Fave holiday movies

What movies holiday movies do you watch every year? For me its, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation,A Christmas Story, Trapped in Paradise, and of course, Its A Wonderful Life. So, what do you guys watch? Or do you just stick with horror all year? =)

The_Return 11-04-2006 07:51 PM

As far as movies go, I dont really have any Christmas traditions. I usually try to catch the classic Frosty cartoon, and last year I watched Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time....otherwise, thats about it.

The_Return 11-04-2006 07:57 PM

I forgot, haha...last Christmas Eve, I checked out Santa's Slay:p

GetrDone 11-04-2006 08:18 PM

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation,A Christmas Story, Trapped in Paradise,Ernest Saves Christmas and all the classics like frosty, rudolph, santa claus is coming to town and several others. christmas is my favorite time of the year and I make sure to enjoy all the festivities.

knife_fight 11-04-2006 08:21 PM

the Life & Adventures of Santa Claus.
I've mentioned it before, but this weird, pagan tale of Santa Claus, based on the book by Frank Baum (author of Wizard of Oz), is my favorite holiday season special.

The grinch stole christmas and every christmas eve since I was little my family and I always watch It's a wonderful life. I think that may have to be my favorite christmas movie.

urgeok 11-04-2006 10:14 PM

all of them .. literally

Roderick Usher 11-04-2006 10:19 PM

Me too

I love Christmas. It's almost as great as Halloween.

Sure, my religious beliefs have changed since my Catholic upbringing, but the season and the sentiment still ring true to me. Like a family tradition that exists because it makes us a better family.

GetrDone 11-04-2006 10:26 PM

Man how could I forget about How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Thats a gimme!

GetrDone 11-04-2006 10:27 PM

November's not a bad month either what with all the turkeys and stuffing we get to eat. Thanks Mom!!!

National Lampoons' Christmas Vacation

Nightmare before . . .and A Christmas Story (you'll shoot your eye out!)

bloodrayne 11-05-2006 06:36 AM

A Christmas Story...I'm not sure why, but we just HAVE to watch that one.

Nightmare Before Christmas...I ALWAYS catch myself singing 'Making Christmas' when I'm wrapping presents and decorating...It happens automaticly...The kids tease me about it.

The Grinch Stole Christmas...Always been one of my favorites, ever since I was a little kid.

Alex watches Ernest Saves Christmas and Christmas Vacation over and over again...Seriously, every day at Christmas time...

Seri used to be hung up on The Christmas Toy...She would sing the songs.

Noel is pretty cool, too...Seri had named one of our red, round glass ornaments 'Noel' when she was a little girl because of that movie. She still remembers it when we put it on the tree.

Ouch sorry.......

the usual suspects...Christmas Vacation, Christmas Story, old Miracle on 34th st., White Christmas, and Its a Wonderfule Life....same with Halloween, its the BnW classics that really appeal to me for family movie watching....been thinking of turning our game rrom into a movie room...anyone done this (not necessarilly transformed the game room) but made a theater room?

crabapple 11-05-2006 07:06 AM

Well, the Alastair Sim version of "A Christmas Carol," for starts. That gets put in once or more than once. Laurel and Hardy's "March of the Wooden Soldiers" ... even though it's not a "great" movie it has a nice feeling to it, so that gets a spin around the old VCR.

Charlie Brown specials if I can get 'em.

And always some monster movies..."King Kong" has been popular with me for Thanksgiving because it used to play on TV on Thanksgiving, year after year. And I try to watch zombie movies over the holidays, this is very important, and they have to be really cool and gnarly ones. Zombie films and holidays for me go together very well. The combination has a warm and friendly feeling.

well, i dont rally dig christmas for myself - never did (due to my own personal past) but i do everything in my power to make sure my kid enjoys it as much as humanly possible... his enjoyment is something i can enjoy :)

urgeok 11-05-2006 07:10 AM

suprised no one mentioned Nightmare Before Xmas' (unless i missed it)

standard fare at our house ..

spookshowbitch 11-05-2006 07:16 AM

I can never get enough of "A Christmas Story". It plays on Christmas day for 24 hours straight. I even own some of the "action" figures and a string of "Leg Lamp" lights!
And for October, nothing says Halloween like the movie "Halloween"! It's a classic.

urgeok 11-05-2006 07:21 AM

for anyone who likes A Christmas Story (and I do)

try to find Phantom of the Open Hearth. also by Jean Shepherd
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0202527/

this predates A Christmas Story.

it features Ralphy and his family when Ralphy is coming of age ..
made for TV in 1976 - it is incredibly hard to find. But worth it - it's hilarious.
actually much funnier than A Christmas Story

Oh yes!...I never really could understand why I loved these, on Christmas AND Halloween...They always made me feel 'warm' and kinda happy (oh god, how lame is THAT?! :D...But, I don't even care because it's true)...

I honestly think it's because when I was little, we didn't have 24 hour cartoons...We only had Saturday morning cartoons until noon, and some that were on early in the morning before I had to leave for school...The Charlie Brown specials were on at NIGHT...It was very special...Completely dark outside, with the livingroom lit up in an orange/red, soft technicolor glow, that only a cartoon can make...It was very comforting, yet exciting at the same time...

cactus 11-05-2006 07:23 AM

Pretty much the same here...A Christmas Story, Rudolph, Frosty, It's a Wonderful Life, I love watching those with the kid. And Christmas Vacation.

Trilby Wearin' Maniac 11-05-2006 08:41 AM

I went to a cinema screening of It's a Wonderful Life on Xams eve once, it was really festive. Other than that, whatever's on tv, like Santa Claus the Movie or Home Alone 1/2

the_real_linda 11-05-2006 11:44 AM

nightmare before christmas and some film bout a young boy who wants a bb gun and gets his tongue stuck to a pole outside of his school....cant remember the name of it but i love it....so much that i cant rember the name of it :)

newb 11-05-2006 12:27 PM

Pretty much the usual ones.

Sometime I like to throw in movies set at Christmas time but not what you would call "Holiday Movies".....i.e.....Lethal Weapon, Die Hard.

crabapple 11-05-2006 02:13 PM

I like Rudolph too, that's a really fine Christmas special.

Haunted 11-05-2006 02:55 PM

Wow! Um... I will watch A Christmas Story if I catch it. I own A Nightmare Before Christmas, but I watch that because I like it and whenever I feel like it.

Those are the only two, because I um, don't celebrate Christmas. I'd like to see a good Solstice movie, but I don't think they have one unless I've just missed something indie or Irish or British.

@ Urge...I thought she was joking, too:eek:

Spallalala 11-05-2006 05:07 PM

Can't stand holiday movies personally. I just hate the whole christmas thing anyway.

I always try and avoid watching tv around this time of year cos it gets all soppy and shithouse.

Elvis_Christ 11-05-2006 05:11 PM

Die Hard....

1beastieibe 11-05-2006 09:41 PM

Charlie Bown is my favorite, but I also love The Santa Claus 1 & 2
and Vice Versa an old 80's movie with Judge Reinhold and Fred Savage. A Year without Santa Claus is good too...with Mr Green Christmas and Mr. White Christmas...Anyone know what IM talking about?

The Flayed One 11-06-2006 08:02 AM

Just about anything but Nester the Long Eared Donkey.

crabapple 11-07-2006 06:54 PM

I totally forgot about Santa and the Three Bears (1970). For years I couldn't find this movie, used to watch it around Christmastime because it was so damn cute and heartwarming. Found it on DVD a couple of years ago and now it's a holiday fave once again!
