anyone know this guy ?
My wife called all excited like that a certain person from a certain band she always loved was doing a book signing tonight - so we all hopped in the car and hustled downtown.
got a pic of my wife and kiddo with him, i chatted with him and we got a book and a cd signed. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/urgeok/PICT0058.jpg |
The Police's axeman!
Mighty good looking wife you got there :p |
boggles the mind doesnt it :)
|
It sure does dude.
.....you must be filthy rich or something. Hypnotist perhaps? So was he a decent guy to chat with or a dick? |
Quote:
farthest thing from a dick ever ... he was super nice - took time to chat with everyone as long as they wanted .. seemed extremely down to earth .. especially considering what he did - who he met. he did a reading - passages from his book that described his meeting with the beatles, jimi hendrix, etc ... and no - i'm poor as dirt ! |

aaahh.. so you must compensate for that elsewhere, huh ? :p yes, i did just say that. |

she likes my big album collection. (no lie) |
Oh my God, how awesome!

it certainly wasnt expected .. its weird to meet someone that important (at least musically) without advance warning :) 5:00 my wife calls to say she hears something on the radio of his appearance - 6:30 we're buying the book, 7:00 we're meeting him. christ - i shook andy summers hand ! |
For some unknown reason that I can no longer place my finger on, I always thought urgeok was female. Sorry urge, no offense. I'm not sure why I thought that... ???

Quote:
offence ? thats just funny :p |
Damn urge.....you meet ALL the cool people. Even your wife looks a bit like Lisa Loeb...you're doing allright........for a feminine guy.

i was going to redirect bwind to the festival of fear thread (to see proof that i'm not a gal) but then i saw the pictures were gone ..so here's a link.. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/urgeok/ |
So what DVD is that you are signing urge?

I know when these guests come they get the same old shit shoved at them over and over again so when possible i always try to bring something unique. They seem to appreciate it because they always comment on it. For Carrie Fisher i knew that she tried to distance herself from star wars for a long time .. so i had the distinction of being the only person in the entire convention (there were 30,000 tickets sold) that didnt get her to sign anything from star wars. its the beta slip cover from Under the Rainbow .. a very funny movie she did with Chevy Chase. She truely was suprised and chatted about it for a bit .. very cool. for linda blair (who avoids the excorcist) i brought Repossessed on laserdisc. for Roddy Piper i did bring They Live - but it was a japanese import laserdisc .. he said right out that he'd never seen one before. for Robert Picardo ... i got him to sign a beta origional of Explorers .. which he chatted about as well (you give me a dead format to sign ?) I think he thought it was cool that someone brough Explorers though. i brought Invaders From Mars for Karen Black - but it was a DVD she hadnt seen before and it featured her son on the cover (the little boy in the movie is her son in real life) She wanted the DVD - i didnt think she was going to give it back :) good advice if you get the chance to go to something like this ... it becomes a bit of a conversation piece and it gets the guest talking about something they dont normally get a chance to discuss - and thats usually a far more entheusiastic and animated conversation. like i said - i think they appreciate it ...and its not hard to understand why.. |

wow, you put a lot of thought into it! :p |

well, these things dont happen up here in canada much so i try to make the most of it. its a lot more fun now that i bring my kid because he's getting his pic taken with film stars he doesnt know now - but someday he'll probably get a big kick out of it |

i forgot you were an east coaster !
yeah ... not much .. but you get some good celtic bands there |

I worked with Sam Firstenberg on a small movie a while back, and when I found out about the project I thought, "Hot damn! I'll get him to sign my rare laserdisc of BREAKIN' 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO!" At that time, the movie hadn't come out on DVD yet, and when he saw the disc he just flipped and started talking about the different video releases, about the stereo sound mix, and other geeky things.
I am not an autograph geek...I have collected very very few autographs over the years. But the idea of getting the BREAKIN' 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO signed was too weird. I had to do it. |
You need to move to hollywood. I saw Lance Henricksen at the Bob's Big Boy today and then Ray Harryhausen at the bookstore a couple of blocks away!

i'm definately love the autograph thing at the festival of fear .. but its nore to be able to chat while you have your couple of minutes .. its just so unique (for me) meeting the people who's films i've watched time and time again. a chance to say thanks too ... these guys have provided me with a lot of good times.. |
Quote:
but you wouldnt want to bug them while they're trying to do their thing .. at the cons they appreciate being bugged because its $$$ and/or exposure for them.. |
Actually Harryhausen was doing a signing and I got him and Don Glut to autograph a copy of a documentary DVD called the SciFi Boys.

Quote:
(providing a live soundtrack to The Lost World) Harryhausen was going to introduce the film but he had to cancel ... damn shame. |
Oh yes. For Harryhausen I will make an exception, and I did, actually, a few months ago.
I had never had a chance to meet him, and wanted to after all this time, so I went down to where one of the things was happening. It was a thrill because his hands did all that animation for most of his films...he didn't bring in assistant animators, really, until the later films. So when I look at his signature I think, wow. |
