The Perfect Halloween Film - Your Choice?

Okay, this is not a poll. I'm curious to know, well, let's say you were God. And God could choose one movie to show on TV on Halloween night, every year. No matter what anyone else thinks, God can run whatever God wants. What film would you choose? And why?

An associate of mine saw a couple of weeks ago, you see, that I had bought a copy of ______________. He said, "Oh, you got _____________! I always thought that was the perfect Halloween film. It should be run every Halloween." And I said "Why?" and he said, "Because it has ______ and ______ and _______, and it doesn't have any _________ or _________ so it's perfect for anyone."

Well, these comments really got me thinking and now I want to know what you would pick and why. This is not a market research quiz. Well, it is but you're not supposed to know about that, so don't tell anyone. Awww, crap, I screwed up!

For all ages the perfect halloween Movie for me would be Ghostbusters. For Adult Audiences Halloween or The Haunting(1963).

alkytrio666 03-04-2007 10:53 AM

The Evil Dead or Cat People (1942), though The Haunting (1963) is a good choice, too.

The_Return 03-04-2007 11:21 AM

The Wolf Man (1941)

Not my favourite of the Universal classics, but easily the most entertaining IMO.

VampiricClown 03-04-2007 11:23 AM

Dracula (1932) or Halloween....

? Everywhere I've looked it up, it says '32.

IMDB says '31, but the sites I buy from say '32, or they used to. Weird...

alkytrio666 03-04-2007 11:38 AM

It's '31 for sho'.

massacre man 03-04-2007 04:40 PM

Halloween, because it's Halloween.

I thought it was, but the sites I've been to before all said '32, so I assumed they'd be correct.

Oh well, I'd have lost at the horror trivia game.

mordrid 03-04-2007 05:23 PM

I would have to say Halloween.

TCM: the beginning

bwind22 03-04-2007 10:27 PM

For the primetime family hour... (7pm-8pm)

The Halloween that Almost Wasnt (aka The NIght Dracula Saved the World)

Easily one of the most cheesy, yet entertaining hour long Halloween specials ever made.

After that, when the kids go to bed or go to count out & sort their candy... (8pm-11:30pm)

I'd run Halloween & Halloween 2 back to back, uncut, uncommercialed, and uncensored.

Then for the late night crowd (11:30pm-1:30am)

I'd show the original Texas Chainsaw uncut, uncensored & uncommercialed.

I could go with that, though I would replace the The Halloween that almost wasn't with Peanuts The Great Pumpkin

Aha! In that case, you must not have seen The Halloween that Almost Wasnt! I highly suggest trying to check it out if you can, but good luck finding it. It took me three years of looking for it to find it pirated on DVD (It's only been released on VHS & is now OOP) for less than $30.

Charlie Brown would be alright for the kiddie hour too though.

crabapple 03-04-2007 11:06 PM

Ah, yes. I have read about The Halloween That Almost Wasn't. Never saw it, but that sort of thing is up my alley.

I was wondering if anyone here had seen Monster Mash: The Movie. It ain't no classic but it is interesting and fun to watch, mostly for the wrong reasons.

mordrid 03-04-2007 11:10 PM

Another perfect fit for family time would be The Monster Squad.

bwind22 03-04-2007 11:36 PM

It's an hour long after-school special sort of movie from the early/mid-80s starring Judd Hirsch as Dracula. It's cheesy & campy, but I loved it as a kid and still get a kick out of watching it every once and a while.

I remember watching it and enjoyed it, but I have been and always will be a Peanuts fan. It's a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is just a classic.

bwind22 03-04-2007 11:40 PM

You are now a member of the highly elite club of people that have actually seen this movie. Welcome. :)

mordrid 03-05-2007 12:17 AM

bwind22 03-05-2007 01:30 AM

knife_fight 03-05-2007 09:42 AM

for primetime I would show Mad Monster Party then after that (9 pm or so) would be Halloween, b/c it is Halloween after all. and maybe the episode of Tales from the Darkside called "Trick or Treat" and maybe the movie of the same name. and if I could find it, the movie/special "Mr. Boogedy" or the sequel "Bride of Boogedy" would go in there somewheres.

mordrid 03-05-2007 09:46 AM

oh hell, Mr Boogedy. I remember that one. It was one of the World of Disney movies. I have it recorded on VHS somewhere.

really? that is pretty cool. I've only been able to find a taped VHS version on eBay. when I investigated further, I found out that Disney can't release it because of some sort of litigation. I knew it had to be something like that because I signed a petition to get it released to dvd and when I signed it it already had over a million signatures, and we all know how much Disney loves money.
