Movies you hate and get a lot of shit for/Most overrated film you´ve seen.

Well do you have any? I get a lot of shit because I hate A Clockwork Orange:mad:

I mean, it´s a silly and boring movie from 1971, what´s so fucking masterpiece with it??

Doc Faustus 02-21-2007 09:00 AM

Here it goes: I didn't like Citizen Kane. It's self indulgent, the characterizations sometimes feel thin and forced, it's too long and the Rosebud trope is manipulative, and in some ways emotionally below the belt. Welles always bothers me because he's so consciously trying to generate a masterpiece that for me, it robs the end result of its significance. There are things I liked a lot about the Trial, which to me is a superior film, but I don't think he's the best.

VampiricClown 02-21-2007 10:05 AM

I didn't care a lot for Dawn Of The Dead.

Papillon Noir 02-21-2007 10:25 AM

I hated Saw 3, I thought it was totally lame. Everyone keeps saying that it's the best of the series, but that movie just had so many problems.

Roderick Usher 02-21-2007 10:30 AM

Haute Tension

The Flayed One 02-21-2007 10:33 AM

I get a lot of shit for Jaws, Jurassic Park & Scream. They all three do have a common thread, though. They were all WAY overhyped before I got the chance to see them, and in the case of Scream I had already had the ending & a lot of other scenes ruined for me.

Unaboner3000 02-21-2007 11:02 AM

The Exorcist and Halloween are a couple of "classics" that I thought were mediocre. But what can I say....I've never really enjoyed Satan movies or the typical everyday slasher films.

I personally loved Dawn of the Dead, but the person that said they didnt think it was all that great probably hates zombie movies. Everyone has their own particular tastes in film (and books).

ABnormaL 02-21-2007 11:09 AM

I also hated A Clockwork Orange. I had to turn it off not even halfway through. Okay, people can argue that I should have watched it all, but I just couldn't take it anymore, it just sucked for me.

I agree.

I do respect George A Romero's legendary horror history, but the only two films of his I like are The Dark Half and Day of the Dead.

alkytrio666 02-21-2007 04:12 PM

Damn, I do love most of these! Citizen Kane, Dawn of the Dead, The Descent, Jaws?!

I think, obviously, the Saw trilogy is a bit overrated and Hostel flat out sucked. But those are both cliche hate/love films.

Hmm...Ooh! Ooh, I know!

The Royal Tenenbaums. Wes Anderson's a cop out. "My humor is different; if you don't think it's funny, you just don't get it." Yeah...or it isn't funny. Believe me, I know dry humor, I know black humor...but his movies just try too damn hard to be different. The Life Aquatic was a little better, but not much.

a mccuaig 02-21-2007 06:06 PM

Hmm, blair witch project, hated it! I didn't really like Clockwork Orange as well. What people bug me for not liking the most is "Rocky Horror Picture Show". I fell asleep the 1st and the 2nd time I tried to watch it. I give up, not my type of movie I guess. Didn't like Saw either.

alkytrio666 02-21-2007 07:25 PM

I love The Blair Witch Project and A Clockwork Orange. They're both blazingly original films.

The_Return 02-21-2007 07:32 PM

One word:

Jaws

They were both original yes, and I really enjoyed one of them. :)
A lot of my friends can't believe I don't like the Jackass movies...

The Mothman 02-21-2007 08:18 PM

The Exorcist. Biggest let down ever. friggin laughable.

Manic1511 02-21-2007 08:26 PM

the blair witch project 2 -.-

The STE 02-21-2007 09:17 PM

I only hate North. But some 'classics' that I was dissapointed in:

Rashomon (a solid 4/5 that I was expecting to be a high 5/5)
Haute Tension
The Beyond (this thing gets pimped to no end, and it SUCKS)
Dreamgirls (what's with all the hype? It was a 2 hour movie that felt like 3 hours and had, and I'm not kidding on this, 30 fucking musical numbers. 30 full-length musical numbers in a 130 minute movie, and a lot of them were the same. Okay, fuck it, I'm making a thread about this one)
I'll think of more later

roshiq 02-21-2007 09:22 PM

High Tension
TCM (originaL)

bwind22 02-21-2007 10:32 PM

Phantasm sucked! (All of them!)
The Ring & Ringu
The Ring 2 & Ringu 2
The Grudge & Ju-on
The Grudge 2 & Ju-on 2
The Thing (It wasn't terrible, just terribly over-rated.)
Eraserhead (This had to be one of the most godawful pieces of shit I've ever seen.)

Additionally, in general, I think most ghost movies suck. (But 1 that I did like a lot was The Frighteners.)

Bwahaha! Yea, man... they were all garbage...but I assumed we were talking about movies the vast majority of ppl consider to be great. I have never exactly seen a big fan club (or any fan club) for those Phantasm movies.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 02-21-2007 11:10 PM

Lord of the Rings (all of them)
The Ring
Evil Dead (all of them)
The Exorcist
Jaws

Oh ask around here at HDC. They are very highly thought of. Until you just spoke up, I was under the impression that I was the only person that hated these pieces of shit.

great film did you see the longer cut ?
Not sure, but probably not. I saw it in the theatre & then my bro got the VHS when it came out. I didn't notice any difference in the two viewings & I can only assume that they were not the extended version.

bwind22 02-21-2007 11:28 PM

How much extra content is there?

bwind22 02-21-2007 11:42 PM

I'll check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.

The original or the remake? If you didn´t liked the 1978 version I can only say, join the club.

Unaboner3000 02-21-2007 11:47 PM

I have a friend that absolutely hates Gladiator. WTF! How can any dude not like a friggin' movie like Gladiator? I think some people just disagree to disagree.

That I won't do. I haven't seen any of the MOH series yet and I'll check them all out at once or buy the season set, but I am not gonna just rent one here & one there. I wanna see them all.

braveheart is great mel did a great job on it and the gore my god for an R movie ...will never happen again .
Yea, Mel got away with alot with Braveheart...and with Passion. Being a big-time hollywood director/actor I am sure helped him getting the R ratings. That being said...Mel has said (about both those films) he would have liked to show even more blood and guts, to better show how war/torture really was in those particular eras. Whew! Glad someone somewhere talked Mel out of showing us what he really wanted us to see.

WHAT?!?!?!?! Scarface? Boring?

It's long, that's true, but I can't even see how anyone could consider it boring at all. I thought it was EXCELLENT!!!!
