause it's a horror must and i've been feeling kinda bad recently for not seeing it. there has been a weight on my shoulders in a shutter sorta way. thanks for the feedback. :)

_____V_____ 05-31-2007 06:44 PM

Havent been online lately, tony.

The best grindhouse movie IMO was Cronenberg's The Brood. Its brilliantly made, and it surely is the best work the man ever did. Also, if you can hunt em down, my recommendations are...

The Intruder, from the 60s
Thriller: A Cruel Picture aka They Call Her One Eye
Fight For Your Life
House by The Cemetery
Caged Heat

If you need more, let me know.

Despare 05-31-2007 06:55 PM

Here's six if you're looking for a somewhat varied "grindhouse" experience.

Lady Terminator
Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS
Brother From Another Planet
Death Race 2000
The Executionor
Wizard of Gore

bloody_ribcut 05-31-2007 07:27 PM

freakout, horrorcomedy

and shutter

swiss tony 06-01-2007 12:03 AM

thanks guys. this is more like it. a lot to think about there. i'll pick up a few of these and also rewatch the brood, you're right about it being a touch of class. thanks:)
