Motherf*cking Security Stickers
I am incredibly enraged right now, due entirely to the fact DVD companies insist on sticking several "security device enclosed" stickers all over the plastic layering on the DVD case. You are required to remove them, in order to even obtain the disc inside the case. Yet they are nearly impossible to remove. And often when taking them off, they stretch the plastic layering, tear it, or leave massive amounts of sticky residue everywhere. Motherf*ck!
I just purchused several DVDs, one of them being Jeepers Creepers, and while taking off the sticker (carefully), I found it melded into the actual plastic layering. So here I am with a mutated case, which is now ruined. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my DVD collection - and this is incredibly annoying. Anyone else feel this way? Any way to remove this residue / stickers safely? What are your methods. I feel like going out and rebuying the fucking DVD. |
The "Creature from the Black Lagoon" purchased from BestBuy was the one that made me snarling enraged. The goons, not finding a convenient place to put their little inventory control sticker, inserted the damn thing onto the printed cardboard artwork on the inside, underneath the clear styrene window. I had to pry the window up with a slim tool, hoping not to crack it, and carefully rip the sticker off the artwork. Well, it tore the artwork. The way they did it, there was no way to win--removing the sticker meant damaging the product.

Is it such an annoyance that you'll stop buying DVDs?
didn't think so |
Thankfully at Music Zone they remove the security devices in the shop when you purchase :)

Just buy a pack of new cases?

Intense rubbing of a paper towel, then soaking a section of the towel in cooking oil, repeating the intense rubbing, and then rubbing once more with a dry section removes the gunk. I test it out, worked fine. Makes the plastic covering a little hazy where the spot was, but removes most of it and nullifies the stickiness of it.

Man, I wish I had thought of using Goo Gone. That is a great idea!
|
Out of all the different regions I buy, it apears that only R1 come covered in security stickers, so to conclude..... americans are a bunch of thieving scummers. :D
|
i dont mind so much the stuff left behind from the stickers - what pisses me off is when you dig your fingernail into the actual clear plastic of the case while trying to get the edge of a particularily difficult sticker - and your fingernail leaves a groove or pull because the sticker wont come up..
i mean - i get over it - but its annoying. post scrip : after a sticker has been applied - it should be called a stucker. |

it happens to me a lot
and their are some dvd's you can't replace the cases.... like my hills have eyes dvd with the cool blood cover... their is so much sticky crap on that from the price tag sometimes I get them and the sticker doesn't come off all the way, so the half sticker is still on the case.... I hate that (In that case I do just switch it to a new dvd case) if you don't have goo gone, just use peanut butter on the sticky area.... let it set for about 10-15mins and rub it off with a paper towel.... and you're good! |
They got a little gizmo that does it now. I just use a razor knife.
Now if I could just get my arthritis medication open. |

The real interesting part is Why would a perfectionist buy "Jeepers Creepers"?
