The Omega Man

How many people remember this movie?
I'm a big Charleton Heston fan especially if its
sci-fi or horror.

This movie was loosely based on a Richard Matheson
story called I Am Legend.
King has a writing style much like Matheson, and
he was one of King's biggest influences.

Highly recommend the book.
Different take on the traditional vampire yarn.

My dad talks about this movie a lot, but I've yet to see it.

The Omega Man rocked. The mutated people were creepy.

Charlton 'Guns... Lots of Guns' Heston is good in this one, and the creeps who come out at night are truly ugly creatures.

Great aim with the spear at the end.

simpsons again ?

Yep. there is almost no facet of pop culture that hasnt been spoofed at some point on that show.

Of course after 17 seasons, they would have to or they would run out of material.

That's for sure, and a very underrated actor from the 70's.

This is by far, my favorite filmed version of the story. Heston was tailor made for this, and I think he probably fulfilled every male fantasy in it. It ranks up there with his performance in PoA, easily.

He didn't even have a catch phrase in it. WOW

Are you sure....I thought he said "I'll stick around" at the end.

Not even in the same ballpark with "Take your stinking paws off of me, you damn dirty apes!" and "You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"

Phalanx 10-26-2008 05:56 PM

Yeah, I'd never heard of this film when I saw it, at about age...14?
Very good, and was actually scary...or at least, was at the time.
I haven't ever watched it again ,but I'd love to grab it on dvd at some point.

ManchestrMorgue 10-27-2008 02:27 AM

It's a great film, and has a nice 70's vibe to it as well.

Infinitely superior to the recent I am Legend.

AttilaJ 10-28-2008 03:00 PM

I recently watched The Omega Man. Prior to that it's been about 15 years since I've watched it but I enjoyed it again, however it just didn't hold up as well I was hoping it would have, maybe because of the weak acting of the kids and some of the other supporting cast. Zerbe was great though and Heston was pretty solid.

I followed The Omega Man with a viewing of "Soylent Green" and it was tremendous. This one held up and is still very relevant. One of Edward G. Robinson's best performances.
