Clooney in "Pet Sematary" remake

Clooney Confirmed for Pet Sematary Redo?
Source: Bloody-Disgusting
August 1, 2006

Back in early 2004 it was rumored that George Clooney would play Doc Cage in a remake of Pet Sematary, and now Bloody-Disgusting says it is indeed happening.

That same year, news was released that Paramount Pictures had hired horror specialist Dave Kajganich to write the Alphaville project. The Face/Off scripting team of Mike Werb and Michael Colleary wrote the first draft.

Pet Sematary is based on Stephen King's story of a family moving to a small Maine town with a pet cemetery and an Indian burial ground.

Oh, wow.

makemebad 08-01-2006 09:51 PM

hrmmmmmmmm

ZombieChick13 08-02-2006 03:02 AM

They can't remake it! Grrr! and George Clooney is a terrible choice.

hammerfan 08-02-2006 04:11 AM

As much as I love George Clooney, I can't see him doing this film.

i think because of your reasons - this might be a film actually worth remaking ..

if only they could recapture that stark, bleak style of '70s horror filmmaking...

Vodstok 08-11-2006 06:32 AM

I thought Pet Semetary sucked, so i wouldnt mind this... Clooney rocks, and when he doesnt, he jokes about how bad he was, so he rocks.

urgeok 08-11-2006 06:39 AM

Clooney is solid .. this guy couldnt deliver a bad line if he tried .. he has the look and more imprtantly - the voice ..

he's basically the new Gene Hackman or Michael Caine ... 2 other guys who make acting look effortless..

Vodstok 08-11-2006 08:11 AM

I knew clooney was godlike when i saw him in an interview talking about Batman and Robin and he said "The batman movies were a great series, until I came along and killed it." THAT is humility.

and its not like he killed it either ...
he was the only good thing about it ..

i'd like to have seen him do it with a better director with a different vision ..

he'd be able to play it on the darker side ..

The_Return 08-11-2006 08:57 AM

Not having bothered to see the original, and only goung by the book, I think Clooney is perfect for this role. A bit old perhaps, but Im sure he'll be great.

hammerfan 08-11-2006 08:58 AM

OK, I have to ask Vod and urge this question:

What did you think of Clooney's portrayal of Seth Gecko in "From Dusk Til Dawn"?

Interesting. And I say that only because I've seen most people here at HDC knock down From Dusk Til Dawn (it sucks, etc.). I was beginning to think I was the only person on the planet that liked the movie. I also thought Tarantino was creepy.

i love the movie - always have.

a lot of people dont like it because of the twist from crime thriller to vampire flick ..

i thought it was a ton of fun.

Vodstok 08-11-2006 09:39 AM

I htought it was tarantino-esque style-over substance bullshit.

But im just picky ;)

From Dusk till Dawn was mindless entertainment...but I liked it a lot.

phantomstranger 08-11-2006 12:29 PM

if only they captured that style in pet sem.................................. and im knocking the remake like i normally do..... but i'll still watch it and i'll no doubt think it is better than the original because 'the hazing' was a better watch than pet sem.

it aint hard to make a better movie than pet sem FULL STOP

Spoorloos 08-12-2006 04:41 PM

Clooney is pretty good but they should have went with the original first choice of Bruce Campbell

dabruce16 08-13-2006 01:42 PM

i heard that clooney isn't in the pet cemetary remake any more. i heard it was all just a bunch of speculation that was wrong.

CrimsonFiend138 08-20-2006 12:07 PM

I wouldn't doubt it.

I wonder how they would do Zelda, She always gave me fuckin' gooooooosebumps!!

tarcher80 08-21-2006 07:59 AM

personally i think this is stupid b/c there is a sequel to pet cemetary. not to push this thread in another direction, but there should be rules in place when "remaking" a horror classic and the first one should be that you cannot remake the original if there has been a sequel(s).

i know that the studio would push for a remake of the orginal b/c getting an "A" lister like clooney would not look good under the title: Pet Cemetary 3 (that's a job for someone like Eric Roberts) . but still, the above mentioned rule should exist.

Where is my "Apt Analogies for dumies..."?

Oh, here we go:

Why eat "Krab" when nice big natural King Crab legs are so much better and more staisfying?

???

any partial success of a remake ensures the sequels will be remade as well..

i don't think you're getting what i'm saying... or maybe you are?

what i'm opposed to is that the studio is remaking the original movie w/ the original plot and characters, after there had been a sequel. if there was no pet cemetery 2 then i would be fine w/ a remake of the original, but b/c there was a sequel i feel the studio should a) make pet cemetery 3 (w/ out clooney) or b) make something like return to pet cemetery (w/ clooney), both having a newly written script.

take the friday the 13th series: no more sequels, please! what would work better is if someone remade the original. pet cemetery only had one sequel (which was a decent flick). i don't think the studio needs to remake the original w/ only one sequel under their belt.

i know what you're getting at but:

1) there are no rules. Just one .. if it has a chance of making money they'll make the film

2) if the 'remake' is different from the origional, they'll still do a sequel with another origional plot line that suits the 1st remake.\

3) the only way films wont get made is if people stop supporting the trend. So far - people are seeing these films ...

Remember - the name is there - in the pop culture concious / subconcious.

even if young people havent seen the origional omen/amityville/etc etc ... the name is already out there .. it is something familiar.
I thionk thats a strong selling feature.. sort of a built in audience.

you're almost there, but not quite...

i'm not against sequels or remakes. i understand that if business dictates a need for another pet cemetery, so be it. and i will pray that there is good plot/casting/directing. it just annoys me that the studio (in this case and in many others) is already going back to the original w/ out trying to progress the series into a 3rd instalment or create an original (shit, we've used this word a lot!) script. no one wants to create anything new these days. i guess that partly has to do w/ the large drop in theatre attendance, but a lot of that is made up in dvd sales. it's frustrating.

we're pretty much on the same page here.

PR3SSUR3 08-21-2006 03:04 PM

w/at w/ld w/e do w/out remakes b/c I'd really like to kn/w.
