My wife and I got to watch the original spec ed DVD at Halloween time this year-was the first time she'd seen it...I'm gonna say that done right...this could be a good idea...only because of the way she took it in with the effects, and how it could be done now,etc...hopefully some way to work Bruce into the film-gas station attendent, driver who nearly hits them head-on...something just to have him be apart of it...Kutcher is a very competent actor...don't judge him based off of That 70's show...and on the same token, done wrong could be bad. Just a thought...the film series is great as it is now, but I would actually look forward to seeing this one, much like I did TCM and Amytiville.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 12-05-2006 09:59 AM

I think ashton kutcher is ok, but this is who I'd cast:

Yes, I actually like that movie...the 2nd was crap, but I liked the first, loved the story.

oh barry watson. 7th heaven was my show when i was little. however, im pretty sure.. that they shouldnt remake the movie. i think thats the answer rather than who should play ash.

Let's hope so.

The last couple posts (excluding Christ's) are the exact things that make me dread a remake of the legendary film...people are already discussing pretty-boys to play Ash.

God help us.

tcardenas 12-06-2006 04:34 AM

i tried to stop it.. i dont think anyone could top bruce campbell as ash. i mean, seriously. he IS ash.

urgeok 12-06-2006 04:34 AM

how about Viggo Mortensen
i bet he could do a good ash ...

I said exactly the same thing way back when...he's got a look and build similar to a younger BC, and think the comedic timing he usually employs (buffy, psycho beach party) could have him coming out on top in terms of Ash-isms, hybrid of wimp and smartass, just what we saw back in ED1.
But hey, probably won't happen.
As for the movie itself, as per always, I'd prefer a reimagining/reinvention than a straight remake. They COULD (if it were good enough) actually relaunch the franchise in a completely different direction, but either way, for one film, or a series, I'd hope they'd keep it dark, gritty, gore filled, un-cg-fucked, and as comedically morbid as possible.
As for the general anti-remake bitchers...if you're gonna see it, see it, if you're gonna let the fact it's a remake spoil it (or ridiculously enough "spoil the original") for you, then don't...it's not like you could make it go away without killing someone, hm?

Despare 12-06-2006 06:51 AM

I heard, and forgive me if this was posted before, that Ash will not be the central character unless Bruce played him. If it wasn't Bruce, it would be another char. I might dig Jason Lee as Ash...

right. i really dug A History Of Violence. However Viggo almost seems a little too serious for the part.

PhilnEdee 12-07-2006 08:25 AM

Hey, after fighting all of those things in the RINGS series...a few zombied out babes in a cabin would be a piece of cake for Viggo.

PhilnEdee 12-07-2006 09:22 AM

Just heard what I had feared most:
New Ash will be none other than....
PATRICK SWAYZE

Disease 12-10-2006 12:47 AM

That's just not funny!

the_real_linda 12-10-2006 12:33 PM

yeah unless you go back in a time machine and take him from dirty dancing

Ive heared that as well.

If they dont have Ash, Im 100% A-Ok with this idea. New characters, tweak the story just a tad, heavy involvment from Sam and Bruce (which both have already promised)...I think it could turn out damn good.

Haunted 12-11-2006 04:32 AM

I've read this thread so many times, and have weighed everything very carefully, but I'm still not sure of how I feel about this. Maybe it was this put together videa I once saw called "Bruce Cambell: Man of Action" done up to some Oingo Boingo song.

I just can't make myself jive with this. How can you honestly consider Vigo Mortensen to play Ash?

I guess my question is: Are they keeping the intention of a honest to goddess horror film, or are the keeping the over-the-top style of the original?

Phalanx 12-11-2006 04:46 AM

Some side-story/partial sequel/"continuation in another place" to the originals might be alright...probably better than a remake...something like what "the thing" game did.
As for taking out the Ash character, sure...as long as the entire cast isn't made up of annoying little unfunny teenagers. I think Krotcher would fuck ED, as Ash, or not...trying to be funny, never pulling it off.
You gotta have the right kinda cast. Nick Brendon, I think would be good as Ash or otherwise, and Nathan Fillion (firefly, serenity, slither) could work really well too...as for females...the chick in the second Resident Evil movie would be alright as a "survivor", maybe Ali Larter in there somewhere, Brecken Meyer might work as demon fodder, that blonde guy from freddy vs Jason seems alright in horror type stuff...there's a few I can think of...
Of course, if there's no "Ash" main part...having a BC cameo/small role in there would be alright.
