Halloween II

The Flayed One 08-14-2006 04:46 AM

*waits for obligatory Halloween III comments so he can go postal*

The_Return 08-14-2006 07:27 AM

Ive actually only seen the first 2....I think I have to go with the second, but just barely.

Havent seen either in a long while, will need to re-watch soon.

Vodstok 08-14-2006 07:30 AM

2. great follow up to the first one, and really, i think the 2 should be viewed in order, together.

# was okay, the fucking silver shamrock commercial make sme want to commit crimes...

it was a bad, but enjoyable movie. And as has been pointed out many a time here, it was never intended to be a sequal, but part of a story series. The halloweens originally were apparently going ot be a theatrical tales from the crypt, with each one being a sepreate story.

So calm down, deep, easy breaths. Its okay for someone to not hate it.

Halloween II

I've only really seen the first two and bits of pieces I didn't like from the sequels.

Spoorloos 08-14-2006 11:23 AM

halloween 2 is my favorite. halloween 3 was great though

I voted Halloween II, but Halloween is in a close second, with Halloween 4 in third.

Zero 08-14-2006 12:57 PM

I didn't think it was so bad. Wasn't what I expected, but a decent movie overall.

My favourite is Halloween II.

If you like Halloween you might like this:

Basically a rip off.... but whatever there's some great moments that would appeal to fans of the Halloween series.
Shit its better than watching that one with Busta Rhymes in it.

makemebad 08-14-2006 08:36 PM

My one friend says he loves horror and loves holloween

but his favorite is Holloween 8 and he doesn't like the first few

The opening of 8 is killer but it just turns to shit after that. Easily the worst of the series. But different strokes n all :)

tarcher80 08-15-2006 12:47 PM

halloween, w/ 2 nipping at it's heels (love the hospital setting)

Jameslofton 08-16-2006 03:24 AM

I have to give major kudos to the first one, but I went with Halloween 4. Its a brilliant sequel. Getting out of the hospital, going after his niece, etc. Great plot, good performances by everyone in the film. In my opinion, the series shouldve ended with this one. It just went downhill from there.

Who voted for 6?? Damn, that is one of the worst films I've ever seen. Poorly put together, crappy plot, etc. To me its almost like an unfinished film that they decided to release anyways.

Suspiria 666 08-26-2006 06:55 AM

Halloween 2 all the way! One of the best slashers ever

That movie was a whole lot like it. That's all I could really think about while watching it. It wasn't a bad movie, but knock-off's are just that, and they will never dominate the original.

Burning in Hell 08-29-2006 09:10 AM

I have to go with Halloween, without a doubt.

That said, I enjoy most of the others as well, except Season of the Witch (aka Halloween 3). In my opinion, the Halloween franchise is easily the best of all the "2 sequels is not enough" horror franchises :D

Feel Free to call me wierd. I love Number 6 because it brought Tommy Doyle back into the story line. I wish that they would find a way to cruve back into the orignial story.

Deposable 09-06-2006 01:53 PM

I'm the only one that doesn't have a favorite.

crabapple 09-08-2006 10:08 AM

Okay, HALLOWEEN experts--come forth.

Okay. I asked this question before and I was referred to several DVD geek sites because they supposedly knew. But they don't know, so I'm asking again.

About, oh, seven or eight years ago, there was a Newly Remixed HALLOWEEN in Dolby Surround etc. released on VHS. Maybe you remember it. I think it was also THX. Alan Howarth, a really amazing music and sound guy, did a complete remix on the film. BUT! But................

He also re-performed and rerecorded all the music and added new orchestrations that made the theme music sound more like that in HALLOWEEN II. He also changed some of the stings, beefed up the gunshot sound effects, added heavier thunderclaps, new cricket effects, and so on. In other words, he changed the sound elements completely. From top to bottom.

Sounds really nice. But it's not the original.

So here's the question: Do the most recent "HALLOWEEN" DVDs feature this newly redone soundtrack with new elements...or do they feature a stereo remixed soundtrack featuring only the ORIGINAL sound elements as we heard them in 1978?

The original theme music for example was very simple, primitive, even, and that to me was why it worked.

I don't wanna buy or even rent any DVDs till I find this out.

Okay, geeks! Show me some stuff!

Roderick Usher 09-08-2006 10:13 AM

I have the 25th Anniversary Edition with 5.1 dolby surround sound and in Divimax - supposedly the best video transfer process there is.

The music is the original John Carpenter score and the extras are great.

A must for any collector

crabapple 09-08-2006 10:48 AM

I'm gonna rent it and give it a good listen. More geek comments please! Come on you squids.

urgeok 09-08-2006 11:40 AM

mine are the 2 versions of the Criterion laserdiscs (single disc and double disc) how do they fare ?

crabapple 09-08-2006 12:04 PM

As far as I know, the Criterion laserdiscs feature monaural sound (the original theatrical mono). All that audio is original. Criterion is pretty well known for "keeping it pure" and not allowing people to contribute, say, "new" elements to classic films.

In 1998, Anchor Bay put out a 2-tape VHS version (this is the one I have) which features all the original dialogue, music and sound effects, but remixed and stereo. It's the only stereo/surround version that I know for sure has only the original sound elements.

I figured I posted enough cute animal threads, so it's time to post a really pathetic geek thread, you see.

horrorobsessed 09-08-2006 07:27 PM

since i'm lame like this i don't have Halloween on dvd, i have cash flow problems until i get a real job.:(

but i do have two copies of it on vhs. original music and everything.

on the geek note though, every time i hear the music i freak, and today i was lucky enough to hear one of my friends who plays a mean piano play the shit out of the theme song. she's awesome. yeah, i also have a Michael Myers mask, poster, a t-shirt with him on it, and all of the movies. i'm such a dork when it comes to these movies that when my sister got me the Michael Myers mask for my 12th birthday i cried i was so happy.

I second that. It just might be the most extras-loaded 2-discer ever.

tarcher80 09-11-2006 07:41 AM

that's a great avatar deposable. it made me laugh out loud, even though i don't quite agree w/ you.
