Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For

Frank Miller's Sin City 2 is now in pre-production. It doesn't film until June but I thought I'd get the ball rolling hype wise.

Robert Rodriguez will be directing once again. No news yet on any co-directors. My best guest is that Miller himself will help direct again and I'm hoping for Tarantino to co-direct again.

The story will be based on the "A Dame to Kill For" graphic novel.

So far actors include Rosario Dawson, Clive Owen, Jessica Alba and apparently Angelina Jolie! So I want to know your thoughts on Jolie. Especially if you've read the graphic novels as Jolie may be playing Ava Lord.

I'm super excited about this an dI'll update you as the news comes in!

Sin City was a great film. I sure pt.2 will be good as well.

At this moment, I'm having a hard time doing anything but 'throwing the horns' for this one.

Rock on!

I'm anticipating more movies this year than I have in quite a few years. 28 Weeks Later, Sin City 2, Grindhouse... I have a feeling 2007 will be one of the better years in film AND in the horror genre for me.

missmacabre 03-28-2007 06:09 AM

All I know is that if Jolie does a crappy job in this movie I will be writing a personal complaint letter. I know the cast for Sin City was full of semi-big names and they pulled it off but Angelina Jolie might be a little too much of a household name. She'll have to do a realllly good job for me to be satisfied.

I think my problem might be that I get too distracted during comic book movies. I want them to be so good that I get picky and spend my time at the theatre wondering about "how they did that" and "that persons acting could be better".

Johnny Depp & Antonio Banderas have joined the cast.

I've never read one single word of the comics but I loved the first film. Looking forward to this one as well. Especially if Depp's in it.

Loved the first one and can't wait for this one.

That article made me both sad and happy. I really dont know about Depp. He's an excellent actor and everything but the stigma that goes along with actors like he and Jolie will just make this a big celebrity movie. I know there are other big names, sure, but I can look past that. Personally I'm hoping that Depp and Jolie opt out and make a family movie to appease their children.

At the same time, the article mentions this movie being even closer to the graphic novel which makes me so happpyy. whooo!

Angelina Jolie turned down the role of Ava Lord. It's now supposedly being played by Rachel Wiesz.

After years of rumours and false starts, Rodriguez said he and Frank Miller have begun work on 'Sin City 2.'

In fact, Rodriguez said they hope to start filming as soon as the end of the year.

"Frank (Miller) has written a script for 'Sin City 2' and it's called A Dame To Kill For," he said.

"The script is fantastic, we're still working on it and there's this scenario where we could start shooting it before the end of the year.

"This is the closest we've ever been to making it happen.

"It will be the same format (as 'Sin City') of three stories and a wrap around.

"One of the stories (in particular) has a fantastic title; The Long Bad Night so you can just imagine where that's going.

"It's a completely new, original story. You can't find it in a book."

Rodriguez said he will make the 'Sin City' sequel in 3D because he has "an idea for how that technology can be used in a way that it hasn't been before." 'The From Dusk Till Dawn' filmmaker said he welcomed a smaller studio presence at this year's Comic Con because it would give the event a chance to "get back to its roots and back to the art."

Sources close to the production have confirmed to The Playlist that Ray Liotta, Juno Temple and Jeremy Piven have all come on board the picture. Details on their characters are being kept under wraps for now, but the trio join some very good company.

'A Dame To Kill For' is chalk full of talent including original cast members Mickey Rourke as Marv, Jessica Alba as Nancy, Rosario Dawson as Gail and Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy and newcomers to the fold Josh Brolin as Dwight, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Johnny, Dennis Haysbert as Manute (replacing the late Michael Clarke Duncan) and Jamie Chung as Miho.

Production is already underway at Rodriguez’s always busy Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.

"Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" arrives in theaters on October 4th.

Sin City: Dame to Kill For’ Tanks at Box Office

Quote:

The nine years since the original sealed the fate of Frank Miller's sequel, which opens to a grim $6.4 million.

The gritty and stylishly violent sequel “Frank Miller‘s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” took a bullet to the gut at the box office this weekend.

Checking in nearly a decade after the original, the R-rated “A Dame to Kill For” mustered just $6.4 million over the weekend. That's about $10 million less than analysts had projected and less than a quarter of what the original debuted with in 2005.

Saw this last night on a double bill with the first one. Some spoilers:

It is not nearly as good as the original but still enjoyable. The parts based on 'A Dame to Kill For' comic were great - Eva Greene was the ultimate Femme Fatale. The section with marv and trampkillers felt a bit like filler - The rest of it wasn't in the comic - Joseph Gordon-Levitt was pretty good as Roake's long lost bastard son but I didn't enjoy the part about Nancy getting her revenge.

I read the comic when it first came out and puzzled by the trailer as I thought 'A Dame to Kill For' was mostly about Clive Owen's character but it all made sense on seeing it as Josh Brolin took over the part of Dwight. Manute was played by some one else too (since Michael Clarke Duncan is no longer with us).

horcrux2007 08-25-2014 03:38 AM

I think the problem was that the style isn't anything original anymore. I didn't expect it to do well.
