The next HDC 100

As promised, here's the next installment of HDC lists. There were other great suggestions, but I decided on this one because it's a little different than the others.

We're going to put together a list of movies a lot of people may have not seen or heard of. Obscure, unheralded or underappreciated. The HDC 100 Hidden Gems, if you will.

Here's the difference, these will not be in any particular order. Just a list of 100 great movies most people might not have seen.

So how do we ultimately decide what makes the list and what doesn't? Well, it'll be up to a panel of judges, hand selected by you.

Please email a list of 10 movies you think deserve to make the list, along with a list of 6 HDC members you trust with the awesome responsibility of making the final cuts. You may vote for yourself if you like. Who you voted for will not be revealed. I will pm the members who receive the most votes. If one of them does not want to help, a pm will be sent to the person with the next highest vote.

Your lists can be emailed to [email protected]. If you feel you absolutely have to, you can also pm me your list so I won't stalk you from all of the info I get off of your email account.

THE DEADLINE IS 11:59PM, EST ON NOVEMBER 3RD, 2006!!

After the list is complete, you will most likely be asked to write blurbs about some of the movies you selected. If you do not wish to be considered for a blurb, please say so in your email.

Thanks, and looking forward to another awesome list!
-Flayed

Added note: any movie on the HDC Top 100 list will not be considered!

_____V_____ 10-24-2006 05:17 AM

hmm...this sounds interesting but...it could be controversial. But its an interesting idea, so I ll be working on this list all day and send it to you by tonight.

The_Return 10-24-2006 05:21 AM

This is gonna be awesome!

I'm about to PM you a question...dont worry, I'll email my list though.

The Flayed One 10-24-2006 05:32 AM

I guess I should clear something up. You don't need to vote for me. I'll be the supervisor and helper, kind of a silent 7th judge. If they have trouble deciding, I'll cast a vote, kind of like the Vice President of the US does for the Senate. Plus, I want to be free and open to any questions the others need help with.

Other than that, though, it'll mainly be them compiling.

_____V_____ 10-24-2006 05:33 AM

So the main 6 judges will be HDC members other than you, Flayed?

hmm...aight.

Yep. I'll still be the one doing the actual list in the same manner as the HDC Top 100.

Speaking of which, movies on the HDC Top 100 will not be considered for the list!

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 05:47 AM

I've sent mine. It was hardto decided because many of the people on here know about nearly every horror movies.

Hopefully some of mine get in.

urgeok 10-24-2006 05:49 AM

do they have to be horror or can they be any 'genre/exploitation' film ?

_____V_____ 10-24-2006 05:52 AM

And...if they are to be horror..."made in USA" only or other countries also?

I'm fine with exploitation. For instance, I wouldn't have anything against Caligula making the list. However, I'm pretty adamant about letting the 6 judges decide from the list. The only movies I've declared off grounds are the 100 on the HDC Top 100. If you send something that's obviously not horror related in any way, though, you'd most likely be wasting your vote.

The Flayed One 10-24-2006 05:54 AM

They can be from any country you want.

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 05:59 AM

can someone send me a link to theold one? Inever saw it.

The Flayed One 10-24-2006 06:05 AM

It's stickied. If you'd like to re-submit your list after you read it, you can.

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 06:06 AM

oh thats just great! Half of my best ones were on the original!

I'm a pretty reasonable guy. Just send me a list with different movies.

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 06:22 AM

nahh, just keep the ones that arent on the old 100 list and ignore the rest. It was hard enough deciding on them ones!

GorePhobia 10-24-2006 07:04 AM

sent in my list and vote

i hope i get picked to be a judge :)

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 07:06 AM

do we also qualify 'Gem' as something that actually is a decent film ?

there will definately be a list of shit people havent heard of - for good reasons .. there should be some kind of standard - a bar for quality set..

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 07:22 AM

well if it's shit, people wouldnt put it as the best 100

urgeok 10-24-2006 07:23 AM

i'll reserve comment until i see your list

Well then, they obviously werent that obscure:rolleyes:

Working on my list...I have a few pretty obscure ones sitting on my shelf waiting to be watched, I'll have to check them out before sending mine in.

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 07:26 AM

this has really been buggine me.

What is that on your display picture?

It looks like a polar bear with a gremlins face and ears.

urgeok 10-24-2006 07:29 AM

the challenge here is 'unknown'

a lot of the people here specifically have had extensive exposure to horror films that most anyone else would find unknown.

so i'm thinking - is it unknown to most of the people here that qualifies it ?
In that case you'd have to go with mostly older films that a lot of the younger folks havent seen yet. (and those will likely be known to the older folks)

this is much harder than it looks .. i've only come up with 4 so far.

for example - a year ago i would have said Cemetary Man .. but its been talked a lot about here..

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 07:41 AM

It doesn't have to be completely unkown. It can also be overlooked or underappreciated. Cemetery Man would have been a fine choice, except that it was on the HDC Top 100.

I don't expect every movie to be something so obscure that it's been completely lost in the annals of time. I'm not saying that it can't be, either. That's another reason the judges are there. They very well may declare something too well known to be a hidden gem. For instance, I'm sure no one would consider Child's Play obscure. A good movie, yes, but maybe not the best choice for a Hidden Gem

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 07:45 AM

i wanna bea judge

urgeok 10-24-2006 08:24 AM

ok .. mine are in ..

very difficult - but i'll probably think of 20 others later..

too bad there couldnt be an incremental list posted .. for a judging contest duplication wont be needed... so it would be nice to know what has already been suggested

good point - would it skew the results too much if we just posted our lists here? (i'm happy to play by the rules- just asking) (also can we pm you our list?)

You are more than welcome to pm me your list. As for duplicates, they should be fine, and I'd imagine the judges will be more likely to consider a movie for the final list if it's been suggested by more than one person. I would expect I'll get at least 20-30 lists, so having more than 100 to choose from shouldn't be a problem.

ferretchucker 10-24-2006 09:17 AM

GRRRRRRR RAAAAQARGH HOOOOOOOOOWL HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Are you scared yet? :o

The Flayed One 10-24-2006 12:49 PM

Gotten a couple of great lists so far. So far, there's also been one person who's on 99% of peoples list as a judge. Oh, the drama.
