I just wanted to drop a quick post to introduce a new Horror forum called Scary Mind. What will make this forum different is we will be giving away Horror swag once we get up to speed. Giveaways will be free and available to its members.

Since this is a new forum there are no posts or members, hence the post here.

Please stop by and start posting.

I wish I could start off with giveaways but I just can't afford it right now. Who knows if things don't get start I may have too.

Also, something I will be doing is taking the money from ads and rolling it into the prizes on giveaways. This, over time, means the prizes will get bigger and better.

Fair enough. Honestly I never thought of looking for a Horror forum until I decided to put one up. After putting it up I started looking around to see what existed, which is too bad since I am a big fan of Horror movies (much to the dislike of my G/F)

I think what I may have to do is start a giveaway from the beginning. So I will drop the 1000 users thing and start with a 100 users and then start the giveaway.

You love horror movies and you enjoy discussing horror related topics with other people who have knowledge of them and enjoy them, too...

Yet, instead of thinking there might possibly ALREADY be an established horror forum or 2 for you to join, that already HAS members, you could only think to create your OWN horror forum in order to discuss horror with like-minded individuals...

So, after you created your forum, you realized that you would need other members in order to be able to discuss these things, and not just be sitting there staring at your page all by yourself, so you FINALLY considered that there MIGHT already be a horror forum or 2 from where you might be able to solicit some members for YOUR forum...

Damn...It's too bad that you didn't think about the possiblity that there might be at least ONE horror forum already in existance on this big wide internet web for you to join, before you spent all the time, trouble and expense of creating your own forum just to discuss horror...It would have been SO much easier for you to just join OUR forum, where we already have members to hang out with and talk about horror...

OH...But then...You couldn't make any money off of advertisers that way:rolleyes:

How do you know that it will be DIFFERENT...If you didn't know that there were any other horror forums to begin with?...Different than WHAT?

I am a developer and needed to test the forum software and also love horror. As I was thinking of the type of forum to put up I came up with the Horror theme since its a topic I like so much. If the horror fails or succeeds I still needed to run tests on the software.

I'm hoping that people join and start some great conversations but either way I will be there and keep working on the forum and the forum software to make it better.

As far as the ads. I put up a lot of free websites and give out free software and the ads are a way to cover my bandwidth costs. I have always beleived in giving back, hence the free software and tools. Ads are a way to cover bandwidth costs (and bandwidth is all it covers, no extra).

I understand your apprenhension on me suddenly appearing and hope you can get by it to join my forum but if not I understand.

That makes much more sense than the way you previously described your intentions...

Once the forum was all setup, I started to think of ways to attract users. The giveaways are that way. Basically, all income from Ads above the bandwidth costs (which is typically very low for a forum) will be going to the giveaways. The thought being is as teh forum grows so does teh giveaways.

I think I know... It begins with bull and ends in shit.

It still doesn't change my initial description of my intentions. Basically, I created a theme that I like.

So then, the reason you created your website, was to learn how to create and operate a website...Okay, I think I got it...

No. The initial reason was to test some new forum software. During the process, I thought out what I enjoy and what type of community I could get involved in. I wanted to create something that I had enough interest that I would want to advance the software.

I understand you think there are ulterior motives in my descisions but there really aren't. I just wanted to create a place where it advances in its features based on how users use forums - always room for growth in how forums operate. Creating a place where I had interest was the best way to do this.

Okay then...More power to ya...But...It's extremely difficult to cold start a forum and get it to grow to and sustain the kinda numbers you're talking about...Especially if you're hoping to obtain members from already firmly established forums...Our guys don't ever really stray very far, and almost never for very long...You're offering marijuana to crack addicts...lol

It's also more difficult if you can't obtain a 'subject' dot com...Like Horror.com is...

I just think it's going to be kinda difficult for you

All good. I know its difficult and going the horror forum way of telling about ScaryMind.com might be stepping on toes. What I will be doing is making posts, sorta talking to myself, and once I get some income from ads from other sites, try and come up with a great initial giveaway.

The giveaway is no strings attached. Just be a member that made one post thats sounds like a person typed it and not some bot.

Also, don't worry as I will never post another topic on my forum. It was a one shot deal. Including when I get to the point of a giveaway.

With my luck, crap is the word, piles and piles of it. :(

@ScaryMind so is there a forum or is just a pretend theoritical one. re: the vanishing email.

Not sure what happened with the email. I have tested the signup and email fearure it has been delivered everytime without a problem. Also, since other members have signed up and received the email it would seem to be something on your end - might be a spam folder problem?

I've checked, nothing , not even spam. I'm just wondering if it's AOL or my Spam settings whatever.

I know I'm a member but can't log on coz of the email prob.

I think you need to look at better ways of promoting it.

I decided to kill the forum idea since there are so many well established horror forums around. What I did instead is turn it into a news resource pulling in horror news from various websites around the world.
