okay im really confused:confused: is this movie real, fake, or based on a true story? ive heard alot of things and im sure the true horror fans will know the truth lol so help me out:)

They fabricated the whole thing. They were actors, it was directed. nothing for real about it. i think the blair witch legend was fabricated also.

It was clever, and I know quite a few people who hate it because they were duped by it.

Easily one of the greatest horror films of all time IMO, but sadly it's 100% fabricated.

Some of the actors have gone on to make other things...Madhouse (2004) is a good one, starring Josh Leonard.

The campaign for this film was brilliant in all senses of the word. I agree, definately one of the best horror films, and if not, easily the most creative. There was so much work involved in making this film seem real; look it up. Too much to spit out in this post.

I loved this film too. Saw it many times in the theatre also. They did a great job with making everyone think it was real. I don't think the legend of the Blair Witch is real though. That movie just creeped me out cause I love to go camping often and it would be freakn wierd if you kept going in circles and being stuck in the woods, then your friend disappears and then you find some wierd broken down house.... I would not go in there. :rolleyes:

it also holds the distinction of the most profitable film in history.

Thats the big benefit of indie films, if it takes off, you are golden :)

My thoughts exactly. Brilliant filmmaking. I look up to the movie as inspiration. Genious campaigning.

Wholy shit. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. It's stupid how a lot of people hate it simply because it wasn't "real". I mean, honestly, how fucking dumb can you be?

I don't hate it for the fact that it wasn't real, I just thought it really sucked, and was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen IMHO...That being said, I thought the marketing behind the film was brilliant...

I agree 100%...the hype leading up to this farce was awesome.

people thinks its real because the actors went under deep cover after it was filmed and were totally inaccessible in much the same way as cannibal holocausts actors did. it had the same effect then; there was a lot of question marks over its authenticity. a great marketing ploy. almost as good as those old horrors where the audience were forced to sign disclaimers before they watched. who thinks that shit up? genius!

I prefer the sequel, :eek: (Book of shadows) myself.

No. I was serious. Don't Like Blair Witch. Does nothing for me. I have watched it 3 times and still find it a cure for insomnia.

I agree Book of Shadows suck and it was probably the worst sequel ever, it wasn't even relatively close to the original, it was IMO stupid and lame.

I'm glad someone agrees with me, I just don't get what people see in this movie, AT ALL....Like I said previously the marketing of it was brilliant, but the movie itself sucks ass...

I didn't like it at all either. I found it very boring. I might have felt different had I not known it was fake before I watched it. I guess knowing that took some of the interest out of it.

It was creative, I will give them that. But you could never do a movie like that again. Once you have done a stunt like this once, that's it.

True, was very good idea.
Now everything is "Based on actual events"..but the events are usually something like...a car drove by this house one time...look at Wolf Creek...all specualtion.

I loved this one, but I don't think it holds up on repeat viewing very well. The first time I saw it, I thought it was damn near perfect - scared me as much as any film I've seen in my adult years has. But on repeat viewings, the characters become more annoying and other flaws become apparent.

The Blair Witch Project is a unique entity to itself. Loved by horror fans, despised by almost everyone else. I had the pleasure of being thrown right into the middle of the whole fiasco. I saw it when it was first released at a small arthouse theater in Seattle. It was quite the experience. Then, when the movie blew up, the theater I was working at had it on 6 or 7 screens. It was sold out for almost a week straight, and I've never seen the general public have such animosity towards a movie. Normal movie goers and even casual horror fans despised it. Many were calling it the absolute worst film ever made.

As far as Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows goes, I seem to be in the minority when I say I absolutely loved the film. The backlash it gets is almost akin to Halloween III. I think if the filmakers would have simply called it Book of Shadows, it would have went over a lot better.

It was more of an event film - something that demanded the communal effect of watching it in the theater. I loved it when I saw it, but it falls flat on television in the confort and safety of your own home.

I'd love to see this one get a rerelease on its 10th anniversary - 2009

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2.

I saw this yesterday and feared for the worse; I didn't actually like the Blair Witch Project, but was surprised that I actually liked this one - a whole lot better.

The only problem with it is that it was a sequel - I think it could have made it as a stand alone flick, without the curse of the tag - sequel, hanging around its neck, which is why I've never watched it before.

If I had the choice to watch either of them again, (for the purests out there) sorry but book of shadows would defineately be my number one choice.

i thought it was a pretty spooky movie, more so because you never really see it which makes it creepy.
