Frosty Needs HELP!
hey guys, well im writing this collection of fairytales...and im adapting them for adults so they are lot more scary, gory, sexual and erotic then the originals and i was wondering if anyone knew of any good sites that had information on writing horror and/or fairytales...i just need some tutorials and suggestions to kick start things...i need to get one book finished so i can send it off to my publisher.
thanks xxFrostyxx |
yea i saw the trailer for it the other day on a DVD me and the bf are going to go and see it when it comes out...it looks awesome and i didnt realize it was a book
xxfrostyxx |
excellent thats what im going for with my stories..i want them reallt very dark and sadistic
|
all fairytales are sick and twisted...i mean seriously Hanzel and Gretal, Little Red Riding Hood etc....but i want to make them so kids have nightmares about them lol
im so sick xxFrostyxx |
so true i love writing evil dark gothic novels, i alwasy seem to be more creative when i know there are no boundries or rules i have to adhere to

Um since this is a horror site,... are the fairy tales gonna be horror like? cause if they are heres a hint. sexual erotic type horror stories = zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's man thats whats killed off the vampire genre. thats my opinion |
well thanks for the opinion...but not all the stories are going to be sexualy active...some maybe but not all...and with stories like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and the such there will have to be some erotic exposure if you want it to be different from the original....
but im going more for gore and gothic scaryness then anything else xxfrostyxx |
thank omcdave...i really appriciate that support :)

Haha, oddly enough, I'm working on the same type of thing. :p
|
Have you ever read the original, uncut Grimm tales? Some of them get pretty dark and violent. Also, check out Strewelpeter for some ideas.
|
thanks heaps Flayed...i've got a kids version of the Grimm's Brothers but i have yet to get one of their uncut books, i'd love to though i love the Grimm's Brothers im trying to go dark like them.

For general writing advice, I've never seen anything tha can hold a candle to Stephen King's ON WRITING. The first half is an autobiography of his writing life and the second half is a style manual. Really fantastic, practical advice in that one.

i've been looking for that, well acutally ive been looking for the ebook as at the moment i dont have very much money and i cant just go out and buy stuff....but i cant seem to find it

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ayne/Grimm.jpg Here's the description: Grimm's Grimmest Murder, cannibalism, incest—not exactly kid stuff, right? But the 19 uncensored stories in Grimm's Grimmest reveal that German brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm weren’t always writing for children. Their original version of "Cinderella," for example, shows the wicked stepsisters hacking off their toes and heels to wedge their feet into the golden slippers. And we won't even tell you what happens to Rapunzel! Fiendishly illustrated with full-color plates. 142 pages. Quote:

You All Forgot The Company Of Wolves
Hey there Frosty(waves). Back in the mists of history was movie Called In The Company Of Wolves. A weird coming of age cum dream take on The Red Ridinghood myth. I was really weird & erotic with lots of sexual overtones but not much sex. So anyway heres a link to an analysis of the film. http://www.geocities.com/za5tar/thecompanyofwolves.html
Have fun & Iam old enough to have seen this in the theaters. Even though I had to sneak in. |
thanks Soloman Kane, i appriciate the help...you should check out the link that BloodRayne gave me..i posted my adaption of Little Red Riding Hood there...it was just a quick idea and i think i'm going to elaberate on it for my fairytale collection.

Check out Angela Carter
Iam fimiliar with the book that bloodrayne posted having read it during my Neil Gaiman Mortal Gods, Death, Sandman comicbook reading days. Anne Rice was kind of a june come lately to this lady's works. http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/acarter.htm
Also check out The Fables comicbook series. The writing is interesting & quick. The subject matter very adult oriented but without the horror element. It might be helpful too you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fables_(comic) Have fun with it. In college I had a very progressive film professor & I did a paper on the dream world as the gateway to horror. Films like Phantasm, The Shining, An American Werewolf In London, Susperia, The Fog, & alot of others have an elemental dreamlike quality to them where the audience can't seem to decide if its a dream or reality. Alot of the fairytales also have this quality. Some silent films have this in spades. The Silent Beauty & the Beast is a great example. Its sets & such were unreal. |
