Awesome Movie Soundtracks

I'll start this one off with the new "Miami Vice" ST.
Excellent mixture of styles, new and old stuff...a few remakes that are pretty well done (despite Phil Collins greatness, I'm really liking the "nonpoint" cover of "in the air tonight), and additional musical score tracks are pretty good too.
Haven't yet seen the movie, but this here soundtrack is near perfect IMO. Well worth checking out.

So, what are some great movie soundtracks from the past and present?

newb 08-16-2006 08:18 AM

The Crow

Forrest Gump

Devils Rejects

Despare 08-16-2006 08:21 AM

Clerks, Devil's Rejects, O Brother Where Art Though?, S.F.W., Dazed and Confused, Rock and Roll Highschool, and I liked the Stigmata soundtrack too. Countless others would be on my list...

Phalanx 08-16-2006 08:25 AM

Addition: The Saint, Unleashed, Transporter (both are pretty solid)

urgeok 08-16-2006 08:35 AM

return of the living dead, repo man,

there are a lot of soundtracks i have that have only one decent song on them ..

I know what you did last summer (or the sequel?) has 'Hush' which i like

I love the big concert song from School of Rock

10 things i hate about you has a couple of great covers by Letters to cleo

Shallow Grave is a great soundtrack..

Danny Boyle is a director - as is Michael Mann - who have a great ear for music - and what will marry perfectly with their films ..

Yup, the first one, the song wasd a cover by KulaShaker, I liked it too. The rest of the soundtrack, not great.

urgeok 08-17-2006 08:49 AM

the problem with a lot of 'various artist' soundtracks is that they sometimes mix genres of music so badly ..

a couple of cools songs and the rest - bublegum crap..

nothing that would please any one person

Despare 08-17-2006 02:39 PM

I get a lot of interesting songs and covers on soundtracks I couldn't/wouldn't get otherwise. I remember the Ready to Rumble soundtrack had Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa doing Hit Me Baby One More Time... love that tune.

Elvis_Christ 08-17-2006 05:24 PM

Suprised no one's mentioned The Big Chill. I was listening to that soundtrack long before I saw the movie.

Judgment Night was a good one aswell. Various couplings of Rap with Metal/Alternative bands. The Mudhoney song was really rad.
Sonic Youth with Cypress Hill is a dope track strangley enough about smoking dope :D

I like soundtracks with unreleased material from great bands but these days its cutting room floor shit.

The Over The Edge soundtrack (must find a copy of that flick too) is decent Ramones, Cheap Trick, ect.

big chill soundtrack got overplayed all to hell .. weddings, stc .. but yep it has a lot of depth..

i like the judgement night soundtrack too .. cool concept .

thats been done on another movie (not rap/metal ... but another odd coupling for every track) it;ll bug me til i think of it ..

it may have been techno + "whoever"

Phalanx 08-17-2006 08:56 PM

Rammstein and Static X have made a few soundtracks...you'd consider them "dance metal/tech metal"?
That probably doesn't help much.
Agreed on the Big Chill soundtrack, overplayed as all fuck, shit, I've never even seen the movie.

Spawn?

I really liked the Natural Born Killers and Lost Highway soundtracks when they came out.

Phalanx 08-20-2006 07:50 PM

Just watching "demons/demoni 2", seems a pretty good soundtrack/musical score.

I have to agree with Resident Evil's Marilyn Manson tracks
End of days has a decent one IMO
One of my all time favorites is The Terminator theme, I actually have that on my MP3 player, and listen to regularly.

Vodstok 08-21-2006 08:16 AM

one i used to listen to all the time at work was Chris Vrenna's score for American McGee's Alice. Good moody music.

Roderick Usher 08-23-2006 08:44 PM

Score - PLanet of the Apes, the Good the Bad and the Ugly, Friday Night Lights

Soundtrack - Repo Man, Oh Brother Where art Thou?, Cry Baby, Blues Brothers

urgeok 08-24-2006 05:48 AM

the Buckaroo Banzai theme

Phalanx 08-24-2006 10:18 PM

...more coming...

Phalanx 09-06-2006 02:15 AM

Just heard a track that made me remember this one...
The soundtrack and musical scoring/narrated interludes of the first TMNT movie was really well done...some of the music is a little dated now, but it worked alongside the movie, and as an independant soundtrack I liked it too.

The_Return 09-06-2006 03:10 AM

Tommy!

Admittedly it WAS based on an album....but still. Doesnt get much better than that.

punk666 09-06-2006 03:16 AM

tommy as in the who?

dont know if its been mentioned but queen of the damned have some good songs on.

Roderick Usher 09-06-2006 08:11 AM

The upcoming "nightmare Befroe Christmas" double album sounds promising.

It is the straight soundtrack on one disc and the second disc is all covers. Maralyn Manson is covering "This is Halloween"

Can't you just hear it?

that does sound good .. i wonder who else is on the cover disc ?

Roderick Usher 09-06-2006 12:17 PM

From FANGORIA.COM

Manson’s own version of the raucous opening track “This is Halloween” will appear on the special-edition soundtrack, as will additional covers by such bands as Fall Out Boy (performing “What’s This?”), Panic! at the Disco (delivering their own take on “This is Halloween”) and She Wants Revenge (performing “Kidnap the Sandy Claws”), with songstress Fiona Apple contributing a cover of “Sally’s Song.”

Elvis_Christ 09-06-2006 05:38 PM
