i can handle any movie i look at and am fine with gore n that. it usually doesn't toruble me at all but when i watched high tension my legs shook in one scene lol. fuckin awesome :)

really good twist too i thought, some people could predict it but i didn't he he.

what do you lot think of it?

Hate it with a fiery passion. The "twist" is a bullshit cop-out that completely invalidates everything that precedes it. Sloppy, lazy, bullshit screenwriting.

As for myself, I liked the film because of the sadistic violence and gore.
I did guess the "twist" before the film ended. :rolleyes:

If you ask me it's just your normal copped out killer movie. There really is nothing special to it in my opinion. In no way does it deserve all the hype that it received. I'm not saying I didn't like the movie, I'm just saying it's just your average horror movie with an overally used twist which I have seen in many movies already.

High Tension is a logical nightmare throughout. A hodgepodge of slasher imagery strung together without any concept of continuity.

The killer is constantly in more than one place at a time, like the opening bit with the killer in the pick-up truck WHILE the chicks are driving together. A car chase with one's self? A fistfight with one's self?

I agree with Roderick. The movie, especially the twist was poorly done and there was no thought put into the outcome. Now "The Identity" was much more in depth and was an outstanding movie when it comes to multiple personalities.

ok i just watched it here is what i think the twist did seam kind of FIGHT CLUB. also i felt the dialog was good almost like a japanese horror
but i think the reveal should have waited until the friend is untied and attacks, then do the reveal, not before made it cheap.

and i was asking questions like why cant she find the address for the gas station

but i think worth watching but not the best i have seen

also for any one that thought it was bad what would have been better

and a hot lesbian like that would not wear a bra that would have made the movie better

Is it not possible in the beginning of the film that this CRAZY girl saw an actual person and then from there in her subconsience imagined him as a killer (the head thing was her imagination)? You see, this way her imagination creates this false murderer from a source, it's not all imagined. Besides, how do we know how far this girl's psychosis goes? She could imagine herself in two seperate places easily... she's the murderer and she's simply imagining herself hiding from the beast that she's become. Instead of her hiding physically in a gas station or under a bed it's all mental, she's hiding from her darker half and visualising it which we are lucky enough to see. I may not be explaining myself well, I'm very tired, hopefully you get what I mean.

if you have to stretch this far to get some sense out of it, then you must admit there isn't a hint of logic here.

ok am i crazy i read a review of High Tention on www.ign.com 1st they say that the killer shows up when the blond is smoking out side but she was upstairs
and they say the intro on the special featers is good to watch i looked at this after i saw the film and to me it was all in french maybe i missed somthing and sub titles didn't work. maybe it was my dvd player

I don’t think it’s much of a stretch at all to see certain things as physical manifestations of her psychosis. Maybe I'm just sleepy. ;)

because she's insane dude, she thinks she's in more than one place. when it shows them driving together, it's just the girl driving in reality. they don't know eachother.

when the killer girl beats the shit out of the killer man (whatever) she's just hitting the ground with a post. she thinks she sees him.

The visualisation of the killer's alter-ego and his imagined whereabouts shouldn't be too much of a problem for mature audiences, really - though I can see why smart-arsed teenage girls might be a bit put out.

There wasn't so much complaint about the 'two-places-at-once' scenarios in Fight Club. I think the problem might be that by the time Haute Tension came along, audiences were just about recovered from being tricked like this and had adopted the 'won't fool me twice!' stance. And to pull this in a gory slasher flick! The distaste is almost understandable.

But anyone who claims they 'got' the twist before it happened is a lowdown, doggone liar ;)

why go see some one you don't know that killed your family they knew each other the crazy one was in love with her

The whole fat killer is NOT a split personnality thing from my point of view. At the beginning of the movie, Marie is in the psychic hospital, and she is asked to retell what happened. Marie takes on the role of the narrator of the story, so this is why we see the killer do things when she is not there.

She did everything, the killer is just someone she made up to justify the fact that it was not her. He can be seen perhaps as the embodiement of her murderous urges in her story, but I don't seem him as a split personnality per se. Call it distancing if you will: "No, I couldn't have done such things, a killer came into the house, I pursued him, we fought..."

These things happen very often, how many times do we hear about a murder case where a mysterious killer entered a house just to find out later that such a man never existed, and that the husband/wife/father/mother, etc. did it?

Very good point, since the bulk of the movie seems to be told as 'flashback'- this adds a new layer of reality with the chance to be distorted further.

Though of course the investigative policeman's point of view does come into it (he discovers the CCTV footage), which kind of drags the film out of the personal flashback sense.

yeah, the footage from the store clearly shows that she's fucked in the head.

so like, when the guy is at the counter and it shows the blonde girl hiding behind the shelfs. it's just the blonde up at the counter and she's imagining that she is behind her. so when he says "what are you looking at over there?"
that is never really said

I truely like High Tension. Having being bored shitless by most horror films for a while, this one had my full attention. Some of the best gore in along time and the best atmosphere in a horror film yet.

This film is on my "list of films to watch" but now Im a little worried as to what I should think about this film. Very mixed reactions. I dont think I will hurry myself to see it, so that im not disappointed but I will watch it at some point and hopefully be pleasently surprised.

I really recommend you watch it. For most people that did not like this, their main problem was that they didn't like the ending, but most of them admit they found the rest of the movie very enjoyable, with a unique atmosphere and some very intense moments....

Is there really that much dilemma over whether to watch a movie or not?

And surely if folk have varying strong feelings about it then it should make you want to see it more?

Hehe I know what you mean. I avoided all spoilers and reading these posts has not spoiled it for me. The mixed opinions does make me want to watch this film. However I was wondering how to approach this film, for example should I rush out and buy it or would the film be a let down of how excited I was about it or should I just wait and watch it when I can and maybe be pleasently surprised. I guess I just think differently from everyone else. Maybe that answers your questions im not sure but it all sits right im my head lol.

Yes, go and buy Haute Tension - whether you are offended or not by the splendid turn of events near the end, you need to see it for the gloss, the gore and audaciousness of the filmmakers.

I really enjoyed this movie,I thought it was one of the best and most brutal horror movies I have seen in quite a while,I can understand why some people hated the ending but personally I quite liked it.

Now look what you have gone and done, that statement got me all excited lol.

i liked haute tension but i think to really appreciate it you've got to know a little about french culture and history - especially with the insane lesbian thing going on

i'm a bit surprised at how negative rod was - the 'unreliable narrator' trick is right out of gothic literature (and aren't you a poe fan??) there is no point trying to track back through and make sense of it - the whole film is her 'account' of the events - only at the end we find out she's a raving lunatic/psychopath. . . this is an old trick but used to good effect here

sure, i felt cheated at the end like a lot of people - but later i realized that it was just a bit of clever narrative trickery

i like the idea of it but it has holes. why would it show the killer alone in a different area then the chick if it's her. example: him giving himself head with a head. but i don't know maybe i'm not getting the whole thing. let me know.

Well, if you follow the "she made him up" line of thought, she can make him do anything she wants when she's not there. She's just "fleshing him out" like any narrator would do...

I loved this movie. I agree with a few others who say it is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I didn't feel cheated at the end at all. I was surprised. But I really like what a few have said about the alter-ego and her basically narrating the events. I thought it was great and have always reccomended it and no one I know has been let down.

I personally thought it borrowed more from Dean Koontz's "Intensity" than "Fight Club".

In fact the stories run the same right up to the service station. I wondered if they had decided to remake the earlier 1997 movie (no gore in the original).

I did like the film and the twist at the end was good.

Haute Tension is un french horror movie , this film is very gore and i love Cécile De France (:) ) .

It's a best french horror movie with Baby Blood . A monument !

It was okay.Hated the ending though.It was retarded.

I don't care for this movie all that much; great potential ruined by lazy writing, in my opinion. if there had been closer attention to detail, and if there had been a focus on telling a good, solid story rather than going for shock value (when it wasn't even all that shocking, I saw it coming...I was just really hoping they wouldn't go that way) it could have been great. There have been many movies with this type of twist that worked really well, but for me, this one just didn't. :(
