Nu-horror?

Nu-horror (a term coined by Cheebacheeba)...

Definition (provided by Egekrusher)...Not original, not scary, just an amalgam of recycled garbage created for the sole purpose of lining the MPAA's and crew's pocket books.

Examples (given by Moonsorrow and Egekrusher)...Queen Of The Damned, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Final Destination, and Jeepers Creepers...

So, what would YOU consider "nu-horror"?

I'm going to say...Fear.com and Darkness Falls...

ds_spoon 12-29-2003 09:37 AM

i would say queen of the damned, scream even allot of other films would be classed as (nu-horror)

I'm sorry, but Cheeba did not coin the term nu-horror. That one beens out a bit. I myself hate the term. I think it sucks to lump a bunch of movies into the same shitty category. Nu-anything is something people associate with crap, at least I do. And I like Jeepers Creepers. I don't want it associated with the likes of I Know What You Did Last Summer or Final Destination or Urban Legend. It's just one of my peves. I just hate the term "nu."

bloodrayne 12-29-2003 10:22 AM

Thank you, Avenger...I knew that if I were to be corrected, it would be by you...I'm glad that you liked Jeepers Creepers...I'm sorry that you do NOT like Nu-terms...LOL...:D

I didn't mean to sound like I was correcting you. I just HATE Nu anything. It's just such a derogatory phrase to me. Some bands that are thrown into the nu-metal category I actually like and I feel they are unjustly lumped in with the likes of Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. Like I said, it's just a peve. How about Faux-horror? Hehe.

Shinobu Kasagi 12-29-2003 10:31 AM

Scream 2 and 3

Sam The Egg 12-29-2003 10:32 AM

Scream is not Nu-Horror because it's not horror. Just because almost all the new horror directors and writers can't see past the surface of the movie is no reason to lump it in with all the quasi-ripoffs that are horror movies.

Well, I just hate the term "faux"...It reminds me of "faux paus", of which I commit so very many...LOL...

Avenger...You HAVE to know that I am kidding, I happen to be in a very playful mood right now...as a matter of fact, I am laughing my ass off...LOL...hahahaha :D :D :D

ds_spoon 12-29-2003 10:38 AM

the reason i agree with calling it nu-horror is because its just not the same anymore friday the 13th and nightmare on elmstreet are horror but the reason i call it nu-horror is because its for a differant audience not for us loyal fans but the people who watch 1 film and decide there hardcore but dont know anything about old school horror..

and avenger if you dont like calling resent horror films nu horror why do you catagorise old school horror as old school??

just saying whats on my mind:)

_Leatha_Face_ 12-29-2003 11:16 AM

i thought jeepers creepers was pretty scary the first time i saw it so i would consider this 1 a real horror movie

Sam The Egg 12-29-2003 11:35 AM

Well, you just said what I was going to. So you're not missing anything, just overlooking it.

Old school is not derogatory to me. And it encompasses a long period of time. Old School can be anything from the start of the genre to the early 90's. It's a damn broad generalization.

meetthecreeper 12-29-2003 04:33 PM

I dont quite understand the meaning behind the term Nu, so in respect to that if I dont like a film I will express the following-This movie licks phelgm off a dolphins blowhole- and if I like a film I will say-this film does not lick phelgm off a dolphins blowhole. Hope this solves the confusion surrounding my feelings about various films.

:p :p :p

i call nu-horror teen horror. i thought that jeepers creepers was good and shouldn't be thrown into that category. the creeper is the closest thing to a horror icon that this generation has.

now u think like me:D thats the point i was trying to get across:D

ShamSham04 12-29-2003 07:42 PM

I can understand people categorizing movies like Zombies, Slashers, Werewolfs, etc. But it just doesn't seem right to put certain movies in Nu-Horror, according to its definition.

Nu-Horror shouldn't be a majority type thing, because every opinion matters, and there's no right or wrong to an opinion.

I can understand it if each person had their own Nu-Horror type category. That would be fair, and less arguements would be had. I don't see the point of Nu-Horror since almost every horror movie imitates another. You might as well add Wrong Turn and the TCM remake to the list... or is my opinion wrong?

ICPloser 12-29-2003 07:50 PM

the term nu-horror is just used by people that wanna seem like there Horror Movie Buffs, its like those Fat guys that call wrestlers by there real names, They just wanna seem better then others

Hmmm... no.

I used the term nu-horror to describe the teeny bopper generation of horror movies that are out there. For instance, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, even Jeepers Creepers. This is my opinion, and my opinion only. You can view these movies as you want to. I view them as garbage.

Haunted 12-30-2003 09:04 AM

I'll take N for a thousand

Okay... so we're staying away from "nu..." So, can call it, Neo-horror? You know everything's "neo" these days: NeoPagans (yeah), NeoNazi (boo), NeoModern(only on Wednesdays)....take your pick.

(Note that "neo" has nothing to do with those fucking Matrix films)

Also....I really wanted to see Darkness Falls...but didn't. And....I really didn't think "Jeepers Creepers" was all that scary. So what made that movie scary to all of you that enjoyed it. It is possible that I am lame to good flicks (but not entirely so, or I wouldn't be here).
