I need help

okay Im going to have a party on halloween night and I need help coming up with movies, I really really just want to scare the shit out of everyone, I cant do the exorsist because 2 of my friends watched the exorsism of emily rose and refuse to even give another exorsist movie a chance. I really dont want slasher movies and I need the movies to be at least kind of close to this year so they might at least recognize the stuff.

the hills have eyes (2006 unrated version)
dead alive ( okay this one really isnt scary but its funny and it has a lot of gore so they wont mind)
dead birds

and thats about it, can anyone give me some suggestions

Bob Payne 10-15-2006 04:37 PM

we don't watch too many movies at the parties i go to.

noctuary 10-15-2006 06:28 PM

Session 9.

crabapple 10-15-2006 08:27 PM

night of the living dead
the original of course.

Madison 10-15-2006 09:31 PM

Why don't you go for something like Re-Animator? It is not recent (1985) but is a movie that I think would keep up the pace with a party.

The Flayed One 10-16-2006 07:14 AM

Little Werewolf love:
Ginger Snaps
Dog Soldiers

Little Zombie love
Dawn of the Dead (I suggest the original, but the remake is also excellent)
28 Days Later

Little Vampire love
Night Watch
Bram Stokers Dracula

Little Original Monster love
Pumpkinhead
Jeepers Creepers

Mmmm... yeah, maybe. It was just the best recent horror film I could think of.

well, it really depends on who you're watching with.
if it is a couple of people capable of absorbing an atmospheric film that doesnt feature a bloodbath or a carchase every 10 minutes then maybe its a good choice (and if no one is really tired - you need to pay attention to this movie)

but you have friends who are easily distracted and thick as a post - you're going to go nuts trying to keep them entertained - or explaining every little thing to them..

in a party situation .. best to get something that is just visually interesting - people are going to be talking through it ...

Ever heard of "Evil dead"? ;)

PhilnEdee 10-16-2006 08:09 AM

I'm out on a limb here, but I'd say Halloween is good to have on in the background for a Halloween party(the Thing works too...or the original Fog...I think Carpenters music holds up well in a party atmosphere)...is this a movie viewing time, or an actual party? Session 9...great movie, probably won't liven up any party though.
Another thought, for fun and if people will not be sitting and watching...get like Frankenstein...any of the old BnWs...

1 and 2. leave Army of Darkness alone unless your friends are a little geeky. It lacks the horror and isnt quite as accessable.

I totally agree about the lack of horror. Still love the movie though. :)

But it´s the other 2 i´d recommend. Especially "Evil dead 2".

Vodstok 10-16-2006 09:11 AM

I actually saw AOD before i saw the original movies. I loved it as a dark fantasy, but didnt get any of the refences.

2 is definately the best

For fun halloween movies, i would also recommedn the shining, the blob remake

Angra 10-16-2006 09:15 AM

Oh yeah of course.... "The bloob".

I didnt know evil dead was actually scary. I thought it was just funny.

joshaube 10-16-2006 05:14 PM

Evil Dead I & II (moreso II)
House of 1000 Corpses
The Hills Have Eyes 2006
The Descent (if you can get a UK copy)
Re-Animator

AND I DEFINATELY RECCOMEND THE BLOB (1988)!! Great fun!

The_Return 10-16-2006 05:19 PM

In the Mouth of Madness
Phantom of the Opera ('89 version, with Robert Englund)

evildemontoo 10-16-2006 06:06 PM

I'm showing a couple of old movies as a mood setter for my party, just as a background, or if anyone wants to watch of course!

House on Haunted Hill (original)
Night of the Living Dead (orginal)

swiss tony 10-17-2006 07:24 AM

if your parties are anything like mine then there won't be too much focus on the movie. i'd just pick something with lots of action that makes for good background noise eg. T.C.M., fri 13th, hellraiser2

I totally agree.

BloodRedFlower 10-17-2006 08:50 AM

Hmm a movie for a party... that's hard. If you guys are actually going to sit down and WATCH the movie and you want to be scared shitless, watch The Ring. But if you want to party and still have some scares without having to focus too much on the screen, maybe something like House of 1000 Corpses.. it has that "party" feel to it. ^^

PhilnEdee 10-17-2006 08:53 AM

Army of Darkness...what about the part where he says "Whats that on your face?" then throws the dirt on the head!!! Priceless!

If its an adult party...start out with BnW horror...then after some drinks have flowed, sneak in like some midget porn!
