Vodstok 01-23-2007 06:18 AM

Works for me, keep em coming

Also, i know games like Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark have multiple sequals, feel free to include them, they all count as sparate games, and i know some sequals are classics, and some suck.

newb 01-23-2007 06:48 AM

!?!?!?!?!?....where's F.E.A.R.?

The Mothman 01-23-2007 06:55 AM

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Phantasmagoria
The 7th Guest
The 11th Hour
Black Stone Chronicles

BTW, my lawyers will be contacting you about copyright infringement.

Vodstok 01-23-2007 07:04 AM

I made a disclaimer for my tournaments a couple of years ago since they were basically Bwind's idea. Would you like a similar disclaimer?

I FORGOT FEAR?!?!

I'm officially retarded. I think i may need more coffee, but definately, there are some issues here.

Well, at least i am pretty....

Thank you, Flayed. You're a man after my own heart.

Fatal Frame...quite spooky.

The Mothman 01-23-2007 08:08 AM

Splatterhouse.
pure classic, and scary as hell back in the day.

Vodstok 01-23-2007 08:11 AM

Oh man.... i remember that :)

never played it, but pined for it horribly.

How about Gargoyle's Quest for the gameboy? many horror elements to that game.

The Mothman 01-23-2007 08:12 AM

Soul Reaver
(original)
truly excellent game. impale people on spikes, throw spears though people, a bunch of cool ways to kill people. definetly should be a nominee.

.

i used to play it all the time when i had the Genesis. it was sort of the "forbidden fruit". the game your parents desperatly didnt want you to have.
:)

stubbornforgey 01-23-2007 08:25 AM

no one mentioned final fantasy

im suprised you brought these up. two excellent games that had fallen under the radar. I think hat Blood 2 would have done a WHOLE lot better if not for the "half life monopoly" in '98. blood 2 shocked the shit out of me when it came out. ultra-violent. body grinding, taking peoples hearts to recharge health, crazy bloodthirsty insane monsters and gas mask wearing baddies.

plus it has Caleb. excellent character. total badass

Vodstok 01-23-2007 08:32 AM

I only ever played the blood 2 demo, but i loved it. I have always had a soft spot for the "industry and hell" concept, and blood did it differently from Doom.

Monolith knows its horror games. First the blood series, now FEAR.

Vodstok 01-23-2007 08:54 AM

I am surprised no one has mentioned any horro rthemed board games yet. There must be at least one.

Er... it's been out for like two years... It really sucks though. Not recommended at all.

For board games, Arkham Horror.

it's not listed as out on gamespot......its an upcoming ps3 game.

Haunted 01-23-2007 12:26 PM

No, it's out. I bought a copy, and before I played it, I loaned to my bro. It's about this island in Japan that gets possessed or something; there's this red fog everywhere. All the villages are undead, and you've got to figure out why and how to stop the evil sort of miasma. It's out. They may be remaking for the PS3, but they did release it for the PS2.

@Vod- At one time there were many horror themed board games. Be damned if I remember 'em. I know that White Wolf (fuck ups though they are) had a few. You could always go for the "old stand by" Ouija Board. It is a board game and was never intended to be any sort of an occult device.

Ouija board sounds like a good nominee to me :)

Keep em comin.

Do any of them have any horror elements in them? if so, i'll add them to the list.

Up to 43 titles now.

stygianwitch 01-23-2007 01:59 PM

There was a board game when i was a kid called Haunted House, you had to build the house (a bit like in Mousetrap) and ghosts, ghouls etc would jump out at you... don't know whether it's still available tho... it's been a while since i was a kid :p

Disease 01-23-2007 02:33 PM

did you ever play nightmare?

Despare 01-23-2007 02:45 PM

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
Persona
Diablo
Oblivion (lots of Vampire stuff)
Morrowind (especially after the expansion pack for werewolves)
House of the Dead
Nightmare Creatures
Grim Fandango
Deception
Fallout
Shadowgate
Dark Wizard
Dungeon Keeper
Deja Vu (a little more mystery/thriller)
Gungrave: Overdose
Twisted Metal: Black (darkest in the series)
Breakdown (sci-fi horror w/an amazing story)
Killer 7
D
Shadowrun
Maniac Mansion

I'm sure I'll think of more, those were off the top of my head.

noctuary 01-23-2007 03:14 PM

Add Kuon and Clock Tower to the list. Also can't believe that I forgot Persona. Many, if not all, of the Shin Megami Tensei games have horror elements to them.

Despare 01-23-2007 03:19 PM

Oh hell, no Dead Rising yet. Oh, and Shivers... and Boktai. Just remembered playing Alien Vs. Predator for the Jaguar, what a badass game for the time. Going around as the marine and torching things was sweet and sneaking up on people as the Predator was brilliant. One of the few good games for the system.

Haunted 01-23-2007 05:02 PM

Nice call on Diablo, Despare. I fondly remember skipping class to finish up a level or two... and the expansion pack... Ah de memories...

I have to mention it, because I loved it as a kid, "Haunted House" for the Atari

I used to have The Aliens Trilogy or Aliens or some game based on that series for the PS2. It was pretty entertaining and dark and spooky as it should be.

There is one on the tip of my brain. It's not Bloodrayne (which could be added on account of watching a breasty redhead slaughter Nazis) nor is it Wolfenstein. It is a game based on killing undead Nazis.

Gabriel Night (or possibly Knight... dunno...haven't played/seen it in a very long time).

suprised you mentioned that. i stumbled upon it when i was 7, never got to play it, but it looked pretty cool. rather underground game.

Phalanx 01-23-2007 07:57 PM

Max Payne
Painkiller
Flashback - The quest for Identity
Deus Ex
God of War
Farenheit AKA Indigo Prophecy

....All have what I'd consider either horror/thriller/gruesome elements, not really "horror" games, but I think they belong in damn near ANY gaming top 100.

More horror-ish
5 Days a Guest
Nightmare creatures was pretty good, not sure about the sequel though.
Carrier on dreamcast
Res Evil 0 seemed great from what I played.
Sword of the Beserk, also cool.
Illbleed - never knew what the fuck was going on, but very creative.

GetrDone 01-23-2007 08:37 PM

Final Fantasy 7 had somewhat horror elements to it. Well I'm also biased as this is my favorite game ever.

Also I'm not sure but Don't think I saw THE SUFFERING mentioned.

The ending has always stuck with me. :)

Vodstok 01-24-2007 04:56 AM

Wow, all good additions. NICE work Despare, huge list.

We are up to 84 titles now.

The Flayed One 01-24-2007 08:02 AM

Just out of curiousity, are you going to make this list all nice and sticky worthy where people can write blurbs? Are we going to come up with a big list and then vote?

I'll help if you want, but just be warned I have a lot of time constraints right now.

I planned on trying to stick to your established format with it. I would absolutely appreciate any help, but no biggie about time constraints, i live with more than i ever wanted myself.

The Mothman 01-24-2007 08:11 AM

Land Of The Dead
Alien Vs. Predator original (damn scary)
Heritic
Unreal (original '98, had one of the scariest moments ive ever expirienced)
The Suffering
The Suffering: Ties That Bind (both extremely under rated games. huge amounts of entertainment value)
The Thing
