666=The Omen

Recently i went out and bought "the omen" without even having seen it. i thought it would be a good horror/religion movie...and i was right. it was good. maybe not as scary as the original or as scary as i thought it would be, but it still a great movie.

(SPOILER ALERT)

I have to admit though, it was very hard for me to believe that the mother wouldnt have died from the fall she sustained. i mean come on, three stories down, onto a probably very very very hard floor. i seriously think the back of her head would have caved in or at least crunched very hard. but it was still a good movie, and kind of makes me not want to have children.

but meh ill have them anyway and raise my own little nation of hitlers. lol KDNG!

anyone what does everyone else think of "the omen"?

The Omen remake is terrible - one of the worst horror remakes I've seen. The original is so much better.

LadyFrost 11-22-2006 09:58 AM

havent yet seen the original...i think i might go and hire it from the video store...so its better then the original?

i have to admit i one of those peple who see the remakes first and then doesnt see the original....i did it with the ammityville horror, texas chainsaw massacre, the shinning, etc.

Blasphemy.

[shakes her head and cries into her hands] I KNOW I KNOW!!! i have got to stop doing this...its terrible and sacraligious! but it is the way i have been programmed...the media of today tells me new is better!!!

but i should go and get the originals of these movies just to see what im missing out on. but i refuse to watch the original of "the exocist"! i watched "the exocisim of emily rose" and i was terrified. and ive been told thats the tame sequel or remake, or whatever they deem to call that movie.

I just watched the original Omen last night, and I think that the main thing that makes this one so much better is the music. Sounds silly if you haven't seen it, but you'll know what I mean once you see it.

Im sure i will...if you ever watch a horror film with me (doubtful) you'll notice that when a really scary or gruesome scene is coming up i'll cover my ears. This is because the music in horror movies makes the scare. I can handle watching a scary, bloodboth, rip your throats out with a meat cleaver, movie as long as i dont hear the music. The music is the part of the movie that scares me the most.

Like you said, the music makes the movie. I should have rented the original "Omen" when i got movies last night...totally slipped my mind.

I watched the original Omen the night before seeing the new Omen

it was shit , i walked out (that it the first time i ever walked out of horror movie)

Sukie 11-30-2006 02:00 PM

The remake was pure crap. I don't know why they bothered. You at least cared about Gregory Peck and Lee Remick. It was like the remake of Psyco - almost scene for scene. What for?

Geddy 11-30-2006 02:08 PM

Did'nt like the remake.I saw the original on tv the other night and taped it,It was so much better,I also did'nt like the mother in the remake she annoyed me.

tcardenas 11-30-2006 04:31 PM

the remake of psycho was HORRIBLE. just putting that out there..

as far as the omen, it wasnt bad. i liked the original way more. they just basically did everything in the movie the same, which isnt fun. if you remake it, change something at least a little, not too much, but a little. the kid was cute though.. just like the kid in the original. evil kids are fun.

PhilnEdee 11-30-2006 04:44 PM

at least these remakes intorduce the originals to a new group of people...such as the case in this thread...and there not all bad...Omen remake... horrible...Psycho remake...a great big practical joke on the public, TCM remake-great...Amytiville remake...great Hills Have Eyes remake...superb....

tcardenas 12-01-2006 04:25 AM

thats true, the amityville remake wasnt bad and either was the hills have eyes ,but those are exceptios. most remakes arent good..

i would offer that the remake of psycho wasnt horrible - it was just the most extreme example of 'unneccessary' i could ever imagine.

it was shot from the same script - the direction was the same, the performances were good .. there was just no need for it.

the omen suffered from a much limper performance from the stars - most noteably Thewlis - who should have been perfect for the roll but someone decided to change the entire thrust of his character.

PR3SSUR3 12-01-2006 08:03 AM

Yes, I think saying "The Psycho remake was shit" has next to no validity whatsoever. It wasn't shit at all - people who say so are confusing outrage with artistic failure.

Agreed on The Omen - it wasn't a bad remake at all, but the performances, for the most part, didn't cut it (Thewlis particularly).

i was going to pass over the remake and only saw it when i heard thewlis was in it ..
i though it was perfect casting .. he can play a nasty little bugger like the best of them..

but they changed the part - he wasnt a nasty character at all in this version ..

tcardenas 12-01-2006 12:20 PM

i still think the remake of psycho is horrible. thats the only version of the movie that one of my friends has seen and she doesnt believe that its not the original.. thats pretty bad.

Again, the good part of remakes...introduces some good horror to a new age....
Like Urge said...Psycho remake was a big joke on us all...It's also in the bargain basket at Wal-mart for $3.88

Nocturnal 12-01-2006 05:53 PM

I loved the original. Great atmosphere, superb acting and as someone has already stated, the musical score is amazing.

The remake...not too good. Not only was it a tad redundant as the new Damien was not half as scary. He looked like an annoyed and annoying brat more than the son of Satan

tcardenas 12-02-2006 06:38 AM

yeah, but why do they need to remake them to put them out for a new audience? couldnt they just release special editions and maybe.. like they did with grease, put it back in the theater for a bit to reintroduce it? i mean, i dont see how remakes are putting it out for new audiences because.. then the new audiences are misinformed of how great a movie really is if they only saw the remake.

I think that would work...I know some people who saw Halloween at the theater at Halloween time this year -who had never seen #1

WOW, it would be so cool to see some of the oldies at the theater!

Katrina 12-02-2006 04:31 PM

To be honest, I've seen a lot of crappy horror flicks in my time, and this one wasn't as bad as some have claimed it to be. True, it didn't really succeed on all levels, but it was by no means a bad movie.

tcardenas 12-02-2006 05:10 PM

i would LOVE to see all the old horror movies back in the theater.. i think that would be awesome. especially if they were cheap. i hate the prices theaters charge.
