The 'Aliens' Thread

This thread, because i've watched it 1 1/2 times today because it is freakin' awesome, is to discuss anything and everything about the movie Aliens. Not Alien, or 3/4, just Aliens.

**spoilers. If you haven't seen aliens, just don't come in this thread, most of the stuff could be ruined for you.

The queen looks so menacing when she hisses at them, i love it. The only thing I don't like about her is the way she runs like a 'just been banged hard' ho running from her pimp.

The acting is great, but I want to kill Bill Paxton, his character is so annoying.

The alien's heads look really cool here. The facehugger scene in the middle of the night is really disgusting, those things are freakier than the warrior aliens.

I like the newly added tail slashing combat method the aliens use, especially the part with bishop and queenie at the end, gross!

The vent scene and the part where they realize where the aliens really are coming from is great! I also like when they try to close the door of the hummer thing, and the alien's big nasty fingers pry it open. I think they used the acid burning stuff too much in the movie though.

The aliens in this one look better than the aliens in any other 'Alien' film, even the original!

****I love the survival style of these horror movies. Other than aliens and Dog Soldiers, can anyone recommend a movie similar to this style? Excluding dawn, night, day, return, of the living deads, seen those.

AsylumSeeker 03-23-2007 06:49 PM

Aliens is one of my all time faves. I prefer it over Alien...slightly.

As for a recommendation, have you seen The Descent? Surprised me how good it was.

Of course, i love the Descent! Especially the part where the camera flips upside down, adding to the wild, disorienting effect. Any other suggestions?

AsylumSeeker 03-23-2007 07:16 PM

Let's see....one I really liked, but it seems to be a love it or hate it, was My Little Eye.

Posher778 03-23-2007 07:20 PM

It's survival style? What's it about?

To keep on the main topic:

I went downstairs to get a coke, and literally squealed like a pig when my ice maker went off, and the noise sounded like the screech of the queen alien, rofl

AsylumSeeker 03-23-2007 07:25 PM

It's set in an old house in the middle of nowhere, game show setup, anybody leaves, nobody gets the money. Sounds very cliche' and overdone, but this one is an indie gem that lives up. Everyone is dying, can't get out, don't know who's doing it, supernatural or roomie...pretty cool. Far better than the other like minded ones.

Ahhh..Lance Henriksen, so great in that movie! Too bad Cameron went on to make Titanic: The Turd That Really Couldn't. (Yeah, I'm bracing for the backlash from the Leo contingent...it's just a joke.)

Posher778 03-23-2007 07:31 PM

Lol. James Cameron, great guy. I really wish he'd remake Jurassic Park more like the novel, and more horrific.

_____V_____ 03-23-2007 07:36 PM

You are suffering the ACF Syndrome, Posh.:p (AliensCraziestFan if you didnt know)

Yes Aliens is quite a ride. May I go out on a limb and suggest that it had a considerable influence on the survival horror games we have these days...

Some more of those if you are looking for are...

- Deep Rising
- Deep Blue Sea
- The Relic
- From Dusk Till Dawn
- Alien Resurrection (which you admire too) etc.

In the video game arena, I think it all started from Halloween which was released in the early 80s for the 2600. Not sure though...you may have to check.

AsylumSeeker 03-23-2007 07:41 PM

Hmmm..speaking of which, Resident Evil. I hated the movie, loved the game. Most people seem to enjoy the movie, though. I'm a Silent Hill gal, though.

Did I tell you I love you already?:D

Despare 03-23-2007 07:45 PM

Pitch Black... you HAVE seen this one right Posh?

_____V_____ 03-23-2007 07:51 PM

Yes I think he has. He mentioned about it.

Posher778 03-23-2007 07:54 PM

I have it, it's ok. I neeeeed something that can compare to Dog Soldiers and Aliens though. That's a hard find....

_____V_____ 03-23-2007 07:56 PM

Predator? The Thing? Hidden? Dead Heat?

I liked Pitch Black more than Dog Soldiers (but barely, loved em' both) so what you're asking for is opinions. :)
Do you like humor to be a part of it? Tremors, Dead & Breakfast, and Slither are all great "survival" movies if so.

Horror Express may count as well...

Phalanx 03-23-2007 08:14 PM

Looks like the (?korean?) film "the host" could be worth a watch for you...

Not that it was really GOOD, but "mimic" had a similar feel.

Tremors I'd agree on...although the sequels just seemed to get more and more stupid (never saw the 4th)

Screamers?

If you wanna get stupid, maybe pirhana?

Posher778 03-24-2007 07:20 AM

Tremors is great, I need to buy that soon. I like Pirahna, and most of the othe suggestions. Humor is fine, D&B is hysterical. Hmmm... It seems like i've seen most of them. Except:

What are Screamers, Hidden, and Dead Heat about?

alkytrio666 03-24-2007 08:27 AM

Yeah, Despare's right, try Horror Express. You'll love it.

Before you ask, yes, it's a survival horror movie, yes, it has an awesome creature in it.

Phalanx 03-24-2007 08:34 AM

There's also "metal beast" , that wasn't great though...
I guess the first starship troopers had a slightly more frantic/comic version of the "feel" from aliens.

Prelude95Si 03-31-2007 01:38 PM

My fav. from the series.

swiss tony 03-31-2007 04:21 PM

can't believe nobody has mentioned john carpenter yet. try the fog, prince of darkness, assualt on precinct 13 etc, etc. how about jaws. but then, you've probably seen it.lol

Kane_Hodder 04-01-2007 11:26 AM

Aliens was a great film. A perfect blend of horror and action if there ever was one.

ferretchucker 04-02-2007 03:50 AM

in order of the aliens, my favourites went, 2, 1, 3, 4. 3 and 4 were about equal though. I love the scene in aliens when they're in the alien nest and all those people die. But newt annoyed me so much. I think the film would have been better without her.

Shadow 04-02-2007 05:26 AM

Cool you have really put me in the mood to watch Alien now. Very good film however I am unsure if I have seen Aliens even though I own it. Probably have just not as much as Alien. Think those shall be my films for tonight, I believe I have the first 3 and I need to refresh my memory. I remember seeing Alien vs Preditor in the cinema and liking it but I shall have to watch Alien , Aliens etc again to comment on which I liked best.

I am a big fan of creature horror films loved some that have been mentioned (deep rising etc).

Rob Bottin 04-02-2007 09:45 AM

Am I the only one who think it should be rated 11?

Good movie btw.

Demonique 04-02-2007 09:50 AM

I have the 5 tape vhs box set they put out some time ago. It includes 1,2,3 and 4 plus a 'making of' tape as #5. This set has the uncut version of Aliens which I much prefer to the original release. The 20 minutes they originally left out was rather important to the story. When I first saw the uncut version I found myself saying "Ah - that makes sense now.". I watch Alien and Aliens quite a bit - the others have been played a few times and are nearly new.

Miss Olivia 04-02-2007 11:02 AM

Has anybody ever seen Split Second with Rutger Hauer? I loved that movie when I was a teenager, but I haven't seen a copy in a long time......if you like monster suspense movies, that one's pretty good.:)

Most of it was scenes of the colony - you know with all the kids playing, happy little families. Then a scene where Newt's family is sent out to the location of the ship because someone from the company (Rieser) told them to go there. Scenes of them travelling there and Newt fighting with her brother and then dear old dad coming back with a wriggly stuck to his face. I said "Ah, that's why the colony was suddenly overrun." There was a bit more but the forementioned part is what I thought was important:) :)

matt stone and trey parker.lol

Posher778 04-04-2007 03:33 PM

I like Newt. She did a pretty good job for a child actor in a freaky deaky Alien film I thought.

I bought "Aliens" on VHS in (1987)I watched that movie every night for a month!

Bill Paxton is great in "True Lies" too!

Vodstok 05-08-2007 06:56 AM

Weird coincidence, i just randomly watched Aliens for no good reason the other night...

I have seen it in excess of 300 times since I first saw it New Years Eve back in '88.

I am a really big fan of the films too - I was going to try the comics - but not sure if they are worth it? Anyone read them? :p
