A friend of mine has a lil kid that was having a birthday party, Me trying to be a nice guy hired a local party companies clown for the party, thinkin I would score some cool points with the kids and Mom. ;) Little did I know that that movie made her petrified of clowns, she answered the door and ran like a bat out of hell down the hall right out the back door, I thought it was a lil over dramatic, but fear is fear I suppose.

From what I gather that movie has caused ALOT of people to fear clowns.

alright 3 words "READ THE BOOK" the movie has NOTHING to do with the book and every encounter they have with Pennywise is censored beyond Belief. Anyone who has read the book knows what im talking about. I liked the movie alot (no one does pennywise better than Tim Curry) but i read the book and the whole movie was watered down beyond Belief, its really sad. Truly a great story tho

Hey arioch, I totally agree with you, man...
I've read the book, and overall, well, apart from the fact that King likes to take about three or four pages to describe a room, and referrs endlessly back to the prologue, as he does....the book was great. Totally different, and all I can say is how much I hope that one day I will witness a true movie adaptation, even if it IS five hours long.
The story in the book, for all of you who were even just a little scared by the movie, is faaaaar more scary, the character interaction and relationships are better explained, and the overall story a much more rewarding...if you haven't already, trust me and arioch on this one, READ THE DAMN BOOK, FOOL!:cool:

Eddie in the shower?- CENSORED in the book its a hobo/leper/clown that offers eddie a blowjob for free.

Ben with the lake and his dad?-CENSORED it was a vampire in the library that looked old and ancient, but when it opened its mouth it was filled with Gillette razor blades set at every which angle. Then it screamed "keeeerunch!!" and chomped down and the razors shedded the vampires face and chunks of it fell down onto the people below, who of course couldnt see it (becuase they dont believe)

Beverly in her old house? - CENSORED it turns into the witch from Hansle and Gretyl (because thats the witch that eats kids) and the WHOLE house turns to candy. Then the witch chases her out into the street where it turns into HER DAD who then screems "i beat you because i wanted you bevy, i wanted to suck your clit and eat you ALL UP!!!!:eek: :eek: :eek:

if you think thats bad you should read the rest of the book, i swear it makes the movie look so weak. THE WHOLE BOOK IS THIS BAD so a disclaimer here for anyone with a weak stomach or who is offended by the above quotes.

I did love this movie but the spider at the end suck!! very CHEESEY!!

I'm quite suprised none you guys who read the book mentioned what It was in the book compared to the movie, because in the movie, you never get to see his true form. (I guess it would have taken too much money for the special effects, since it would need to be a really big thing. And i don't know if the technology back then would even make it worth it.)

On screen the guy has 3 forms: Pennywise the clown, all the other monster/creatuse/killer beasts and finally the spider. While in the book, he has four. The fourth is his real one. It is anything but a typical horror slobbery-drooly-sharpteethed-childreneting snarling beast (actually, it's not a beast at all. Not even a "monster") but still awe inspiring. In other words, you still drop you jaw when you imagine it... because it is B-I-G! :D

And one more thing... i can't imagine anyone would even consider putting anything like that in any mainstream movie at all... the movie drops one of the most bizzare and big moralist hairraising scenes that were ever written by king in any of his books. It makes you kinda wonder what kinda bad shit the guy was on when writing that chapter. (yes, for the bookworms, the scene when the kids lose their way when searching for a way out of the sewers)

And no, i won't tell what it is. And not what It looks like on the outside for real either :) Go read the book instead, you won't regret it.

The book is sensational. IT takes on the fears of its victims, right. However, you're never really told why IT would take on the guise of a clown....I was thinking that maybe King is afraid of clowns, so, the reaccuring clown is a symbol of the author's fear.

The movie was pretty cool. The actors that they chose to play the characters were right on point. ABC is making Desperation into a movie pretty soon. For those that aren't horror novel buffs, that's another book by King (originally published as The Regulators).

your completely right corn dude. I wasnt gonna mention the true nature of it and "the dead light" because it really does blow your mind to think about it. I dont think it could ever be put on screen, since its just so abstract i mean how could you possibly show it right?

I totally thought that Desperation and The Regulators were the same book. Oops. Do you know why I'd think that? I mean, are there any similarities? I didn't get into King until a few years ago, so I've read a ton, but not all. (LOVE THE DARK TOWER SERIES.)

LOL. You're not a jackass. King wrote The Regulators as Richard Bachman. And I know why you thought they would be the same book: The both use the same character names. If I remember correctly, those who were evil in Desperation were the good guys in The Regulators. Something like that. Which I think is a cool idea.

I was thinking about the dark tower series myself, I have the 2nd one so far, but not the first, and I have this thing where I can't read 2 before 1, or 3 before 2...etc, is the series any good? seems a bit more "adventure" than standard king books...

I would say more fantasy, but definitely different than the usual King stuff. And DON'T read 2 before 1. It won't even make sense.

You could put the dead lights on screen with today's effects in all it's size and glory... after all, you do get a pretty accurate description of it from the book... and it's really very simple in it's form, just unimainably high and wide... and if it wasn't for the movie's serious ways but still kiddish philosophies to drag it down, you could make it cult without a doubt. Or maybe you could even with that.

I don't remember that turtle much... if i remember correctly, he dies on choking in his own farts, or that is at least how It jokes...

That is so true. These books really sort of follow the Beam, and if you miss the Beam....you won't get to the Dark Tower, as a matter of fact, you'll end up in the Thinny. I do encourage reading them, though. They are indeed fantasy, but there are some really creepy parts.

I love the lobster-monsters in the first books.

I HATE the lobster monsters. I was so PISSED off when they took Roland's fingers. I mean, he's a gunslinger...and they took his fingers. Still makes me sad. I'm still on the third book.
