What's everyone's favorite slasher?
I mean discounting the givens. That means no Nightmare, Freddy, or Scream. So whatta you guys think? I go for Deep Red, but it doesn't really feel like a slasher without teens, so my second pick is....SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE!!!! Yes, I know it's cheesy, hell yeah that girl eats a dead guy's pizza, but you just gotta love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maniac.

No Such Thing
Don't like slashers. They ain't scary. They don't make sense. The characters have to do stupid things in order to give the slasher the opportunity to slash. No slasher movie really needs to be more than about 10 minutes long.
They can be fun to watch when you are sitting up alone late at night and just want to get a good laugh in before you watch something that IS really scary, though. |
that maybe, but slasher films reached their popularity peak in the 80's. Most of them, contain horrible acting, and unbelievable plot devices...but who cares, when you see some stupid sex-crazed teenage hacked to death, just when he/she is trying to get laid!
|
I care, when I'm spending 8 or 10 bucks just to see that "sex-crazed teen" trying to get laid and getting hacked instead. That's a pretty poor substitute for a REAL sex life. Put me in the sack with a sex-crazed teen, and I guarantee she won't get hacked... I'll take care of that craze for her though! By the time I get through jumping up and down in that...well, I won't go there. Still, I don't need to pay for that kind of fantasy.
I want to be transported to another reality, where ghosts, demons, evil aliens or some other malevolent force exists. I want to be SCARED, and it's worth my money if I have to sleep with a light on because my imagination won't let go of the the idea that the horror movie I just watched just might actually be real, and what will I do when the creature comes lurching around the corner and I have nowhere to go? I don't want to see adolescent sex interrupted by some nutcase in a mask with a knife or something similar. That just doesn't scare. |

sure they aren't scary, but they can still be entertaining. Halloween for instance is a great film, which could be classified as a slasher film. But i do agree with you that most just aren't scary...i just enjoy watching people get hacked to death..even if it is with a boring kitchen knife or a meat cleaver. and yeah it would be interesting to see some maniac go after a 5th grader with a cheese grater...hey that rhymed :)
