Your Favorite DVD Supplements etc

Here is a topic I don't think i've seen...we're been through lots of DVDs odf all kindsa crap. There are some discs, and disc sets, which have either a great number of good supplements, or just plain good supplements. There are also DVDs with crappy supplements or way too few. I wanna hear about your favorite DVDs not in terms of the movies but their SUPPLLEMENTOLE FEATURES.

My personal fave, and I have mentioned this disc before, is the Milennium Edition of Night of the Living Dead in that red plastic case. That disc is wonderful! With two commentaries and a real truckload of additional features...it is mindblowing. And it features a 5.1 reprocessed "stereoized" soundtrack for the film that is really a knockout.

so tell it, show it, what's you fave.

I quite like the Rocky horror picture show set..
it has the dvd
and cassettes of the original show
and audience participation

The Re-Animator millenium edition has some really snazzy special features.

Also, the new(er) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid collector's edition (2-disc) has some amazingly insightful documentaries and commentaries on one of my favorite films.

Shaun of the Dead (at least this version) had extras that put most dvds to shame...behind the scenes, really good stuff on effects, out-takes, talent profiles, er...the guys immitating sean connery, michael caine and the beetles...trailers, games, like ?4? commentaries....just a CRAZY amount of stuff. Seriously, best value dvd extras I've seen on a dvd.

Other than that, in general I like a good blooper-reel/outtake, and a few trailers (for different movies) on there...I think a dvd extra is a great advertising medium, and it's not shoved in your face, you look when you want to look.

Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition

Two documentaries and three different cuts of the movie!

crabapple 01-08-2007 08:10 PM

Yeah...that Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition is pretty crazy. That's a lot of stuff in there!!!!! More Dawn of the Dead than most people would need!!

How dare you say such a thing! You can never have too much Dawn of the Dead!!

The DVD release of A Mighty Wind has a lot of crazy stuff- about 15 music videos by the fake musical groups that were in the film- all produced as if they were from different time periods, plus a full length feature on the concert they staged for the movie- showing all the performances in full length. Plus commentary track, and a feature on the making of. Really a great set of extras that gives you a greater appreciation of the movie.

There's a plethora of great stuff on the Alien Quadrilogy DVDs.

Mose decent asian releases, such as Limited editions come with tonnes of extras, sadly a lot aren't subbed.

Phalanx 01-09-2007 12:45 AM

The Star Trek related dvds Ive hired seem to have HEAPS of different extras.

Elvis_Christ 01-09-2007 01:33 AM

I really like the House Of 1000 Corpses DVD. I dunno all the extras are just overkill to me but whatever I'm still stuck in the VHS age!

The_Return 01-09-2007 04:05 PM

Havent actually say down to watch the features yet, but the 3-disc Maltese Falcon set looks pretty damn sweet. Bunch of featurettes and such, plus two extra movies!

Hellboy has a pretty cool DVD, too. Kinda wish I had held out for the 3-discer, but the 2 disc version that I have still has some great stuff. Really indepth making-of stuff (A documentary thats longer than the movie itself!), character info files, and (my personal favourite) a bunch of old UPA cartoons:D. A couple of Gerald McBoing-Boing, plus a really cool animated version of The Tell-Tale Heart.

In all honesty I dont really watch alot of features...I have alot of DVDs that sound like they have good ones, but not alot that Ive actually watched.

I doubt there would be a set of all his stuff, I kow for a fact that a bunch are owned by different companies. I have a set with 4 of his movies though: Pet Sematery, Dead Zone, Silver Bullet and Graveyard Shift. Only cost $25:)

Elvis_Christ 01-09-2007 05:21 PM

There's a set on VHS with pretty much everything minus Sometimes They Come Back and maybe the Dark Half. It was one of those TIME-Warner kinda mailorder club things.

crabapple 01-09-2007 05:31 PM

There is still cool stuff to be gotten on VHS. There were a few tapes put out that had special features also, and those were pretty cool. There was one "Day of the Dead" VHS tape that featured a documentary that's not available on DVD, can you believe that?

Don't go in the woods is a bad movie, but the DVD from Code Red is real nice.:)

crabapple 01-09-2007 06:01 PM

I actually went to a DVD signing for that Don't Go In The Woods movie. And I watched some of the movie afterwards. It was a hoot!

paws the great 01-09-2007 06:07 PM

Don't go in the Woods is so bad it's funny.:D

AmericanManiac 01-09-2007 06:23 PM

I liked the Twitch Of The Death Nerve menu how you could skip to your favorite kills.
