August Underground Mordum
Has anyone seen it? If so, someone here who like it?
|
I heard it was intense, i've never actually seen it though.

i posted a thread about the greatest torture scenes of all time and somebody mentioned this movie. they compared it to guinea pig in terms of 'impact'. its supposed to be a fairly average movie with top quality gore. the person who posted about it was one of the aussies. manchestermorgue i think. ask him, he might be able to recommend some other obscure sick shit.

If it's "obscure sick shit" you want, the list usually goes (INPO) Slaughtered Vomit Dolls August Underground Guinea Pig series The Baby of Macon Salo: or the 120 Days of Sodom murder-set-pieces Aftermath/Genesis Family Portraits: A Trilogy of America Irreversible I Stand Alone The Untold Story I'm sure I'll think of more later. |
I've seen it.
It's basically meant to the the home videos of a group of young killers. They film a few day to day events along with a lot of torture/killing. It is made to look like a poor quality home movie that has been dubbed numerous times - frame moves around alot (as if the camera is being held by hand) and the picture goes in and out of focus and is full of video artefacts/imperfections. It doesn't have much more of a "story" than this. It is full of many very nasty scenes of torture and depravity. One area where this film succeeds is that it truly makes you hate the protagonists. The gore effects are very good. However sometimes it is hard to see them/what is going on because of the (intentionally) poor picture quality and camerawork. Vomiting also features somewhat throughout the film. Some of the scenes (especially near the end) and very disturbing. I can't say I really "liked" this film. It's not something that you would watch to "like". I felt bad just for watching it! There is no real storyline, and I can't imagine much repeat viewing value. However it is certainly an experience. Still, as far as scenes that have really disturbed me/been hard to watch, I think the top of my list is still the scenes of violence in the nightclub in Irreversible. I have watched those scenes a few times and still find it difficult. |
Like Swiss Tony, I enjoyed masturbating over the movie - though like ManchestrMorgue, I felt quite bad about this afterwards.
:o |
what is it about people attempting to deter you from watching horror on the basis that it is vile and putrid beyond belief that makes it more and more intriguing to the level where i find myself inevitably heading to play.com with my credit card details? okay manchester and anybody else with knowledge of the vilest of vile, if your life depended on your selecting the movie that i would find the most disturbing what would it be? ps. it has to be obscure, fuck cannibal holocaust or hostel. they're for nick jr.

Scrapbook August Underground (the first one) Red Room Red Room 2 Slaughtered Vomit Dolls (I haven't seen it but heard it is pretty disgusting) Salo (haven't seen this either but have heard it is quite confronting) Personally, I find Irreversible one of the most disturbing, but it is not obscure. |
if i am gonna buy a sick movie then i'll go with irreversible. i'd rather watch violence in the context of a good movie than just violence for violence sake.
|
I watched this and it was difficult to watch. I'd say I finished the movie a slightly different person than when I started it. I certainly couldn't say I 'liked' it but I'm glad I've seen it and as was mentioned it is top quality gore.
I'd have to go with MancestrMorgue about finding the scenes in Irreversible more disturbing, though. I suppose because it had a context, where this does not as such. And as for worst - well I haven't watched it yet but I understand that 'Men behind the sun' is also pretty fucked, especially when you know a bit of the trivia about it. |
no movie is ever as bad as people say it'll be. i'll let you know what i think

It does have some pretty confronting scenes in it (and yeah, knowing the history behind the autopsy scene makes it more confronting). "Isla, She Wolf of the SS" is not a bad exploitation flick either. Not in the same league as the AU films or many of the others mentioned here though. |

Irreversible, on the other hand, was recommended to me by someone who I didn't pick would like these sorts of films, and I didn't know ANYTHING about it before watching it. The lack of preparation probably made the impact of the film even greater (although after having watched it once, I still feel uncomfortable rewatching those first few scenes). |
Iv'e got Mordum on DVD. It's a full on film that tries to push all the boundries in what has been put on film. A bit like The Pink Flamingo and Salo did for instance. The best thing about Mordum is telling your mates that you have a snuff film that was taken by some killers and the video was leaked. Put it on and then see how far they can watch it. My mate did this to a friend of his and about 20 mins in he gets up and starts walking out saying " I just dont see the point in watching this"
I think you have to see it just to see if you can sit through it. Slaughted Vomit Dolls I have also and that is just rubbish. People just vomiting and then eating their vomit to just vomit again. "I just dont see the point in watching this" ;) |
So has anyone else seen August Underground's Penance yet?
I watched a week or two ago. I prefer it to Mordum - the picture isn't intentionally downgraded like the first two are, so you get a much clearer view of what is going on. It doesn't seem to push as many boundaries as Mordum, and I don't think that's a bad thing. I also prefer the character depiction in this one - the two main actors give quite a good impression of severe cluster B personality disorders. |
i'm building up to AUM but haven't watched or even bought it yet. just watched irreversible tonight and fucking loved it. and, (i know you shouldn't start a sentence with and but...) it wasn't as bad as it was supposed to be. AUM better be good!!!!
